Taping for Fat Pad Syndrome

  • Taping for fat pad syndrome helps with pain on the bottom of the heel. It is a simple process, only requiring 2-3 pieces of tape. The goal is to use the KT tape/Rock Tape or similar, to push the fat pad on the bottom of the heel together which will help cushion the painful heel. Fat pad syndrome self resolves once the causative factors are minimized: impacts and repetitive force through the heel. While dealing with the symptoms, it is important to cushion the heel with taping for fat pad syndrome, wearing supportive, well cushioned shoes, and limiting time walking or standing barefoot.
    This technique may also help with plantar fasciitis symptoms. Taping for plantar fasciitis involves tape on the bottom of the foot as well but the supporting the heel like we did with fat pad syndrome may also alleviate symptoms of plantar fasciitis. In some cases, patients have multiple causes of their heel pain and will present with both fat pad syndrome and plantar fasciitis.

      Hi! Fat pad syndrome is characterized by pain in bottom of the heel, usually in the center of the heel. It usually is pretty constant pain, as opposed to plantar fasciitis which usually improves somewhat once it’s stretched out. Worse walking barefoot, better with cushioned shoes/heel support.

    This won’t make it worse by adding pressure to the heel?

      No, It pushes the fat pad together to help pad the heel.

      @@Volker109 If the fat pad has thinned out, its much easier to feel the heel bone. That could be what you are feeling.

    Any taping ideas for a lateral fascia tear?

    • @PeakFormHealthCenter
      @PeakFormHealthCenter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tape along the fascia on the bottom, put a small piece across the arch close to the heel. You can try a couple pieces in each of those directions. It can help take the edge off, and you need time to heal and eventually loading the fascia/foot/leg to get the tissue stronger/more supportive. Hope that helps!

      Did a Half Ironman and ran in a new pair of shoes with a much lower heel drop than I was used to (this was well before they really listed what those measurements were and I didn't know anything about that stuff yet). Developed fat pad syndrome, PF, and my calves were messed up. Took me 3 years to fully recover; I got over the fat pad syndrome in about 8 weeks with proper footwear. I also couldn't run at the time due to so much pain in my calves so I am sure that helped.
