    You done a really good job of explaining /demonstrating all those great tips whilst recording at the same time, bet this wasn't easy?!
    Some real sound advice in this one, and I picked up quite a few very valuable tips/ideas myself.
    This series of videos would be so handy for anyone about to attack their first body shell, but at the same time has some valuable advice for more seasoned hobbyists as well.
    I don't think a lot of people actually realise how much time, effort and skill go into pulling off the perfect body shell!!
    Most enjoyable to watch with a nice strong cider after a hard day's work!
    Would be most interested to see a similar series on hard plastic bodies, as these are a totally different game..... and your previous videos showcasing your custom lunchies etc clearly demonstrate that are certainly very competent in this area of the hobby!
    Cheers for sharing this with us matey. 😊

      Thank you, and I am glad you both enjoyed it and maybe got a tip or two from it. I wanted these to be more in depth then most I have seen out there, most seem to be 10 minute start to finish high level. Of course I like to talk so you know mine are going to be longer anyways! I may end up doing a hard body one in the future. Less fiddly as there is less prep work (body does not need cutting out) but an equal amount of planning on layering colors and getting them to pop! Take care dude and I was enjoying a cider or two last night as well!

      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jeremy! Yeah I kept getting fuzzy bits and random bits of stuff under the edges of the mask lines and could not figure it out until I looked at the roll and it had stuff stuck to it. Also keeps them from getting dinged up and stuff too.

    Hi Addam, tons of useful information and tips here again! Boy, I have never been brave enough to use the reamer in a power drill! I also leave some of the holes till after painting. Good point about how the Lexan thins out towards the edges of the mould, I always find it trickier cutting the flimsy bits! I'm so impressed by how you scored and snapped that wheel arch on camera! You have steadier hands than me my friend!!!! Great point about keeping your masking tape clean, I've had fluffy edges in the past and it's definitely not good! Agreed, the Tamiya masking tape is the best I've used. Well, that was a long one but well worth watching! Take care dude!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Mark! When the reamer was brand new it was too sharp to do it this way. I mainly do it as when I tore my bicep in my right arm it is the one that mainly helps you twist your forearm and doing a lot of twisting action like the body reamer makes that damaged muscle cramp up badly! so it is both a time saver and a pain prevention tool for me!
      Cutting the body on camera was a very odd and difficult thing to do! Normally I am very up close and tight to my body with to brace everything from moving, this time it was arms out and hugging the camera! way different experience and I don't recommend it! LOL!
      The fuzzy tap can be a pain and as much as this stuff costs I don't mind storing it safely! One roll is not bad but once you have 6 or 8 of them you have a chunk of change invested so keeping it safe is a good idea.
      It was a long one but I thought it better in a long format than broken up into 3 or 4 smaller ones, you are a trooper for getting through it all!! LOL!

    One trick I used to use when masking was to cut a fresh edge on my tape before sticking it down. We kept a piece of plate glass on the bench, wiped it really clean, stuck a length of tape to it and cut a fresh edge with a razor knife. Peeled it up and masked with it. The freshly cut edge was far straighter and cleaner than the edge as it comes on the roll and we had little to no bleed either. We also really burnished the tape edges when masking.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a good idea. Most of the crisp lines I want I use the tamiy tape for, that is a lot better then the big box store stuff. Still a very good idea and I will keep that one in memory!

    937 hours long😂Thankyou so much for spending your time to teach & share your knowledge and experience with us Addam! 🙏. Again we learnt so many things and way too much to mention in a comment. I've never seen anyone carefully cut the backing of a Window mask like that before. The score and snap looks so easy and we can't wait to try it on a build hopefully soon. Ouch the splinters of polycarbonate!!!, unfortunately I have to drag my feet when walking and have driven a super fine piece of it into my foot and it ended up touching a nerve big problem! So yep learned my lesson on that one lol.
    Thanks again from us for your great video Addam👍. Hope your well mate🦘🇦🇺

      Thank you! Yeah it was a long one and there was 10 different video clips recorded over several days to make all this up! Unfortunately a few of them were recorded on laundry day so the hum of the dryer and occasionally noise from the washer made it into those. No way I could go back re-record them though. I m glad you picked up a few new tricks and tips from it.
      Yeah the scraps of lexan and the tiny bits of plastic from nipping parts of the parts trees can be nasty little landmines to step on! it is a really quick way to get in trouble with anyone else you live with or pay the price yourself like in your case!

    Addam, you put on a great series on how to paint RC bodies, there are a few things that caught my attention (scoring the mask) I will have to try that one. To many attempts to put on window mask 94/5 times) before I get it close to perfect. From part 1 again scoring the lexan body then snapping it off. I always thought that it would leave a small crack so I never tried it. But seeing you do that I will give it a shot on my next body. Thank you for taking the time and showing us tip, tricks of the trade. 💯💯💯👍👍

      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed it and may have picked up some new things to try. For the big window masks you can peel up half of it and cut the backing off and then trim a 1/4 inch out of the center and stick the big piece back on leaving the little strip down the middle too. The window masks have always been something I never look forward to but has to be done well. I will get the last one done soon, I have both gotten distracted by other things and also lost a whole bunch of the up close footage so I am having to record it all again on another body! Needless to say that SD card got tossed! Take care Al and I appreciate all the kind words!

      Thank you! Pick yourself up a buggy kit and go for it!!! Honestly the Neo Fighter is great one to try for a first build. It is a great kit, you don't have to mask out the windows and it is a fairly simple box art paint job or you can make it your own colors and it will look good! You just need to get a bearing kit for it, paint and a radio system so for about $65 extra you'll have everything you need.

    This is an outstanding instructional video. I learned a lot and I will probably go back and watch certain parts again. Thanks a lot for doing it. I know the close up sections were difficult to film, but they allowed the viewer toes details. I have two things for future consideration. I'm sure that putting up an overhead camera view would be hard to do and expensive, but something to consider. You may want to consider breaking a long video into two shorter vides. With this one a good stopping point might've been after the bodies were cut out. I know nothing about filming and editing so I may be way out bounds. I watched the video in parts and came back later to finish. Your explanations and tips are excellent. I am anxious to see the next one.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Michael and thanks for the feedback. I was torn to leave it all as one video or to break into smaller ones. I went with the longer format to both not drag it out over multiple more weeks and they way they were recorded would have been hard to break them up. It was not meant to be this long, just the way it worked out. I editing a lot of me going off topic out of it!!
      I like the idea of an overhead angle, I will have to see what I can do to make something up for it if possible.
      It was very difficult to work around the camera! I usually work up close to both brace the body and my arms to reduce wobbles and shakes from affecting things. I was lucky and did not mess anything up!!
      Not my normal forte for doing a how to video so there are definitely lessons learned!!
      Again, thanks for the feedback and I am always trying to figure out what works and what doesn't!

I’ve used many methods of cutting the body, I’ve lately used the score and snap method in my latest couple of bodies. I’ll be switching to Frog tape or similar from now on too. Yeah the Tamiya masking tapes are awesome, but damn, they are expensive 😊😊. Looking forward to the painting segment. 😊😊😊best wishes to you and the fsmily 😊

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank John! Yeah, it was a long one! There is just so much to talk about and show it is hard to condense it all. Tape storage is not bad when you have one or 2 rolls as if it gets damaged it is easy to replace. When you have 6, 8, 10 or more rolls for this stuff you have some money invested and want to make sure it stays in good shape. It is easy to mess up the tiny rolls too as they won't last long shoved in a drawer somewhere! I do love the Tamiya tapes, they work very well and come off without any goop left behind! Thanks for checking it out and the great feedback! Take care and have a great weekend!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reamer can be a great asset as long as it is sharp! A nice and sharp one will bore through very easily, sometime almost too quickly. Mine is getting a little dull but it has made quite a few holes!!! I used the scissors for a long time before I started with the score and snap method. The scoring method can really help on things like wheel arches to keep from chewing up the protective film, not scratching the body and leaving a nice and smooth edge. It just take a little bit of practice and it becomes much less scary! It is a long one, there was just a lot to say and show.

I too, keep my tape in a container (zip lock bags) cause I have 2 dogs and freaking hair gets everywhere!!!! Yup, drop a roll of tape on the floor and its a dirt/dust/hair & whatever magnet... I never got my finger with a Reamer but I had the Lexan suck the reamer in more than I wanted it to go (using it by hand). Oh yeah, a thin rocker panel & sharp scissors will zip right along (I had it curve up into the doors before) But I man handle them, finesse is not in my nature.

      Yeah there is an awful lot of stuff to do before the first bit of paint can go on usually. Lots and lots of things learned from failures as well! Yeah, I kept wondering why I was getting odd fuzzy stuff and random bit of grit under the tape when masking and I finally looked at the roll I was using and it was a mess! It works much better when sealed up and protected in something! LOL you do have to be gentle from time to time!

      I am sure it can be done but I do not know how to do it. It is very difficult to sharpen conical, fluted things. You have to do it the same on both sides and the same all the way down the flutes to make sure one side is not cutting more than the other. Once they are too dull to work well I order a new one from Amazon for $13!!! LOL! Much easier!
