      I'm still waiting for a team to get some sumo wrestlers for O-linemen. I mean, they're fast, quick, and their job is to push with upper body. THAT'S O-line work.

  • @Chamomileable
    @Chamomileable ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Usually the heaviest guys on your team are your O-line. They play a vital role in forming a wall of muscle and meat in order to give the QB the best possible chance of having enough time to complete the play. Other roles like defensive tackle are also frequently big dudes. It's way less common, but in smaller leagues like the NCAA and in high school leagues, you see more variance (with some teams having their biggest dudes be a kicker, nose guard, or center just being a huge brick wall)

    The biggest guys on the field are usually offensive tackles or guards.
    But the widest (aka fattest) guys on the field are the nose tackles (defensive tackles whose primary job is to take on 2 or more opposing offensive linemen in order to free up the other defensive players to make a play). However, not every team has a nose tackle as some teams rely on defensive schemes that don't require one.

    Offensive linemen are definitely the biggest men on the field. My ex-husband was a Division 1 offensive lineman - center - and played for a short time in the NFL until he had a career-ending injury. He was 6'-5" and 398 pounds. When he wasn't home or at practice he was in the weight room. He was HUGE - not fat just pure muscle. That was almost 30 years ago and his body (and brain) are severely paying for his football career, but he was a massive man at the age of 23. It was very hard to find size 5X and 6X shirts and pants his legs fit in.

  • @danbaker300

    I think the phrase you were thinking of at the beginning was "stiff-arm". And yeah, those are a lot of fun to watch. I remember a college game where Michigan State let Jack Allen (the team's starting center) line up as a running back and take a handoff on Senior Day (last home game of the player's final season) and he gave an absolute textbook stiff-arm and ran it for a touchdown from about 10 yards out.
    The biggest guys are the linemen, especially interior linemen on both sides of the ball (defensive ends are noticeably lighter than the tackles; offensive linemen are a bit more consistently beefy regardless of position on the line).

    • @pjschmid2251

    As far as the biggest/heaviest players on a football team that honor goes to offensive linemen who tend to be the largest players on the field, with excellent agility & balance along with quickness but limited in straight forward running speed. For example, Las Vegas Raiders offensive tackle Trent Brown is the largest NFL player in 2020, at 380 lbs, 6 ft 6 inches tall. Most of the NFL offensive lineman sizes fall somewhat below that but are still big boys to move around on the offensive line by the defense.
    To match the size of the offensive tackles, the next heaviest/biggest player by position is normally defensive tackle who right now is T.J. Barnes at 364 lbs., who plays on the current Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. There are a few other defensive linemen that match close to his size that I can’t name right now but are in the same weight/size category. I did not take into account of the players/rookies coming into the league as new draft picks, free agents/walk-ons yet to be discovered.

    Your heaviest player is generally going to be the "nose tackle" in 3-4 defenses (a single middle lineman lined up right in front of the center with a defensive end on either side and 4 Linebackers behind them), followed by the two defensive tackles in a 4-3 defense (a line consisting of two DT just to the sides of the center with a DE on either side and 3 LBs)
    Jordan Davis was a DT/NT for last year's *college* champion, measuring in at 1.99M and 341lbs. Still ran 4.78 seconds in the 40 yard dash.

    Usually the heaviest guys on the team are the guys who play on the center of the offensive and defensive lines: For the offense, it's usually the Center and the Guards. For defense it's usually the Defensive Tackles.
    Center and Guards need to be big in order to hold their blocks against enormous defensive linemen, while defensive tackles need to be big in order to break through the offensive line and obstruct the line of scrimmage.

  • @JVTrickypants
    @JVTrickypants ปีที่แล้ว

    Defensive Tackles are usually up there as the biggest, but also are easily the most athletic of anybody that size on offense or defense. Offensive lineman are huge as well, and do need certain skills, but it's mostly reactional defense. The best DTs in the game, Warren Sapp, Suh, Wilfork, etc., were carrying 330+ pounds and also had an insane amount of dexterity to get past the similarly sized offensive linemen.

    In terms of shear gut size and fat, you will most likely see the left guard (left of snapper) center (snapper) and right guard (right of snapper) being the biggest on offense, while the defensive tackles are probably the biggest on defense in terms of gut size. When you look at pure muscle mass, you will see most of the big guys with muscle on the defensive ends or linebackers. Running backs too and the rare receiver like D.K. Metcalf. This is from personal experience but in general it’s like that

  • @AG-OldmanBrick
    @AG-OldmanBrick ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Generally the largest guys will be your offensive and defensive linemen. On the offensive side of the ball it would be the 5 guys that line up in front of the quarterback; avg. size is 6'1" to 6'6" or 6'7" and somewhere between 300lbs to 330lbs. On the defensive side of the ball it's usually the interior defensive linemen, or the Defensive Tackle or Nose Tackle; a typical DT will be 6'2"+ and weigh north of 320lbs.
    For example; the first guy in the clip was William "Refrigerator" Perry, he was a DT for the Chicago Bears in the 80s; he's 6'3" and was around 330-340lbs. Normally he would have not touched the ball, but the coach had a special play for him near the endzone; he had 4 TDs his rookie season from the offensive side of the ball. 2 rushing TDs, 1 receiving TD in the regular season and then the one in the clip was in the Super Bowl, Bears won this Super Bowl 44-10 vs the New England Patriots.
    The second in the clip was B.J. Raji; nicknamed The Freezer. He was DT for the Green Bay Packers in the 2010s; that play was an interception in the NFC Championship game vs the Chicago Bears and it sent the Packers to the Super Bowl, which they would win vs the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25. Raji is 6'2" and was probably 340- 350lbs at the time. He has 1 career rushing TD and the one "pick 6" in the playoffs.

    Biggest positions. Now days, you will see some thinner defensive lineman who specialize in rushing the quarterback, but generally speaking the biggest boys will be on the line. They are also exceptionally strong. Not so much speed obviously. The linebackers you mentioned are generally more svelt and have some speed. They are no small people by any means, but weight wise they are generally slightly lighter (230-250ish?) and mostly speed and muscle and toughness.

    Generally the biggest guys in terms of weight tend to be nose tackles on defense. Just massive dudes whose job is to clog up the middle to stop runs.

    Stiff arm is where they use their hand to push away tacklers. The biggest guys are usually interior defensive lineman, also known as defensive tackles or in certain algnments, nose tackles. BTW, that last one wasn't the guy that intercepted the pass and was returning it. That guy was probably about 250lbs, it was the offensive lineman at 325 that chased him down and tackled him.

    The amazing part about the last video isn't the guy with the ball and he's not the one they're saying is 325. They're talking about the guy that RAN him down and tackled him, Larry Allen (and Im willing to bet 325 is well under his actual weight at the time). An offensive lineman who was basically standing still running down a linebacker who was already in full sprint is crazy.

I hate the Houston Astros team. Not only is Guriel a racist who I was extra offended by because I am Asian and he made fun of an Asian player l but he was also a apart of the team there that went two world serieses and won one of them by systematically cheating as a team. He still plays for the Astros now! I hate him and the Astros!
