MF-01x Speed Run - Epic Crash Edition

- So… the last speed run footage got deleted, this speed run was recorded but was an epis failure. I am starting to feel like this is not meant to be. Parts are ordered and since everyone is breaking things I had to order from several places, and I will get it back together as soon as possible! Good luck to everyone else!

Dude! That is the most destruction I've seen so far. And it happened so fast! I can't believe it! Like, EVERYTHING is toast! And the mark the wheel left in the post is absolutely crazy. WOW, what a hit! Sorry for the horrific crash, dude. That one was a doozy!
LOL! If I am not going to make it to the top in speed I may as well make the gnarliest crash! Obviously I was not planning on rebuilding the whole car but post vs car made that choice and I will get it back out there once all the parts show up. Tamiya USA is being ridiculously slow filling orders as always! It will go over 70mph or I am going to roast marshmallows over its burning ashes! I will not give up LOL!

LOL! Yes! I have wrecked many times and broken many things over all my years in the hobby but I have never wrecked so badly and broken all the things at once! LOL! I may not win a top spot in speed this year but I think I have a firm grip on most destructive crash so far! I left my mark on the post but it left its mark as well! The body will carry that scar forever! I have all the parts on the way and I will get it rebuilt and back out there as soon as possible. I am going to a bigger and smoother location next time with less things to hit so maybe the 3rd time is the charm! I sure hope so!

I may not win the top spot for speed but I think I have a firm grip on most destructive crash in the competition at the moment! The head down walk of shame was have disappointment and half me trying to control my temper as I really wanted to pick it up and hurl it into the woods and drive home! I kept my cool, picked up the parts and came home and ordered what I needed. Sadly it is taking them entirely too long to pack and ship the parts, thinking I should have just ordered a new kit but was trying to save a few bucks! I am getting that car over 70mph or i am going to roast marshmallows over its flaming remains! LOL! I am not out yet, just delayed!

If I did not already have the chassis and a few other things here I would have bought a new kit. Thankfully I was able to find everything and it is all on its way. I have wrecked and broken a lot of stuff in my life but never broken all of it in one go! LOL! I I will get it rebuilt and it will go 70+ or I will burn it to the ground and roast marshmallows over its ashes HAHAHA!!!

I will be getting that built and back out for a run as soon as I can. I am going to get this thing over 70mph or watch it go up in flames trying!!

Yes, it did not go as I hoped out there and I am building another to go back out there and try again! There was not a ton left of useable parts off of it as the good pile and broken pile were about the same size! I did leave my mark on the post but it definitely won the fight! LOL! I am not going to give in until I get this thing going over 70mph or enjoy watching it burn to the ground! LOL

Yeah that post just laughed and I almost hurled the car in the woods and came home LOL! I kept my cool, ordered new parts and it will be back as soon as possible. I am going to a new location next time, there should be very little there to hit!!!
@AddamsPlayground I've been so wrapped up in my construction equipment and trailers I haven't even touched my speed run stuff to many projects never enough time a new location would be a good idea the MF-01X gets hard to handle at low speeds much less 50+

Yeah it was not how I had planned the morning to go that is for sure. I have stuff on the way to get it fixed/replaced. Tamiya USA is terrible about shipping things with any sense of urgency so I broke down and ordered a new kit the should be here this weekend (fingers crossed). I will get it built and back out there as soon as I can!

Yes it did, I left a mark on it but it certainly won the fight! I really wanted to find the dog bone out there as I am pretty sure it is in a U shape but it was nowhere to be found. The piles of broken and salvageable parts was getting pretty even, thankfully I had gotten a spare chassis and driveshaft already. I did have shocks on hand as well so it was not to many parts I had to order. Once they get here it gets put back together and back out for another go!

LOL! I think I one-upped James with this one! I have wrecked and broke a lot of stuff over the years but not quite this much all at once! It will be back out there as soon as I can. It will get over the 70mph mark or burn to the ground trying! LOL! My next run will be in a much larger, smoother location with less things to run into!

I won't lie, my first reaction to seeing it so busted up is I wanted to hurl it into the woods behind me and just leave. I think the camera being on and the lipo battery in there kept me from doing it! LOL! I have the parts on the way and it will be back out once I get it all reassembled! I will get into the 70s with it no matter what!

Yeah, I left my mark on the post and the post left it mark on the car... the post won! I have all the parts coming and will get it rebuilt as soon as I can. I will be going out to a safer place with a smoother surface and less things to hit on the next run with it!!

That's a 90 km/h impact and continued to travel only a couple of feet post impact and Ingrid thinks it spun atleast 9 times. WOW that was spectacular but sad. You took it like a true champion considering the amount of damage. We're glad you have all the bits to fix it, we straight away thought that's it he's out of the challenge, we've heard parts a scarce because of the challenge.

It was not how I had planned out the morning but it was the most spectacular crash I have witnessed in person! It went from 56 to nothing immediately! I may not win the fastest speed but I think I have a firm grip on most devastating crash so far.

It did not go as planned! I had intended on 60+ with the 2s pack and hopefully 70+ on the 3s but we went from 56 to 0 way to quickly! LOL! I have the parts coming and it will be back out for another run as soon as I can. I do have some more stuff lined up for you all between now and then so there will be other stuff going on besides this rebuild.

It was a quick but epically total destruction crash! I knew I broke the chassis but every section of it was broken! Like they say, if you are going to do something, do it the best that you can! 4:29 I'm only half way through and man do I feel for you. I'm at work , sat down , this was the first video I'm watching, but my blue tooth speaker wasn't on yet. Saw the crash , first reaction was holy crap , the speaker kicked on during the slow mo and when I heard the audio I was dieing laughing. Then the walk of shame, I was like, "Oh no, he big mad." Then I saw you toss the pieces into the car, and I was back to feeling really bad.

I did both, went hard and went home ... with a bag of car parts! LOL! I was pretty upset walking back with a body shell full of broken stuff but I can laugh about it now. At the time I just wanted to hurl it in the woods and drive home but I kept my cool. I got all the parts on order and once they show up it will be back out for another try. I am hoping that the 3rd time is the charm. Next runs will be in a much larger, smoother and open area, less things to hit!!! Taking the good with the bad and moving on, I get to build it all over again so there is that!! LOL!! Take care mate!

I still haven't managed to post an official time in the brushed category yet because of broken rear lower arm issues, beetle body tearing apart and aftermarket wheels exploding at the slightest touch.
Ill be back out today to try and film one run where everything goes ok and be done with it!! Lol
It did not go to plan that is for sure. These are some finicky and twitchy little things to try and get going fast! I have some of the parts here and the rest are on the way so as soon as I can get it all reassemble d it will be back out for another go. Next time will be at a larger and smoother location so less things to hit or cause issues. Best of luck with yours as well, I hope the both of us are done with tearing things up!
That was a hard hit. The aftermath is always a pain to repair and mentally you're thinking if I would've only done this or that. But, you will get it together and get it out there again. Good luck.
Yeah i keep wishing I had just yanked the wheel and tumbled it across the pavement. I sure it would have been a bit beat up but probably in a bit better shape than it is now! LOL! Sorry for your loss Addam. I did the same thing back in the day with an F201, probably going just as fast. I was able to rebuild it but it never ran the same. Best of luck with the repair bud!
I am hopeful since most of the parts getting reused are from the front it should be ok. It broke something on ever section of the multi piece chassis so all of that is being replaced so I think it should be ok. If not I am gonna send it wonky!!! I was pretty mad when it happened but I can laugh at it now. Hearing the slow ohhhh noooo a few times editing the video made me laugh it off!
2.06 I totally feel you, man... There's highs and lows on speedruns, you just hit rock bottom, my friend...
I'm bummed for you, that's a lot of extra work to get back at it... Happy the body made it almost unscathed, and also happy it is you this happened to, you can afford it and you have the determination to perservere, some others might be worse off in a situation like this. And of course happy the crash happened on that side of the road, that you didn't get hurt.
The MF chassis is so damned nervous, I've seen in so many videos, people need to steer all the time, accidents are bound to happen...
Just happy it was only material damage...
Thanks Mads, it could have been a lot worse and I could have Pete Wylied myself or my wife with it. I may not wind first place in speed but I think I have a firm grip on the most gnarly crash so far! I am still not 100% sure what happened, it looked a lot different in video than I remember seeing it when driving but in the end it ended poorly and I will get it rebuilt! I have all the parts I need on the way and will be back out to a larger and hopefully safer spot to run next time!

Yeah, not the result I was looking for out there! I should be able to get it rebuilt this weekend, supposedly the new kit will arrive on Saturday. I had originally ordered just the parts I needed but Tamiya USA is about the slowest place in the world to get things from. Ordered on Sunday and still have not shipped out. Very disappointed in them but I have another kit coming in and should be here Saturday. This is getting to be a costly adventure doing these speed runs! I will get it to over 70mph or kill it trying!
@@AddamsPlayground im sure you will get there, sadly had to sit this one out 😭 very little time to get runs in, crap weather and couldnt really afford to buy one. So many big vintage events to pay for. Its not cheap going to all these events. Will be as bad next year aswell 😂

Sorry about the crash. That Mazda body looks awesome. For the ding or dent, try using a kitchen torch or anything that provide pin point heat will usually return to plastic to normal or normal-ish. For kitchen torch, I heat it with just 1 or 2 clicks of heat and it restore and wait and repeat if necessary. Practice on spares 1st.
I can laugh at it now but when I picked it up and saw it was in multiple pieces my first thought was to hurl it into the woods behind me and just go home! LOL! the parts are on order and it will be back as soon as I can get it all repaired. The body will get a little shoe-goo in the back to fix the split but I am going to rock the scars of everything else! It earned them!
Oh god Addam you have certainly beaten me in terms of amount of damage caused to an MF-01X in a crash 😬 This is a tricky chassis at speed for sure. It is gutting when this sort of thing happens but I know you'll be back when you get all the bits. Best wishes mate 😁👍👍

The body still looks good. That was a walk of shame if I ever saw one. Sucks it was totaled. Worst damage I have seen in a single crash!
The body is dinged up but loves to make another run. The rest of it was a total mess! It was a very "internally conversational" walk of shame for sure. Mostly talking myself out of hurling it into the woods and driving home without it! LOL! I kept my cool, scooped up the pieces and came home and ordered what I needed to get it rebuilt. I will find out if that was a good decision or not on the next run I guess! LOL!

Ouch… you really did a number on that car Addam 😢. It might be cheaper to source another kit and just salvage parts off the wreck, at least then you will have a few spare parts if any other solid objects jump out in front of you again.

Gutted for you Addam, such a shame it was on the first pass as well. As others have said a new or even a second hand built kit may be more cost effective. At least in the Uk the Beetle kit can be had new for a little over £120. Hope you can get back up and running before the end!

Sorry to see that crash... 56 with stock dampers? Maybe that was the cause.
Yeah it did not go as planned! it does have the mini CVAs on it. When the top ripped off the bladder was still intact so no oil came out. The road is old and is not the smoothest so when I got towards the edge and not in the middle where I wanted it to be, it got into the rougher pavement and was not happy. The next outing will be at a much smother area with less things to hit! I am getting ready to go down now and start the new build.

Hope you can repair it. Seeing all these damaged parts it might be most economic to buy a new kit
The GPS did come out, granted it didn't go any further than the rest of the pieces but it did come out. I am not worried, I have parts on the way and it will be back out there. Thankfully I had some of the parts here that are needed so the list of parts I needed was not too long. I am not going to be satisfied unless it goes over 70 or bursts into flames trying!

Fortunately I never had a crash like that, the best thing is that your nice body is still there with really minor damages that to me are quite nice, like my Alfa 155 that flow down from the barn and now has some wrinkle on the back. The frame no problem just spare and work! Ciao
Yes, all the car can be rebuilt but the body is the one of a kind piece. It has some character now for sure and it will be back out for another run as soon as I can get it all rebuilt!

Take it as a lesson.. and at least your electronics survived (mostly) and your battery is still in good shape. Could have been much worse! 🔥👀👍
Yeah the expensive bit survived and the parts are on their way here. Not exactly as I had hoped it would go. I did get to come home and run the 3s battery in one of the other kits here so that helped take my mind off the pile of trashed parts!! LOL!

Hey Addam I know how you feel on this one. A one run and done, sorry that happened to you and the MF-01x at least the body is still in great shape and can be used on the next chassis. I will say that the chassis is pretty tough, seems like it broke where most of the weight was placed. I'm pretty sure you could have hit that 60mph mark. I know that you are not done and we will see it back out soon (hopefully) Again sorry for the mishap, take care and best wishes to you and the family.
It was definitely not the morning I had planned to have but if the car was the only loss then it is fine. Much better than hitting on of us at that speed! It was on its way to 60+ when it turned into the worst transformer ever! It will be back and I will get to over 70 in the next runs with it. If I am rebuilding it all might as well stick the fastest stuff in there and let it rip! Take care Al and have a great week!
If its any consolation, you got over twice as fast as me when i cut my losses. I stopped after 1 wrecked shell and 2 steering servos.
Yeah, it is not much fun breaking things and tearing up the body. I purposely got a runner body as i knew this one was going to get banged up by the end of the challenge, wasn't expecting this but it survived! Thankfully the servo is one of the super cheap 4 for $20 ones I have a few of sitting here already. The body and the servo wire was the only thing left holding the front and back halves together!

Quicker probably. I already had the chassis parts, driveshaft and shocks here. Just 3 or 4 things I had to order but they are taking forever to ship. Sadly my LHS only has TT02 kits in stock so no luck there either!

What if you put the chassis and all the plastic parts in a 3D printer program, sent it off to PCB Way and had the whole thing made of 7075 aluminum or some other crazy material? Yo! How cool would that be? Everything, all the gears, everything. That would be a one of for sure. One can dream, right? It would definitely make a cool video. Who knows how much that would cost? Anyway, you'll get 'em next time! Love the videos, man!

It was odd I was trying to gently correct it and it just kept drifting over to its doom. I was quite impressed the whole wheel and wheel nut was imprinted on the post, talk about leaving your mark! Parts are on their way and I will get it back together as soon as I can! I think it will be more like the $65 man rebuild but it will be back! LOL!

LOL!!! Yes, I think it did not pass the side impact test. There were flying colors but it was from the parts flaying off of it! LOL!! Yes, the cars parts are not too bad, the motor and ESC are the expensive bits! Parts are on the way and it will be back out as soon as I can get it stuck back together!

I was quite angry when it happened but I can laugh at it now! The parts have been ordered and once here I will get it all reassembled and back out for another run. Next time at a larger and smoother location with less things to possibly hit!!
It looks like you just broke the thing at the end of the drive shaft.Looks like the drive shaft's fine. At least didn't snap I can't believe you bent that shaft though.
Oh the drive shaft it bent badly. It is bent right where it goes into the side cover are and it wobbles all over the place. I mean it went from 56 to 0 in an instant, I am surprised the pile of useable parts was as big as it was!

I may not be the fastest speed but I think I got the fastest disassembly title so far! I can laugh now but I really wanted to hurl it into the woods behind me and just go home LOL! The parts are on the way and I will be getting it back together as soon as possible! My wife is good at adding in a bit of humor to the crashes!
