in most interviews christian seems kinda shy, but in this he's really funny, i love him so damn much. he doesn't have any social media but i think he would be great and hysterical.
Stephen's father and brother died in a plane crash when he was 10. I'd imagine Christian (and the audience) didn't realize why that line hit him harder than most.
I kind of cringed when he said that - Stephen's talked about the death of his father and brothers quite a few times over the years so I figured it was pretty well known, but I guess he didn't realise.
Lucky you!! I would loved to have seen it. I read that they filmed and are going to be showing it on PBS at some point. I definitely need to keep an eye out for that. It's not the same as seeing it looks live, but it's much better than not seeing it at all.
Yes, I believe it's set to air in the fall and I am so grateful that it was preserved for all to see!! I was so thrilled to see him get Tony nominated for the role, completely deserved! My favourite performance of the season.
Lemme tall ya'll about Charlie and the chocolate factory on broadway. Back in August, I got to see it with a friend of mine and it was one of the weirdest shows ever. Act 1 is everyone collecting the tickets while act 2 is inside the factory. Charlie and the chocolate factory is for kids right? This one ain't. 1) The grandparents say: "Hope we die in our sleep!" Fun right? 2a) One of the moms bring in a flask. Wonka tells her no alcohol allowed she says it's just lemonade. Wonka takes a sip before belting out fucking Whitney Houston. 2b) The mom says "You can visit my factory anytime Mr Wonka." I was so uncomfortable, so were others. (It was funny tho) 3a) They flat out kill the kids like you've heard. It's been a while since i read the book, but i'm 98% sure they don't die. 3b) Salt gets ripped into shreds...ON STAGE 3a) The girl who turns into the blueberry? Her dad comes on stage covered in blue ribbons and cries about how his daughter just exploded. Jolly. 4) The mom was Mike TV's. I can barely remember but she does reference it a lot that she drinks and hates her life. 5) Mike TV: "YOU KNOW WHERE YOU CAN SHOVE IT!" Now, I had a great time watching this musical, it was so enjoyable. I feel like these were added for the adults who took their kids and for the teenagers as well. They actually made it more funny. Christian was great, my voice cracked when i was cheering so that made it even louder. You should totally go see it if you can!
Have you ever read the original Grimm's fairytales? Or Howard Pyle's Robin Hood? Or even good old Mother Goose? This stuff is TAME compared to what used to be considered suitable for children...
@@lily-cr4tn There are various "slime tutorials" of the Broadway version - especially of that scene since "one of the bad kids gets ripped apart onstage" was heavily mentioned in reviews of the show at the time and everyone wanted to see if the scene was as bad/scary as people were saying. Basically they have a big song-and-dance number with some giant squirrels and towards the end, the actress playing Veruca runs up this conveyor belt at the back of the stage and is offstage for about 2 seconds. During that time, the actress gets swapped out for a dummy. At the very end of the song, the squirrels' eyes start glowing red, they drag "Veruca" back down the conveyor belt and...well, just as the lyrics of the song talk about "ripping her limb from limb", the squirrels basically do exactly that to the dummy. Including pulling off the head. As for the other kids, according to some reviews you could apparently clearly see Augustus' head going up the pipe after he falls into the chocolate river but no body underneath it which...yeah, Violet exploded as the OP says, and I'm pretty sure Mike didn't actually die but his mother was actually happy that he gets shrunk and decided to just keep him that way rather than having him stretched out like in the original story. Like, I know everyone likes to joke about Willy Wonka being a serial killer but the Broadway version is the only one that actually went there. And considering the whole thing was marketed as generally being a "kids show" (even more than the original and ultimately much less dark West End version was), it was a...very weird creative choice, to put it mildly.
I think Stephen was totally unprepared for that " I want my father back " thing. You can literally see him lean back a little and breathe deeply at around 3.10.
I guess he knew Stephen would take it in stride, but it's a little surprising he went there with that 'I just want my father back' story considering what happened to Stephen as a kid.
Christian Borle is one of the top talents in the world. I've seen him in several shows and of course "Smash", which was amazing, and he is fantastic in every show. What a singer, dancer, actor! And he also has this sexual energy that adds great depth and interest to the characters he plays.
I saw the show it's Awesome. My favorite part is when the town people sings WILLY WANKA WILLY WANKA the song is stuck inside my head every day I love it
Anyone else here because they’ve just watched Legally blonde the musical and are in love with a Christian so are youtubing the shit out of him? No just me okay ahahahah
Wilder was always everyone's favorite. Depp was absolutely AWFUL as Willy Wonka. If it wasn't for Wilder, the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would've completely bombed, and you wouldn't have any remakes or Broadway shows. Instead, Wilder was soooo amazingly good, that the movie became an instant classic.
I love how the audience doesn't know who he is but they still pretend to be super excited

No, it’s dooring.
Stephen's father and brother died in a plane crash when he was 10. I'd imagine Christian (and the audience) didn't realize why that line hit him harder than most.
I knew that about Stephen's father and brother, but I didn't make the connection :'-(
I kind of cringed when he said that - Stephen's talked about the death of his father and brothers quite a few times over the years so I figured it was pretty well known, but I guess he didn't realise.
I guess I missed it; which line?
