I’m about to replace the spindle housings, belt and blades on my Big Dog Alpha. Same mower, different name. This video helped a ton. Appreciate the content!
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I haven’t looked closely at the Big Dog mowers to notice they’re similar to Hustler. Good to know 👍🏼Take Care
Forget the mower. Let’s play with Riley!! LOL!! I have a Hustler Raptor, but not the SD. I just changed out the blades on mine, and replaced them with the Gator blades. I found a couple of rotten holes in the deck that will soon grow to be a problem. I appreciate your video!!
Hey Roger, Thanks for stopping to check out the video. LOL Riley would love that.. He’ll usually get me to throw his tennis ball while I’m working on something. How’s the gator blades working out for you? Mines starting to rust were the paints flaking off. Take Care 🤙🏼
@@SometimeIsNow He’s a handsome dog. A friend of mine in the lawn care business suggested the Gator blades because I have two large magnolia trees that make a horrendous mess when shedding their leaves. He said they’re a superb mulching blade that should help. We’ll see. I have St. Augustine grass in my yard so I typically cut it a little high. The Gator blades seem to give a clean cut even when set so high.
Hey nice job on the video, it really helped a lot with my first time changing the blades. Just a heads up though, I double checked the torque value in the owners manual when changing the blades for my Hustler and it shows 73 ft-lbs for the blade spindle bolts on the top and 118 ft-lbs for the blade spindle bolts on the bottom. So you might want to torque those guys a little extra this year. Haha
Thanks for stopping by the channel to watch the video. You must have a newer Hustler.. My owners manual showed the torque spec I used. Hustler must have updated the torque for the blade Ont he newer models. 🤷🏼♂ Thanks for the update. Take Care. 👍🏼
Yes, I wish I would have. 😁 Those hanger brackets were a nuisance.. Next time I’ll look at something to hold them up out of the way to make it easier to slide the deck under. 👍🏼
I have the exact same hustler, SD, 60 inch I replace the blades in about five minutes. I simply jacked the hell out of the front get enough angle to get an impact underneath and voilà 123-1235 minutes tractor back down cutting with new highlift blades just be careful how you jack the front but there’s no need to take the cradle off.
Hey Bernl, Thanks for watching the video. Yeah, thats what I typically do is just use my tractor to lift the front of the mower up and zip the blades off but I wanted to make the video on how to remove the deck for anyone who needed to could see how it comes off. Take Care 👍🏼
Hey JD, Thanks for stopping to check out the video. I did have the low grade bolts break off on the rear axle supports and the wheel tip out and throw the belt off the hydro drives. I installed grade 8 bolts in and have not had issues yet with he brackets breaking. I have looked into them when or if this happens. Also I’m going to do the discharge chute update to match the Hustler SD X models. I’m tired of the grass getting caught on that lower support bar at the discharge area with deeper grass. Take Care
@@SometimeIsNow Sounds good, thank you for the kind response. I have not had any issues with mine either but i am going to upgrade them, fairly cheap. My SD is a 2019 and does have the upgraded deck mod from the factory and it discharges great. I love your channel and videos. -All the best. -Jeremy
Should have taken your john deere and lifted the front of the mower or you could hsve just taped them brackets up out of the way. Think it would of made the job easier and quicker. Only a sugestion. Thanks for the video. I own a flip up so blades and cleaning the bottom of the deck are a piece of cake.
Hey Rod, Thanks for stopping by the channel to check out the video. This was my first time removing the deck. Lessons learned on this first attempt. Definitely going to use some sort of strap to hold the support hangers out of the way when re-installing the deck. Thanks for the tips.👍🏼 Take Care
Yes it was. I just had a couple right axle bolts break off and I almost lost the hydro gear drive on the right side. Got it squared away and back together. Take Care
Спасибо, что остановились, чтобы посмотреть видео. Да, вот почему я упомянул об использовании чего-то, чтобы убрать вешалки с дороги. Делает это намного проще. Береги себя 👍🏼
Hey Tony, No wash ports on this welded deck. It’s been a great mower so far. When I purchased this I only paid $4300 and thats with the bagger attachment .
Good video, but the title was wrong for this video. When I see deck repair, there should have been welding involved and not just deck cleaning. I tell my customers all the time to stop cutting wet grass then you won't have all that buildup which causes rust. I believe that you also can lift the front end once the deck is off and just pivot to one side. Straps are also a good choice.
Thanks ,wonderful job, this teach much to all of us.God Bless you friend

Hey Tony, Thank you, and thanks for stopping by to check out the video. Take Care 👍🏼
I used a ratchet strap around it to hold up all the obstacles in the way
Excellent tip !! Thanks for stopping by to check out the video. 👍🏼
Great presentation. I have the same machine and it cuts great.
Hey Joe, Thanks for stopping by the channel to check out the video. Yes, The Hustler Raptor really does do a great job mowing. 👍🏼 Take Care
I think, to make it easier for one person, is to have the mower shop do it😂
😂 Good idea
You could use duck tape too hold those attachments up. Quick and easy 😌
Yes, I wish I would have. 😁 Those hanger brackets were a nuisance.. Next time I’ll look at something to hold them up out of the way to make it easier to slide the deck under. 👍🏼
@@SometimeIsNow I always have bungies available for just that task.

If you use a bungee or a ratchet srap to hold those brackets up, you will save a little effort.

Glad I bought the one with the flip up front. It I can just remember what button to push and pin to pull in the right order.
Yeah.. the flip up front deck sure would be much nicer. 👍🏼 Thanks for watching! Take Care

Have you ever had the reported common issue of breaking the transmission and hydro brackets? They have Thicker ones available for upgrade.

The reason you used John Deere paint, you must have priced some Hustler paint. $$$

Don’t they have wash ports

You got those wheels in the wrong holes. You are mowing too low for the wheel setting, thats why the wheel brackets are bending . Check owners man.
Best dogs
I’d have to agree Tony. He’s an amazing friend and goes everywhere with me. 👍🏼
