Lars is a really nice man. People like to shit on him because he's gained some fame but he knows his shit. He's a loyal, good hearted dude who plays music for a living. I cant understand why people love to hate people who have had some sucess. Its not like he's some millionair playboy that treats people like shit. He talks to all his fans and is nice to people. Thats cool to me.
I have a few times. Nice little story...he was signing some autographs at Warped and I asked him how Matt Freeman was doing. He was currently having health issues. Lars stopped what he was doing, looked over and seemed honestly touched someone would ask about his bandmate. A few years earlier I was backstage and my friend couldn't make the show so Lars took my phone and called my friend.
I met him on a plane once about 10 years ago. I think everyone on the plane was a bit scared of him, but when I said hi to him and chatted him up a bit, he couldn't have been nicer.
You can't stay the same type of punk you were at 20 well into your 30's, especially if you have a family. Responsibility and obligation to your children supersedes whatever political and social predilections you have. It also seems to me that the punk genre, the punk scene in general is far less defined than it was for me as a teenager in the 90's. It bleeds across multiple genres and I just don't see the "pure punk" thing happening anymore. Street punk is pretty much gone. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm happy about it, but that's the evolution of the "rebellious spirit", which has a past, present and future. The punk rebellion, the punk spirit, it was the same seed that was in the kids of the 60's, the flower children, it took on a new form in the 70's as the idealistic altruism of the flower children burned in the fire of a subculture that sold out. The next generation of "rebels" were angry and it came in the form of punk rock/metal... it turned to ambivalence and general disenfranchisement with the genesis of grunge/goth in the late 80's-early 90's. Grunge's ambivalence and hopelessness turned to sadness and depression with emo in the late 90's/00's and so on. (I kind of sopped giving a shit about the popular subcultures around this time so I have no idea what followed.) Basically what I'm saying is that the seed of rebellion transmogrifies and changes with the generational attitudes towards the prevailing social atmosphere. Similar to the "7 stages of grief" in a sense, and I mean that figuratively, not literally. Punk will always be here in some form, but it won't be the same as it was when you got into it as a kid. Anyway, this is just how I have interpreted the "life" of punk.
Emo was a punk style from the early '80s (it's short for emotional punk). I still don't quite know how a radically different style of music/fashion inherited that name in the mid-2000s...
Mychael Darklighter It's short for emotional hardcore (but they're both derivative of punk anyway). Emo didn't really come into its own until the 90's. Rites of Spring may have formed in '84 but that was well before the label of emo was even a thing. Guy Picciotto has said that he considered every band he was in as being "punk rock" and they generally played shows with proto-hardcore bands like Minor-Threat. Honestly? It was just a misnomer. People who didn't understand the definitions of obscure genres just saw the term "emotional" and then applied to the argyle sweater wearing dudes who play acoustic guitars and sing songs about their lost loves or whatever. Can't say I blame them. They tended to be pretty dramatic.
xSergioRottenx Bands like Earth Crisis, DRI, Youth Brigade, Murphy's Law, Agnostic Front, Warzone etc I use "proto-hardcore" to describe bands that could accurately be called hardcore, (Minor-Threat, Black Flag, DOA, etc) but thought of themselves as punk rock since there was no hardcore scene at their inception. You often see the term "proto-punk" used to describe more aggressive rock n' roll bands of the late 1960's, like the New York Dolls, the MC5, The Who, The Stooges. Basically anything that punk rockers were listening to before punk was a thing. So that's where I got "proto-hardcore" from.
I like em both. Cause I am a metalhead and a punkrocker. I love rancid, I love metallica, I love slayer, I love nofx, I love judas priest, I love ramones, I love iron maiden, I love the clash, I love motorhead, I love discharge, I love suicidal tendencies, I love anthrax, I love the unseen, I love lamb of god.
I have lars fredericksons autograph on a ticket to a show I was on the way too, but I got in a car wreck. I flipped my bronco 2. My buddy had my ticket and lars fredericksons signed it. So cool dude! And my first tattoo is rancid's life won't wait, skull on my back done with a safety pin.lol Punk Rock For Life! Oi! Oi! Oi!
i gotta say i have respect for the guy, nowadays theres no such thing as freshcuts and hes been into oi many years, his tattos are his life story and everyone has tattoos,so the guy made great music, and then shaved his head hes still same guy, shiiit he had a hawk with oi shirts n boots and braces its bout time he shaved his noggin,we live in the land of free,we do what the fuck we want, cheers to all the skins worldwide,oi!
I did a OGAE tattoo on lars when we were on tour with Old firm Casuals the whole band & crew got the same tattoo that was a great day. Lars is 100% genuine bloke i still have the "Im a hard cunt" tattoo he did on my leg. total class
THE RAMONES......... Rancid is cool af, but the Ramones brought it to us all. Lars is a Ramones fan and he even convinced Johnny Ramone to attend the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Erm it's actually a standard question that follows what was your first tattoo, because a lot of people's first tattoo's suck and they get them covered up.
roger wouldn't think it was weird. he traded ink with good charlotte. they got a roger miret and the disasters tattoo (or the singer did or something) and roger got their logo. i know that's weird...
The idea that Lars is a poser simply b/c he has decided to redefine himself(not reinvent- there is a difference) is a popular sentiment in our scene, but it is a huge misunderstanding & an igonorant statement. You ask what Lars has done for the Skinhead movement- apparently you didn't catch the part in the vid where he mentions all the Oi! albums he has produced. Not to mention his 1st tattoo says "Oi!". Pay attention, boss. Find a new enemy.
I am so tripping right now. He was the love of my pre-teen life so hardcore... and now he's like... a creepy uncle. LOL I kid, he's an amazing musician and I still adore him. ...though that is all still true...
I've more or less been saying the same thing for 10 years. Soon as I started seeing everyone mom get tattoos on the back of their necks that they could cover with hair... It was like yeeeeeah time to stop
What I hate the most is what we up here in Canada called the Warped Tour bodysuit. Basically these skinny little fuckers get their throat tattooed and their hands tattooed and wear a hoodie. If they take their hoodie off there a little Pasty string bean with nothing but their hands and neck tattooed! Pretty annoying for the rest of us just started on oer arms and worked down
I kinda understand where your coming from, but what? Just 'cos a celebrity has got one they've gone to shit? Should I get mine removed because they've lost their jailhouse tough guy vibe or? What are you insisting? Sounds like jealousy more than anything else bet you've never spent over 5 hours under the gun. I bet if Bieber started listening to your favorite bands they would not be your favorite anymore. Pretty paper thin in my opinion. Sheepish.
what's wrong with asking "do you still have it" about your first tattoo? the answer is quite simple, either you covered it or you didn't. not a stupid question like you said in the first place.
20 becomes 30... its amazing growing up with this guy, even if i never talked to him. His European pride and skunx outlook, hes a a legitimate white role model. kanye who? If i have a child, they will be reared on LARS! lol Oi!
Exactly and also not to mention a lot of the time a tattoo you get from a home made tattoo gun when your 11 will likely fade the fuck out over the years.
Lars is a really nice man. People like to shit on him because he's gained some fame but he knows his shit. He's a loyal, good hearted dude who plays music for a living. JonnyUnderrated I've met him and Roger Miret this summer in a gig and they were great, roger offered to make a photo together hahaha
JonnyUnderrated he tries so hard it’s sad
People just JEALOUS!
JonnyUnderrated I feel you there
The bands are good till they make enough cash to eat food and get a pad then they've sold out and their musics cliche...
Interviewer sounds exactly like the fish from American Dad.
Klaus.
Daniel Ellis fits because nobody's here to see him we here fo LARS
He looks like Travis Barker
Bruh...😂
HAHA, YEA HE DOES
I have met Lars, he is a fucking cool dude. Don't talk shit.
I have as well. He is a cool dude. Very down to earth, even with the success he's worked so hard for. Always one of my favorite musicians.
I have a few times. Nice little story...he was signing some autographs at Warped and I asked him how Matt Freeman was doing. He was currently having health issues. Lars stopped what he was doing, looked over and seemed honestly touched someone would ask about his bandmate. A few years earlier I was backstage and my friend couldn't make the show so Lars took my phone and called my friend.
the coolest.
True
Seems like a pretty chill dude. Love the fact that he's a family man. Very cool.
love Lars, he always seems so nice, but definitely doesn't look like someone you would want mad at you
I met him on a plane once about 10 years ago. I think everyone on the plane was a bit scared of him, but when I said hi to him and chatted him up a bit, he couldn't have been nicer.
Andrew Purvis he’s really chill if you meet him, but yeah he’d kick our ass if you get on his bad side.
He looks like a soccer hooligan
Ive met him aswell about ten years ago , really really nice guy
"Lars, do you remember..." Yes, I do. "Do you..." Yes. Do you have any band tatto..." YES! - Lars does it all! Punker and Psychic!
it's all about bands basically
I love that he wore clothes to cover all his tattoos to an interview about his tattoos.
He’s busy pretending to be a skinhead
i love it!, lars: my first tattoo was on my shin now its on the side since i grew up"
"It's like.. Punk rock got popular. And it's like, no shit it got popular, it's the best music in the world."
They are pop punk, huge difference
@@rosema7909 disagree. Listen to their 5th record

chuckb11 that's pretty much how I'd had it figured. Definition drift.
chuckb11 "Proto-hardcore" woooah never heard of that...........so if Minor Threat is "proto-hardcore" which bands are the "hardcore properly" ones?
xSergioRottenx Bands like Earth Crisis, DRI, Youth Brigade, Murphy's Law, Agnostic Front, Warzone etc
