This Japanese style adventure game is as cool as it gets with demon fusing, zany enemies that look like lawn ornaments and awesome cinematics. Are you looking for an awesome action packed game where you control demons who wield magic in battle while shoot onion people and then slash swamp things with a sword? Yes, here it is. This CGRHD review of Devil Summoner 2 has gameplay footage from Devil Summoner 2 on PS2. Your job is to defend the city from an invasion by a bunch of weirdos. Your best friend is a cat, you work for a detective agency and you can travel to the dark realm and recruit or fight demons. This game is so rad that it's scary. The cinematic cut scenes are creative and very well done and Devil Summoner 2 should pack hours and days and weeks of exciting investigating, demon slaying, magic using, pixie wasting fun. I love these games so much. I wish they would make another Devil Summoner game. I like the Persona series, but they need to stop milking it and look into this series again.

They did a reprint, so the series is available online for $30 each;I ended up ordering both from amazon. I don't care for digital games no matter how cheap unless they're for PC (plus I'm a collector).
They Should port this on the vita? no? or better yet via PSN along with other ps2 megami tensei games Imagine playing Nocturne on your vita
I love this game! It's sadly underated, but I still pop it in the Ps2 even today.

This is out now? Oh man I'll have to buy it the next time I go out. I'm a huge SMT and Persona fan and I knew this was coming out, but I wasn't sure exactly when.

I never played a SMT game before..but this game sold it to me. I LOVE when the camera is preset to a very scenic view. It gives the game a totally different feel.
I liked the first one a lot. This one looks exactly the same to the original.
Also, the giant robot thing is a reference to the first game, where a bunch of demons do in fact form a giant robot.
I love this game. I'm a big Atlus fan and I try to grab up most of their rpgs.
Man I love Raidou. They are so much campier than mainline Shin Megami Tensei, and even Persona (which has pretty dark themes). Best take on the whole demon thing IMO.
so after watching the ENTIRE review...i've come to this conclusion...its an evil, twisted version of pokemon where you catch demons and fight them in a somewhat real-time, RPG like fight system and read peoples minds...or something like that....this looks AWESOME

It's up to personal preference really. Plus this isn't a persona game, it's a Devil Summoner game which is focuses more on the detective side. Persona and Devil Summoner is a spin-off of the Megami Tensei series.

This isn't a Persona game. Is Devil Summoner, part of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Same with Persona.

chaver28 Since you already own a PS1, PS2 and a PSP, you can get the following:
Persona Revelations (PSP)
Persona 2 Innocent Sin (PS1, PSP remake)
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment (PS1, PSN remake)
Persona 3/Persona 3 FES (PS2, I'd recommend FES)
Persona 3 Portable (PSP, smaller than P3FES but you can play as a female protag)
Persona 4 (PS2)
Or you can just emulate all of these on a PC. I'm pretty sure you are capable of that. It will run differently depending on your specs. of course.
This improvement is breathtaking, Raido 1 was slow on action part but this... Jesus Christ it's amazing.
This review makes me realize how much it looks like it's prequel in the beginning.

Dude raidou is my first ever 2d crush lmfaoo. Back when i was in kindergarten age? i always watched my brother play it, it was so interesting and mesmerising. I didn't dare to play it myself cuz i was scared of the monsters and dying lol

It looks like a good game which reminds me of the anime Doomed Megalopolis.

ya i realize what produce means bud lol if thats the case then it was produced before the date there i was just saying it came out in may ha ha it usually gets people going when you correct them or throw something in like that and well it did here, but its just atlus's style of game creation, and if you're a fan of that gameplay and style of game.....Many people dont have a prob with it so i mean does it really matter that EVERYTHING isn't in 3D, to a lot of people that love it....not a chance.
Meh....some game developers choose to do it that way because it is simply a certain style they go with it's not that they couldn't do it in more 3D back grounds they chose not to, and for good reason too because the setting of this game just suits the back grounds that are provided, so really its based on mere choice on Atlus's part and i think they did a good job. Oh and the game actually came out in may of 2009.
@DigitalWebOwner Fair enough but I disagree, not only are the Persona/DevilSummoner/DDS games merely spinoffs of the original SMT series which Nocturne is part of but I believe it has the most mature and least pretentious story, and Shoji Meguro really created a unique sound that he takes parts from for each new game, it's really from Nocturne that everything modern spawned.
@Bigmcd3 Actally in SMT it's more like Michael or Asura, or Yahweh, or Metatron, usually you recruit Satan or Lucifer. I think only Lucifer was a super secret boss in Nocturne, and Satan is the super boss of DDS 2, Megami Tensei however has you face Lucifer, Satan AND Yahweh at the end of the game, (it was on the NES.)
shin megami tensaie's Devil summoner 2 is still an RPG you level your character fight monsters and such, dont know why he saids it isnt. If anything it's a real time action RPG! thats like saying Kingdom Hearts isn't an RPG when it is!? lol good review on the Game over all, i just feel he had the not an RPG thing wrong that's all.
Technically this is the 4th Devil Summoner. The first one was just called Devil Summoner and was for the Sega Saturn/PSX. The 2nd one was called Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers which I do own for my Saturn. (It was also for the PSX). Though it is all in Japanese and was never released stateside. The Third one is Raidou vs. the Souless Army.

It looks like it uses a similar system to the first 3 Resident Evil games. At least in terms of how you move around as a 3D character in a 2D pre-rendered environment.
This game looks kind of cool.
yup so really the core elements of this game make it an RPG because there is a leveling system, if anything its an action RPG, because you free roam in battle rather than take turns.

@heavengalvez You know that most of the movies are in CG in this game.Just you play BLACK or God of War on PS2,that's what you call awesome graphics.
Did you ever import a NTSC PS2 console?If you would really like to play awesome Atlus games I'll say it's worth the investment .

so far I've loved all videos I've seen of Shin Megami Tensei games but I don't know if I have the patience to actually play them

the only downside too this game is that the demons need your mag too use moves i liked it better when they had there own
So its like pokemon, but with demons? Boring! Fusing demons. That will get old after a while, and get repetitive.
Nocturne/Lucifers call IS hard to pickup to. I'm a fan of smt series and this particular game is least stunning for me. I mean there are many frustrating elements that in order to grind pains your mood. Persona/Devil summoner/digital devil saga = win. Nocturne is win but not as much :)
The game looks really cool and the music is so stylish but I'm kind of tired of the fixed camera exploration that is similar to Resident Evil 1,2,3 and Final Fantasy 7,8,9 and pretty sure other PS1 titles although I know ATLUS does great job, maybe I'll give it a try.
True, of course it varies but there are a lot of expensive PS1 games, even as expensive as 299.99 american dollars, can be around the world just the same, so it gets expensive out there, but I was trying to help you understand that other post.
I need this. I just got strange Journy, devil survior and have nocturne in the mail. I seen one collectors ed box at gamestop the other week when I picked up strange journey. Need to get there and pick it up. Damn gamestop only open til 9:00 grrrr. wtf.
sigh, Mark is long overdue for a Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne review. heard it's one of the best Shin Megami Tensei games on the PS2. plus, Dante makes a cameo appearance in the game (and he seems to be a playable character too).

I've played this game before but unfortunately I don't have it! Man it really was a truly great and awesome game. I can't find it at any gamestop though. And I can't buy it online so I'm kind of sad.
atlus is funny al thier shin megami games have deoms and some of them have satan or lucifer as thier final boss . atlus should change thier name to 666 atlus ongoing because you know they kinda demonish
Problem with the 1st was that there was sooooo much bactracking. I was actually more interested in SMT: DS than SMT:Persona 3 just cant keep my self motivated because of that backtracking thing.

Since you picked up on the subject, try reviewing more MegaTen games. I'll eagerly await for Devil Summoner's upcoming 2-pack!.
this reminds me of spectrobes but with demons and the demons act on there own unlike spectrobes where they just stand by youre side and feel more like weapons then party members
i'll give this one a try. i have the first one but it kept making me pass out at random spots. like it was giving away sleep vibes no matter how well rested i am
PS1 games in general. This game specifically is the same price as a PS1 game. That's why, cos of its rarity, it's the same price as a PS1 game on PS2.
Is it just me, or does mark review too many games based off of cover art and title? Which is actually pretty awesome and ends up finding some gems.

@VintageBalderdash Probably not. Also, if it comes with a Jack Frost doll, I'd snatch it up regardless. It's a pretty rare find now-a-days.
Fun fact: The Megami Tensei franchise actually started the whole monster-collecting concept. But in the end Pokemon got all the credits.

If it wasnt for ATLUS and shin megami tensei games i wouldnt own a ps2. With my library of smt games PS2 wont get retired for years.
Why the hell can't Atlus just make a PS3 (with eventual Vita port) HD collection with Nocturne, DDS 1 and 2, and Raidou 1 and 2?

Should try the others as well, but this one seems more fun because of the free form run around during battleness.
Summoner 2 is still a great game, just make sure to put points in ranged or you will be fucked in the end game.
i hope Atlus will continue developing games like Devil Summoner or Persona! All best RPGs i have r from Atlus.

its great =D though TF2 is not having any updates like the pc version but its a great package buy it!,-)
Great game, but have tons of dialogues... For who english is not native language (like me) is much more hard and tedious all this talk. If there was a way to skip dialogues and read a simple synopsis in a "diary of investigation", would be better and more acessible.

This game is on PSN for 8.99 I think. I will be purchasing & playing it all weekend.
this looks a like a more toned down exploration based version of Devil May Cry.
A tad slower than Devil may cry but the experience is much more customizable.
