I can feel your pains on equipment problems. We had a Komatsu dozer give us fits for 2 years. They tried everything to fix it and I mean everything. Finally figured out it was a injector problem. They replaced them and they failed again after 300 hrs. We just had to get rid of it and traded for a new machine. Thank God for a great dealership that bent over backwards to help us out. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that if you just mix all the brush in with the pulls, the loader hand won't get bored. They enjoy the challenge 😉

Great video. Great job putting the song together with the beginning of the video. Wow on the update on the 853. It took a while to strike a nerve. But at least they are now listening and understanding. Your are going to have your hands full with 3 cutters on the job. Very interesting and very informative about the chip and saw stuff. You explained that very well I think. Do you have any pressure treated plants that make the pressure treated lumber, fence post, and other things?

The pulp company is where the chip&saw logs should/could be pulled out for value-added (if they are worth more) product. All about money.

Hey man, I'm a Scandinavian with a sincere question here; why (yes, another why) aren't you guys using the "short log" technique that we have here? It'd make thinning much easier, if you get some log logs like you called it it'd just be a separate pile by the road, and so forth. All the tops and limbs could stay out in the forest, for protection when logging and after that, nourishment for the ground. Unless you wanted to haul it out to the road for chipping.
Also, only two machines along with much lower diesel costs. Look up vids on Ponsse, for instance, if you don't know what I'm babbling on about. They're pretty nifty.
Is it because of the mills being developed for full length? Trucks built for full length? Trees to tall to handle with that kind of machinery? Something else?
Thanks for a good video though, good luck with the Deere and have a nice weekend! :)

Long story short the cost doesn’t out weigh the benefit. The harvester forwarder setup cost more on the front end and actually cuts down the production when cutting small diameter wood that’s bushy. It’s been tried before in the south but it can drop first thinning and second thinning production from 3-5 loads a day which is 15-25 a week and that’s money lost

I can tell you this. If this was an issue I was having to deal with this. I make Dam sure they send me a new machine and ship this one back to headquarters in Iowa. So they can play with it with till there heart content. I'm with your father. I hate a company that can not stand in front of their products this is with John Deer as a whole. from the overprice yard lawnmower to there heavy equipment. You and others have the same issue with this company.

I tell Thomas the same thing all the time about John Deere I know a lot of contractors that you could cut them and they would bleed green, but they too are having the same problems with their machines as Thomas and his dad is with their machines and it all boils down to the service department just like Thomas says John Deere service department sucks and it’s not just in his area it’s everywhere and companies is getting so fed up with it that they’re getting rid of their whole fleet of John Deere equipment and replacing it with tiger cat I know a jerk on Thomas is changing all the time about The tiger cat equipment but I mean a man can only take so much and then you have to do something but one thing I can say about tiger cat they stand behind their equipment 110% no matter what it is

I am not a mechanic but it's a guess that maybe the engine is bad in the John Deere Trac cutter or the hydraulic pump is bad

Where is the dogget video? Lol I’m waiting to hear what they say! I’m not a logger only a miller but I’d not buy a John Deere! In my opinion low boys should be showing up with new tiger cats and hauling away that green junk. Who cares if they have fancy electronics to make them cut faster if its a paper weight on the site. This is prob your best video next to the one with the cam on the cutter head.

Sometimes stirring up a hornets nest is the only way to get action. Do you think
John Deer would have pulled out all their stops if you haven't been mentioning all the problems your having.

I get what you’re saying about not being a lot of markets for chip-n-saw but then why does your land owner company do second thinning to grow logs? Just first thin and clear cut and start over. Some of the loggers around me got into running chippers just to chip tops and brush. You talk about a losing proposition, fuel chips barely cover the trucking with nothing left for the chipper and expenses. It turns into a free service to the land owner.
