I had a few months previous onsite experience in USA and I took a phone number from there which I brought back to India and used for my discussions. They were ready to sponsor an H1B and let me come. They took a personal interest in me because I had a genuine interest to work in the USA and I said that openly. I was already through the lottery from my previous indian employer, who I had a problem with and I left them. So I went from being jobless in India directly to America. Few years later when working in America the same thing happened with a UK company and here I am settled now. But they called me on my USA number for all the discussions. Seems foreign employers don't prefer calling India numbers? I don't know.
