I can definitely say this is my very favorite production of this song. I think this performance in particular is my very, very favorite aria of any opera ever, though that's a tough statement to make. I love the way that Vesselina Kasarova (not featured) plays Sextus. And also think that the actor Vitellia is incredible! Her tone and stage presence is stunning. Such power!
What a ridiculous production!!!!!!!! I am sick an tired of seeing stage directors trying to "modernize" operas that are perfectly acceptable the way they were written. They do it hoping to attain glory but all the manage to do is to demonstrate their lack of respect for people greater than themselves (an thus their own stupidity) and making a beautiful masterpiece tedious for the audience.
This is an observation by me- not an argument of any kind, just something that I noticed after reading this comment... I think it may be easier on the budget and on the stagehands/builders to use a set like this- it might also be much more comfortable for the performers, so that they may give a better performance. I definitely feel that I'd perform better without a collared hoop skirt or a corset on... even if the outfits and set is modernized, I feel that it still captured the feel of the opera pleasantly- but that's just me. I'd still like to hear your own observations.
This is not modern at all. It is solid, traditional narrative-psychological theatre. All characters are profilic and act according to their dramatic and psychological state. In fact, they could have gone a bit more to the extremes, especially in a moment of such high intensity. Instead they mostly stand around and sing, adding one or another generic gesture.
@@professionalmusician1172 modern as in dressed in modern clothes as opposed to the time period written in the libretto. Changing the time period always creates problems with inconsistencies between what happens on stage and what is written in the libretto. Sadly, most people today are too uncultured to understand these inconsistencies. They are brainwashed with tv-shows and films where people from other periods act and talk like modern people and they think it makes sense. They are also so devoid of any kind of musical knowledge that they will give a standing ovation to any performance in the oepra house, no matter how mediocre.

I agree. Dorothea Roschmann was born to sing Mozart arias in my opinion. Just wonderful in whatever she does!
It's Elina Garanca as Annius here.
He visto esa producción varias veces por su alto valor musical sin embargo nunca he entendido esa producción!
my favourite Vitellia ever, but why does the video come under the category is Autos & Vehicles? a vehicle for surprise and angst, perhaps ;)

Why do think it's ridiculous? I'd just like your honest observations- not an angry response, please.

The bass sings wrong notes! Did nobody tell him in rehearsal? Also all three singers ignore sotte voce 😟😟😟
