When I first got “Borderline” decades ago I thought “What a waste of money.” Then I listened with headphones and my mind was blown. RC is one of my GOATS. Even earlier I bought “Oooh So Good ’n Blues” and I thought I wasted $5 (it was a long time ago!). Then I heard a program called The History of Rock and Roll, and when they went to the beginning of R&R, to the Blues I thought “They’re playing TJ! TJ is another GOAT!

These guys are go great. When real talent gets together look what you get with the simplest percussion, a harmonica, and a mandolin. Of course you have Cooder's soul voice, and the great Taj Mahal. Just fantastic. I'm gonna listen to "Take a Giant Step" right now.
My words could never give them the praise they deserve! They separately and together are SO AWESOME. AND THIS SONG IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES! IT NEVER FAILS TO PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE AND GETS MY ONE LEG A TAPPING. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR RESCUING ME MANY TIMES!!!

So I have been fortunate enough to see Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee a few times and they always blue me away. So unique a sound! And Ry and Taj are no less legendary then they were. You guys both had large impact on me personally and on the whole blues and roots movement that was exploding back then.

Always loved the open warmth of that F4 and what you do with it ..Perfect frame for Taj's harmonica..What a joy to hear you two together again at this end of the ride .. Very glad to still be around to catch this .. YOu have both given so much to my life.. Most days one or the other of you have been on in my pottery barn these 50 years while Im making pots .Both of you have changed or opened my ears in the best way ..Ry has taught me that the space in between the playing is as important as the notes and Taj (and Clerance Ashley) made me go down the road of clawhanner banjo ... A deep thanks to you both for a life time of joy ...

Two of the best. Ry and Taj. Masters at their craft. I saw Taj with his first band with Jesse Ed Davis in the late 60s and many times thereafter. I caught Ry Cooder in the late 60s at the University of Washington Hub ballroom. These two bluesmen are tight as a tick and have shown the world what the blues is for over 50 years. God bless Taj and Ry. Pure gold. Thanks guys.

Just walked out of the first of two Ry / Taj dates at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco half an hour ago.
What utterly uplifting, moving stuff - and I write that as someone who's been attending their gigs (on separate billing, alas) for 40 plus years.
The last surviving straight line connection to this great American heritage of ours - Rev. Gary, Jesse Fuller, Sonny and Brownie.
Not to be missed if they opt to extend their tour.

Saw Ry open for Taj in Houston Jan71. Little Feat opened for them. It was an amazing show. There was banter during the show about the Rolling Stones stealing his links lifted from a jam together that ended up uncredited on Beggars Banquet. Was a heady evening for a 19 year old.
