    That leak that you excused was a sign of a sloppy install for a company that won’t let you do your own install. I spent thirty years in RV service and they should not be exclusive on installation and not well enough equipped to have done this.
    Thanks for being honest and showing this.

    Regarding your propane regulator. When the gas lines are empty (from disconnecting the line from the water heater), if you turn the gas on too fast the regulator notes that the gas is filling the lines too fast and thinks there's a leak so it will trip the regulator. Any time you empty your propane lines like that you need to turn the gas on very slowly until the lines are full, then open it the rest of the way. I've had to do this with my outdoor griddle. This 'may' have been your issue, not a faulty regulator. It may have been faulty, but an empty line trip is more likely when the only thing you did was replace the water heater.

      I have my Hot rod heating element set to 140 deg F. I'm able to increase the water pressure by adding more cold water and taking longer showers.

  • @whoofit
    @whoofit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I priced these a couple months ago. Dealer wanted $3700 for it installed retrofit. I did the math and found the payback was at over 300-20lb bottles of propane. As we no longer have a family of 6 trying to get ready for the day it just doesn't make sense for us.
    We just ordered a brand new 5er and took the option to install a 12 gal. gas/elec water heater in place of the Girard or Suburban tankless' because of the cold water sandwich effect from them. That and it will allow us to utilize the heating element in two ways. First, get hot water from the grid and second, dump excess solar into the tank.
    If we had the option for Truma on our build we would have considered it.

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That seem insanely high price, traumas cost installed is around $1300. This unit does not seem to have the problems the girard has and we will get into that in the next video. As for electric utilization on solar or grid that is the biggest drawback for me. The propane use is so much lower tho, I will see if I can calculate how much.

    • @whoofit
      @whoofit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, insanely high price for sure. Truma's dealer network is still developing. It is small. There is only one dealer in our region some 200 miles away. I figure they see a cornered market and are taking advantage of it. I would probably do the retrofit for $1300.

    The complaint I have heard is that the user cannot adjust the temperature of the water stream at the faucet by reducing the hot versus cold water mix, but instead they have to go back to the temperature controller and reduce/increase the temperature setting. They say that if they try to reduce the hot water volume, the water heater senses that and shuts off. They want hotter water doing dishes than they want for a shower. They also say that they have to turn the hot water valve at the point of use on fully instead of letting the hot water dribble out of it for low volume usage. I will be interested in your comments after you have used it for a while!

    • @ejRecording

      have you found a better hopefully more inexpensive alternative sir?

    • @wcarlhepker4806
      @wcarlhepker4806 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After I wrote that, I have heard from others who have installed tankless water heaters. From what I have heard so far, the Truma is the one that has overcome this problem. Some of the other brands will not even come on when the user was using the RV water pump but required a good amount of shore water pressure/flow. What a disappointment that would be. It seems that the Truma is one that has been designed specifically for RV use instead of adapting a home tankless hot water heater to an RV. A less expensive approach would be to use a tank type water heater. There are not too many solutions for immediate on demand hot water.

    All I see are guys ASKING HOW MUCH? and no one is saying the How Much! ... let just say it Truma and that says it all! ... Way over priced plus the installation cost by them,... coz they think that we are completely incompetent of fitting there system! .... move along people! Look for other tankless water heaters that are far better or just as good as this! For far less money!

    Wow looks like a delaminated sidewall is in your future. NEVER EVER EVER use silicon on an RV for any reason! butyl tape, polyurethane, dicor anything but silicon

      ? Why, for an application like this it should work great, I have it all around my windows and 4 years without any problems,

      Watch this. th-cam.com/video/C7LIW1Mwpds/w-d-xo.html start at 9:00 minute mark. There are numerous marine channels also that absolutely forbid any type of silicone. The number one issue is silicone is waterproof everyone agrees, however it has ZERO bonding adhesive and will not stick to any surface especially fiberglass. basically water will run right past it as it will not stick to anything. dicor isn't much better, and there are a few other videos with new manufacturers using a robotic polyurethane machine to bond windows. Also all windshields use the polyurethane and do not leak never would you want silicone to bond a windshield it would fall out instantly not to mention leak water.
      Awesome heater tho do you get any water loss, lag waiting for it to heat up in the shower? i know the tank ones have some lag but would be interested if its any longer for the truma to heat up. I boondock exclusively and water is precious on an rv. Also love your lithium install my next batteries are certainly gonna be lithium for every reason you described.

      Silicone is no good and I regret using it on my RV. Take a look at Sikaflex products.

      Yup Sika is my new standard for rv's 1a is preferred but i have used some of their others as well GREAT product. The really great part its cost is half or less of "rv" specific or "marine" specific labeling not to mention the 20-50 year life expectancy unlike silicone's 1-3 year if your lucky. Even dicor is recommended to be checked on every 1-3 years to look at cracking which it does when the sun beats on it.

      Hi Brian, I am curious to know why you don't like them? We have had ours a year now and it been amazing.

      @@MortonsontheMove ....i am a certified rv tech for almost 20 years. Ive installed these before. The majority of these that i have installed have always given me issues. And the customer service has been a pain. Thats just my experience. You obviously have a good one that has lasted.

      I would be interested in taking this feedback back to Truma, could you specify what problems you have had?
