Couldn’t agree more that precision is vital. I practice on a lonely country road that’s pretty narrow with ditches on either side. I first just line it up in landing configuration then touch down and quickly fly away; after that I add longer rolls on the main gear then finally full stop landings. Makes all my backcountry landings as easy as at the big airport.

Great watching this! Memories! Last 185 job was ferrying one from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada to Puntarenas, Chile, then flying people to the Vinson Massive and once to the South Pole to pick up a couple of our guides from our base at 80S/81W….600nm of barren ice/
    snow….nothing else….still scares me….

Was looking forward to this video. Unfortunately Lee’s audio was difficult to hear instructions. Will watch again several times to try and pick up more conversation. 54 180 owner here. Thank you

Roy, I’m honing my CFI skills at your expense. Thank you!

We used to teach a tail low wheel landing as an everyday all day working landing for Ag pilots . A little bit more speed for safety and less stress when doing many landings a day….

Hard to do either one now we have done so many intermediate ones.

Curious about the crabbing tendency…never ran into that up north…my first CFI check ride was in a Citabria ( examiner had more fun than I did)…used to teach people to scan near middle and distance on landing rather than focusing on any one spot….rivets as sight line is essential but keep scanning….and if you have 20kt Xwind , and the runway is covered in ice with water on top….yahoooo!!! Welcome to Alaska!

Does Lee operate out of Indiana? Or just came to visit? Does C62 have a grass runway or just mow a section down besides the runway?
We fly out of Huntington, IN and learned to fly a Luscome out of Kendallville. We are building a Bearhawk and it’s been 6 years since I had tailwheel time.

Last I knew, Lee was based in northern Indiana. He usually has a current flight instruction ad running on the Skywagon forum. How close is your Bearhawk to being ready to fly? 🍻
