    The S1 is just one massive sweet spot.

  • @limbicbits

    My 2 cents: After ckecking out the J-6 (which I found a bit underwhelming) and the T-8 (which was way better) I was curious about the S-1. Having owned several iterations including the original SH-101, I was looking forward to giving the S-1 a try.
    It checked most of the boxes and expansions such as OSC Draw and Chop come really handy when doing sound design. It opens the sonic palette towards metallic and more aggressive sounds. As I already liked the polyphony on the SH-01a a lot, it didn’t come as a surprise that the S-1 convinced me also as a small poly-synth.
    Possible flaws: The size factor can be challenging, but you get used to it. Same with the hidden functions and additional features. But after some hours of working with the unit you’ve internalized most of the short cuts. Of course, that won’t replace dedicated knobs or switches. But nonetheless, I wouldn’t like to miss these extra features.
    In a nutshell: The S-1 is a great sounding little polysynth and extended SH-101 clone which can be run by an internal battery. Price point is fair and it can be a great addition to a small live setup.

    Despite being a modular junkie I love these compact series. Specially the s1 and p6 I mean if you are ok with a bit of menu thing, these little toys become very very legit sound making tools. I couldn’t believe what an amazing drone mashine the s1 can be or what a full fledged granular section the p6 has. Great video

    I’m new to synths & drum machines from the electronic music perspective. I’ve been a live player for my paying gigs on guitar/bass/vocals for 28 years. Picked my S-1 up from a local GC last Thursday. This thing has a lot more to offer than I realized, and I’ve got more to learn. I have the T-8 (I dig it) & the J-6 (Like it more than I love it, but it’s useful). Last night’s hour long jam found me using some of my pre-programmed stuff in the T-8 along with the bass riff in preset 1-14 on the S-1 (pure coincidence that it lined up). Added in a 4 note line on the spot with the J-6 and it was absolutely amazing. Looking forward to creating more with these.

      If you still kept your bass or guitar pedals, especially distortion and reverb pedals, don't sleep on running your synths through them. You can make a 200$ synth sounds like a 2000$ one with a few decent pedals, and get some massive sounds.

    This thing punches harder than i would have expected. This is just the S-1 itself and no other treatments? Nice. Thank you.
    I still have a 'problem' with Roland continuing to use the most primitive display possible. I'm not sure there's a reasonable justification for a user having to see a three-segment LCD and needing to decipher the mixed-case abbreviations. What year is it in Japan?

    A question for the experts.
    *How do I connect devices with built-in sounds
    Directly to a control keyboard that has no sounds?
    *Which cables do I need? And what is the friend why?
    - I have: launchkey 25 mk Novation control keyboard
    and want to connect it for example:
    to CIRCUIT TRACKS.
    Or - for the Roland device / Roland Aira S-1
    and use their sounds.

    I know that you can ‘save patches’ on the S-1 as they are tied in with the patterns. But is there any way to back them up to like a backup file? What I am really wondering is, will there be any way for you (or someone else) to make and sell a custom preset patch pack for this?

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I've just tried that and it's possible by holding "Hold" when switching the unit on. Then copy and paste the backup-folder to your computer and that should (hopefully) do the job.

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say a bit different, especially when using the Envelope for PWM. But it's equally possible that my memory plays tricks on me. The S-1 sounds really good but for SH-101 sounds, I'd most likely stick with the SH-01a as it offers a more authentic experience with the faders. I know, that's not really rational but when it comes to music and creative processes, what is rational, eventually?
