  • Drove to El Yunque on Route 66. I'm sharing some trivia along the way. This trip is roughly about a 40-minute drive from SJU Airport. Note: I pointed out in the video that the Yokahú Tower is the highest point you can go as of September 2018. Any further hiking or driving than the Yocahú Tower is closed to the public. Enjoy the trip :-)

    Tan lindos paisajes que tiene Puerto Rico, y que pena que siempre haya áreas donde el pasto esté tan alto y abandonado y los muros divisores de cemento eternamente sucios 😢

    Driving in Puerto Rico is an experience in itself. There's no roadsigns to let you know a lane ending, an exit coming up, or road markings like this video shows. Most the roads in San Juan had faded markings, stop lights that didn't work or were non existent, or were like 1 1/2 car sized. Somehow, it works for the residents. It was literally fit in where you can get in type vibes

    There’s a Route 66 in Puerto Rico? That’s crazy!

    • @mapnerdo4090

      Yes. Unconfirmed sources say the highway was named after US Route 66 since Puerto Rico had not had a highway PR-66 prior to the construction of the Toll Road near the early 2000's.

      YES. THERE IS A ROUT 66 FROM CAROLINA TO RIO GRANDE PASSES THROUGH CANOVANAS. THERE ARE SEVERAL PAY TOLLS. I KNOW I LIVE RIGHT NEXT TO ROUT 66. WHEN I WAS A SUPERVISOR FOR A SECURITY COMPANY ON ROUT, BACK IN 1996, THE 66 WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. IT REALLY BEGAN IN 1995 WITH THE IDEA TO TRAVEL FROM SAN JUAN TO CONNECT BACK ON TO THE OLD #3 ROAD WHICH IS THE ORIGINAL ROAD TO FAJARDO . THE #3 ROUT HAS A LOT OF LIGHTS, TRAFFIC, AND PEOPLE MAKE LOSTS OF STOPS AND TRAFFIC GETS HEAVY EARLY MORNINGS MONDAY TO FRIDAY GOING TO SAN JUAN AND IN THE AFTERNOON COMING BACK FROM SAN JUAN. BUT YES, WE DO HAVE THE ROUT 66 AND I LOVE TO PLAY THAT SONG SOMETIMES.

    Si DTOP se pusiera las pilas y reparara ésas carreteras sería una delicia manejar. Aquí los carros llegan a la isla temblorosos porque saben que se van a romper sus trenes delanteros y aros y gomas. Una verdadera lástima porque mi país es bello.

    • @mapnerdo4090
      @mapnerdo4090  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A drive on Route 66 will be good and it doesn't go high at all. Less than 100 ft above sea level and the route edges through the mountains as you can see.. Anywhere on the north side of the island along highway 3 in the east and highway 2 anywhere west of San Juan has a plain or a flatter terrain.

      All what you have to do is to feel proud of you if you learnd it. Remember that that spanish is a rich language that change a lot from country to country. We as latinos, are diferent from country to country... Diferent cultures, no matter some of us looks similar but we are not the same, so, our spanish. That is because our mix in our origins. Varies from place to place. So learnd it and then look for the diference. And feel proud of knowing the richiest language in the world.

      @@chelliem1451 Because they push us to learned it. We are originaly and proudly, of course, off being hispanic. We are a diferent culture from the "Americans" ... Before the USA came and took PR, we were Spaniard/puertoricans. We speak spanish and it will be perfect for you if you get curious about learning it.

    I MUST ADD ROUT 66 IS OK, BUT TOO MANY TOLLS FOR THIS ROUT. 5 TO GO AND 5 TO COME NOT COUNTING SOME OF THE EXITS THAT HAVE TOLLS. MAX SPEED IS 65, BUT SOME DO OVER THAT. AT THE END OF 66 YOU RETURN TO THE OLD ROUT FROM SAN JUAN TO FAJARDO WHERE ALL THE LIGHTS ARE AND THE TRAFFIC CAN GET HEFTY SPECIALLY WHEN PEOPLE ARE ON CELL PHONES OR PUTTING ON MAKEUP OR COMBING THEIR HAIR.
