- I love doing themed videos for Halloween and Christmas and this year is no different. I hope you enjoy this super fun reaction with a little bit of backstory for our intro. Today we meet Ru Julia Dolph. Set up by grinch-Julia to react to NANOWAR OF STEEL'S "Valhalleluja" join her in this first time reaction to a new group with a very interesting Christmas song about "IKEA" ?

Odin/Thor is the guest vocal Thomas Winkler, at the time still Angus McFife in Gloryhammer. As with most/all? Nanowar songs it's loaded with references (Guitar techs... Odin's role in Santa Claus myths and so on). My favorite is that "instruction manual" for building a Viking long-boat - in addition to the kit you just bought you need two screwdrivers (flat & cross), a pen, a shield, an axe and beer (so everything else is in the kit). I assume it has to be the same boat we also see in the water later. Also, the area of Sweden IKEA was founded in is known as the Swedish bible-belt because there's a lot of it is small Evangelical churchs which tends to be really into gospel singing. The Christmas dinner at the start is more Italian than Swedish though.
Nanowar is an Italian band, thus the Italian Christmas staples of lasagna and "Trading Places" on the telly.
Yes, the Holy Book if IKEA is the instruction manual for assembling one of their products. The name of the product is in the upper corner in Futhark runes, and if translated is a variant spelling for the drakkar, the Viking dragon-headed longship, which is also what is pictured on the manual above the required tools. So, I would think that the boat we see is indeed the assembled version. And perhaps that's why he's so joyous on seeing it, given how he reacts to the still-boxed Kallax at the end - he knows he doesn't have to put it together.
Well, of course the dinner is Italian: NANOWAR OF STEEL are Italian :-D

Best Christmas song ever, because it reveals the true origin of Santa Claus before it was hijacked by Coca-Cola (he wears red and white for a reason) - Odin. Only Odin's magical, eight-legged horse, Sleipnir, (eight legs, eight reindeer, coincidence? not buying it) could fly all over the world in one night to bring gifts to the good children from the white-bearded All-Father.
Angus McFife (Thomas Winkler) played and sang Odin in this video in his traditional Gloryhammer outfit. NOS lead singers are Carlo Fiaschi (main character) and Rafaello Venditti (Odin's priest). NOS are an Italian parody metal band. They take the piss out of a lot of European metal bands, but they're mostly musically pretty good. The whole Gloryhammer Angus McFife saga(s) are magnificent.
I'm Swedish and I can say that for most Swedes there is very little Christmas in our Yule celebration. Most of what people think are Christmas traditions are actually Yule. The tree, the food, giving presents etc

Fantastic reaction, Ru. Thanks to Julia for letting you do this. Nanowar of Steel are comedy, and they make fun of how seriously many metal bands take themselves. Musically and satirically they are among the best. For most of their 20 year existence, this was merely a very serious hobby, with the musicians having other jobs, like accounting and astrophysics. "Uranus" is delightfully juvenile, "Bestie Di Seitan" is vocally wonderful, and "La Polenta Taragnorack" was written during a livestream with input from their fans.
Uranus is also lyrically brilliant "I'll send my probe, voyeur 2, 19 AUs deep into..."
Voyager 2 passed Uranus at 19AUs from earth haha
@@Wrathlon apparently the Bass player Nanowar of Steel has a Ph.D in Astrophysics so they were probably pretty likely to get some correct facts in the lyrics.

For more marvellous vocals from Angus McFife, I strongly recommend The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee. Which is a song about how Dundee was invaded by unicorns. Believe me, it might sound crazy but it works.

Finally listened to this enough times that I can stop giggling long enough to consume vocal analyses. I got distracted, though, when you said "flappy bits." All I could think was "Say it. You KNOW you want to. SAY it. Say 'Whacka-whacka-whacka!' I'm sure Elizabeth hasn't copyrighted it yet, so is not theft, just HOMAGE [a word that must be uttered in comically haughty tone, of course.]
This was very fun. I enjoyed this reaction and analysis very much. As well as the new Julia delusional personality.
Just a couple of things they replaced the hebrew " Shema Israel, Adonai eloheinu Adonai ehad" (more or less listen Israel , the Lord is our God , the Lord is one) to "Shema yggdrasil (the cosmic tree) Odinai eloheinu Odinai Echad (Odin is our God , Odin is One).
and for non italian speaking the FALEGN-AMEN joke , falegname is the italian word for carpenter.

He sings about systembolaget. Its where you can buy stronger alcohol in Sweden. Its the government who has the monopoly of that. You can get beer up to 3,5% and cider etc in the stores the rest is in systembolaget. And the choir are chanting Ikea furnitures from the Swedish Ikea catalog.

So i was curious and googled Systembolaget
It is a swedish state owned chain of liquor stores that is used as an instrument to assert the swedish policy on alcohol.
It has a monopol over the sale of all alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of more than 3.5% vol (7% proof).
So if you are far away from Systembolaget, you can't buy a drink.
Any wine for Ru Julia Dolf? ;-p

I learnt an important lesson in this reaction: it is very important to know how to use the tongue.... besides that, great and funny song and reaction (and costume), I discovered Nanowar of steel with Norweigean Reggaeton, which you can say by the title it is worth reacting to it too, but when I came to Valhalleluja it became clearly my favourite. I found Nanowar Of Steel, Gloryhammer, (and Feuerschwanz, not here, but I know they do collaborate) all from reaction videos, but I've not explored any of them much yet on my own. The only song to recommend I can think of off the top of my head is Feuerschwanz's cover of Manowar's "Warriors Of The World" featuring Angus McFife.
