  • This is the method that works well for our daughter with nonverbal autism new sign language words to improve her effective communication. She uses modified sign language because of motor skills and because her stimming behaviors could be confused for sign language. This is how to teach sign for nonverbal autism using ABA therapy practices.

    I'm so happy she is learning how to speak with her hands. Whether you're teaching a child new words that they speak with their lips and voice, or if they speak with their motions of hands, to voice their needs and wants, it's all a wonderful gift. Kudos to you parents for taking the time with your daughter. That's so exciting!!! Go CAR!!!

    This is so insightful! My brother has autism and this channel makes me understand him a bit better. I've become closer with him as a result. My parents are similar to you guys, but they don't go out as often because they let my brother kind of get his own way. He hates going outside and is permanently glued to his xbox. I know it's difficult but I wish I could persuade them to introduce him to new environments. He's Abbies age too.

    Love seeing these kind of videos. She is doing so well with her signs ! Quick question my son will learn signs but loose them quickly or more then anything go through his motions of just giving me all the signs he knows versus the one I’m asking for. Did Abbie ever have that problem ? 💙

    • @fatheringautism
      @fatheringautism  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes. It's called scrolling. It is an attempt to communicate but the important thing is to not reinforce it. Find out what he actually wants and take 30 seconds to a minute reteaching the sign while he is actually requesting the item or activity so it's highly reinforcing.

      if hes asking for something you can give him with the wrong sign show him! for example say he wants a drink but he signs candy, bring him over to the candy, sign it back, and verbally ask, this may help him remember the correct signs
