As the son of Haitian immigrants, I was born here in the US. In the '80s, growing up in Miami, I remember when being Haitian was a dirty word going to school, so this left me never to explore who I really was. In my 20's I began to absorb everything it meant to be Haitian and learned about our History. In the last 15 years, I have done the same with Africa, and I have come to learn a lot about my identity as an African. Before I saw this clip today, I have come to my own conclusion that Haiti's hope and future rest with Haiti being part of the African Union. The way I looked at it, a part of Pan-Africa went out and against all odds won new land for Africa. It has truly saddened me today to see, the people I most Identify with, in the AU make me feel like I did as a kid in the '80s. We all must protest to the AU and let them know we are FAMILY!
I understand you very well as a Haitian myself. Africa is crying for diasporas who can invest in Africa, but hell to the rest. I can feel the pain you encountered while you grew up. But understand that everything the world rejects is the one to embrace yourselves. Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Shalom, son!
My dear Haitian brother/sister, hold on tight. We in Africa consider you all as our brothers/sisters & our blood cos that's what we are. The present, older generation of 'leaders' in most African countries today are a big problem to even Africans on the continent. Their views on things are mostly different & warped compared to views of Africans 45 years & younger. One thing a whole lot of younger Africans are gladly doing these days is accepting & encouraging pan-Africanism (I'm sure you can also see the support for Haiti from Africans in the comments). Sooner than later, we would all be a people who intentionally unite for the better of our race & its future generations.

We will try again. This is important for Haiti and africa. This is especially important for African entrepreneurs who’s looking to get into the North American market. When Haiti gets fixed only Africans can visit and enjoy our mountains & beaches.
I feel really sad about what has happened to Haiti over the years. The line that made me a bit mad was the fact that Haiti had to pay back money as "Compensation for lost revenue from Slavery" how can you enslave people and when they fight for independence, you make them pay the money you would have made from their free labor. It's very appalling and reprehensible that France did that. I really hope the AU reconsiders their decision and do accept Haiti.
Haiti has played a main role in stopping colonisation. I can relate that the majority of the population always recognized that their ancestors who were slaves, came from Africa most likely Senegal, Nigeria, Mali, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana and Benin. Toussaint Louverture, a haitian independance hero was the grandson of the king of Dahomey (Benin). Haiti was the first and only nation to stand against the previous world order that never accepted us Black people as human beings. There is a great haitian author :Antenor Firmin who wrote : "De l'égalité des races humaines " in which he defended that Black people Can think and conclude that we are all equals. So before we had Senghor, Césaire there are plenty good Haitian authors who took position against slavery or initiate panafricanism. That's why before and after the independance of many African countries in 1960's , there were a lot of Haitian teachers, professors, diplomats, engineers, psychologists, sociologists who left Haïti to contribute to the formation of many African. They were in Côte d'Ivoire, most likely countries that speak french. I think that Haiti deserved better than this No answer. Haiti and Cuba helped a lot of African countries economically, financially. You can't understand Africa if you don't know and experience Haiti. You can't understand Haitian people if you don't know and experience Africa in its roots. That's why wherever you find a Haitian even if they never go back to their Land but they got Haïti in their heart and they can't understand that connection. It was a sad decision made by African Union. However it's never too late to fix . We are confident that Africa will play its part in Haiti 's future ( vice versa). Haitian culture is probably the second most diversified culture in the world. You should listen to Haitian music, eat their food , dance with them and you will see Most importantly , nations have interests but no friends maybe that's why they refused the integration of Haiti. But the thing is that we black people we refuse to be united ! I hope one day Africa will make the right decision
Stopping colonisation ? More than that, Haïti help Simon Bolivar to liberate the Venezuela and by the way, put the Idea in slaves heads that it was possible to get rid of oppressors. Also, during WW2, Jews were granted of asilum, while Canada and USA refused Them, returning Them toward the death.

I’ve spoken to a decent amount of African people and a lot of them, even formally educated, never even heard of Haiti. My brother actually visited Kenya and they never even heard of Haiti either. It’s kind of sad to see us not being recognized even though it’s not our fault.
The average East African is not concerned with or abreast with West Africa and its related history so expecting East Africans to know about Haiti in any significant way, is unrealistic
Haitian are from Africa. Haitian diserve respect and consideration, those who are saying that Haiti is not part of Africa must be out their minds... As an African i will remain with my Haitians brothers and sisters... May my Africans ancestors protect our Haitians people... Haiti must be part of African union one love
I have always been fascinated by Haiti and it's history. Naturally after knowing the the USA was the first nation to become independent, I needed to know the second. Haiti, although the second nation to become independent, is the first and only nation to be founded by a successful slave revolt. I have always defined Haiti as the Africa of the western hemisphere. To me it has been appalling to see so near to the coast of America endure the most impoverished conditions from famine, war disease, malnutrition and corruption. They were forced to pay 100 year compensation to the French after a revolution that left the nation in ruin. (Imagine if after the war of 1812, the US had to pay Britain for all the damages of the American Revolution) Experienced prejudice from their neighbor the Dominican Republic, and has always been shun from progress and has been a despot for intervention in the latter of the 19th century and 20th by the US, inhibiting their progress and stunting their growth. Now I click on this video and discover my lurking concern that has kept Haiti isolate from interacting with African counterparts. Both racial and cultural have similar experience with colonialism with the French. Haiti is the long lost Ancestor of the experience of French colonialism, that has been kept in the basement as the house of Afro-Francophone nations expands, and suffer the exploitive guardianship of the French, Haiti is able to reach out and share insight towards all African Nations. Haitians we're brought over they did not choose their position but they still love proud. I hope African nations like Guinea, Sierra Leone, and the Gambia who don't use the CFA France currency to see past the Atlantic ocean and unify along with all other African Francophone countries. Despite all of these factors the Haitians proud people. You are the Africa of the western hemisphere, and the forefather of the Franco-African community. To you Risen Africa, keep up the phenomenal work, your keen insight, understanding and effort in your videos help educate the passionate. Long Last... Haiti 🇭🇹🇭🇹
haitians invaded the dominincan republic , haitians supressed spanish language while they occupied the dominican republic and haitian intention was clearly to pay back the french with dominican assets. more so, the dominican republic got to manage properly their resources and find a way to prosper but haiti didn't.
@@1lyxbollyvykn714 Thanks for getting back to me, it is obviously a very contentious issue. Let me just say I mean well, I hope that you understand by any means, I am trying to exclude your perspective on the Dominican Republic. Haiti did occupy the entirety of Hispaniola at one point, Dominicans who share different cultural values and had different experiences with colonialism by their colonizers did not like Haitian encroachment on their territory and some of them as Invaders, who's revolution brought instability. They did not share the same approach with colonial ownership as there was a greater sense of identity and and intersectionality between the Spanish settlers indigenous populations and the African majority. They did not experience cruel brutality under the Spanish as Haiti has under the French. That is absolutely understandable. When I talk about the prejudice by the experience, I am referring to the government of the DR and their treatment of Haitians on their border and in their country. The government applied retroactive policies to ensure all people of Haitian descent were deported. When trade Centers open up along the border it is usually prolonged, and there is mistreatment of Haitians. It is not just as though there's a lack of urgency, but rather a lack of care. And I can authorities often respond in violence and Nur se naturally prone to being skeptical of people with dark skin tone and ostracized people of Haitian descent treating them not as neighbors who share an island, but as a threat. Haitian standouts and are victim of discrimination within the Dominican Republic. This does not mean progress has not been made and aid has never been provided. The Dominican Republic has been an essential help in maintaining Haitian stability. However it is more so they are rather containing the problem, confining it to a race of people the government views as threatening, and sending them as dissonance. They are interested in maintaining their social stability by removing people of Haitian lineage discouraging those with prominent African features from being integrated into the Dominican lifestyle. I know that Dominicans are Creole, Amerindian, are mixed in race and also have African lineage. But the Dominican identity was not centered around African heritage and developed a more closer Latin American identity and are a different people entirely. As you have indicated yourself when stated that Haitian occupation suppressed the Spanish language. The true prejudice in the modern times that towards an already crippled Haitis capacity to care for its own citizens. Is the retroactive policy ensures those of Haitian descent that despite having a standard style of living in The DR are subject to deportation in a country that can't provide for them and that they've never been to. It targets those those with significant African traits and it's meant to marginalize the island of Hispaniola as a whole. I hope that I have been clear and I have specified the prejudice that you may not have seen as a main contributor of Haitis current situation, but has definitely been an inhibitor in establishing close relations to an already impoverished country. - Thanks
To all our Haitians brothers & sisters, hold on tight. We in Africa consider you all as our brothers/sisters & our blood cos that's what we are. The present generation of 'leaders' in most African countries today are a big problem to even us on the continent. Sooner than later, we would all be a people who intentionally unite for the better of our race & its future generations.
Let's just say, IF there is another round to vote Haiti into the African Union (AU) you would need leaders who won't allow outside influence to disregard Haïti
It is a very positive front that the AU abides by its own constitution. Nevertheless, constitutions can and should be amended whenever a critical situation like this occurs. Expanding AU to Haiti is inevitable and will bring much greater and mutual benefits to all. We should not condemn the AU in this case because it is the same constitution that will protect Haiti and the rest of Africa in case of abuse by any country or person. We, therefore, should push for the amendment of the constitution to accommodate Haiti because we must and therefore should.

Common sense tells you they rejected Haiti’s bid because they know we aren’t the same people. It’s not that hard to understand. Sure there was some admixture but a lot of Haitians have always been in the continent from America whether from Louisiana, some coming up from South America, shipped from Mexico to Haiti etc…
It’s documented that Haiti has had a lot of negroes shipped to the island. From Mexico, Florida, Lousiana, Nicaragua, Peru & the Bahamas. That not even counting the Ayisyens who were already there. They try to Africanize us to remove our connection to the land & also to hide the fact that we “black” people are a global people & don’t just come from one continent

For those saying the African Union should include the Caribbean please remember that this would cause direct confrontation with the United States as Africa grows. Superpowers never willingly allow foreign alliances near their border. Just look at Ukraine or Cuba as an example.

I am Haitian. My full name is Kwame Oluwagbotemi Yesuto Nyame (Yoruba, Ewe, Akan names). I have also lived in Cameroon. The enslaved peoples in Haiti didn’t live long, so colonizers brought in more Africans at a higher rate than other areas.
Very well said mate!
You should listen to Haitian music, eat their food , dance with them and you will see
Most importantly , nations have interests but no friends maybe that's why they refused the integration of Haiti. But the thing is that we black people we refuse to be united !
I hope one day Africa will make the right decision

Afrikan Union should allow Haiti to be a full member, they're Afrikans, culturally, ideologically and ancestry. They have suffered long enough and Afrika should be the first to assist them. 🇭🇹

I remember discussing this with an acquaintance from Uganda & she told me Haiti & other Caribbean countries should join. I thought it was almost imperialist as we can't even fix Africa but want to include these Caribbean countries that are far more developed. After studying the world a bit more, I feel they should be allowed to join. Unfortunately, AU gets it's instructions from it's funders which are often from outside Africa. We were sadly forced to extinguish our connections to the continent due to our unfortunate forced indulgences with Western Europeans which I am sure you are aware of and like. The racism in your comment is disgusting. That's why some North Africans don't feel part of Africa. I don't hear white majority countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand trying to join the European Union. I'm African and for me, I want us to primarily focus on strengthening the bond we have with North Africans than other black majority nation in the Caribbean.
@@sabertooth9971 Reread the comment. What people are hungry for is an organization that sets an agenda for all people of Black African descent, all over the world. The AU is not that and was never designed to be that. Semantics, semantics. Yes, you are African by being a citizen of a nation on the landmass. But when people around the world say African they mean Black African. I don't think it's racist to point out the Anti-Black racism of North Africa, it's been documented and experienced.
You are the Africa of the western hemisphere, and the forefather of the Franco-African community.

haitians invaded the dominincan republic , haitians supressed spanish language while they occupied the dominican republic and haitian intention was clearly to pay back the french with dominican assets. more so, the dominican republic got to manage properly their resources and find a way to prosper but haiti didn't.
- Thanks

It is a very positive front that the AU abides by its own constitution. Nevertheless, constitutions can and should be amended whenever a critical situation like this occurs. Expanding AU to Haiti is inevitable and will bring much greater and mutual benefits to all. We should not condemn the AU in this case because it is the same constitution that will protect Haiti and the rest of Africa in case of abuse by any country or person.
