  • Beyond Torture documents the persecution of Romanians under the communist regime. You'll hear firsthand stories of the persecution of Romanians under Stalinist communism. Beyond Torture: The Gulag of Pitesti, Romania documents the persecution of Romanians under the communist regime. Electrical shock, hallucinogenic drugs, near starvation and fatal beatings were daily rituals in the prison of Pitesti, Romania. But this sadistic story goes beyond torture: this was an attempt to totally destroy a people's culture and faith. In 1949, Stalinist Soviets began a systematic sweep of Romanian college campuses. Their purpose was to imprison and transform young Romanians into a communistic way of thinking. One prisoner describes this re-education as the most vile tortures imaginable. Orthodox priest Father George Calciu says, They tried to destroy our souls. But he and others survived this gulag, lived to tell their stories and even forgave their captors. In this documentary, you'll meet three survivors from the prison of Pitesti and see shocking paintings that capture the essence of the extreme torture.
    Director: Alan Hartwick
Starring: Fr. Roman Bragg, Fr. George Calciu, Dr. Nicu Ionita

You can tell how beautiful growing up in an Orthodox household is. My parents were not educated, but taught us how we can apply the scriptures in our lives to be non judgemental and compassionate to everyone, friend or foe. Christ was loved more than anything on earth. We were dedicated to do what Christ would do. The icons were not worshipped but respected. The icons were like books, showing and depicting events in the Bible because my parents couldn't read. When they came to America they prayed, fasted a lot and taught us to never ever have a malice tounge, we should have love for everyone regardless of what they did. My parents always told me it is God's job to judge not yours.

I'm not very eloquent with words...but I truly loved this interview. This man was persecuted for his beliefs and it made him so much stronger. He's given me a lot of inspiration to do more.

The persecution of our day is different, yet still with the same objective: separating souls from God. Fr. Roman said it best: Today, Satan is well-perfumed and more elegant. It is violence today, but mass manipulation with the most horrendous instrument being "political correctness" (See "The Saint of the Prisons", pg. 285).

The prayer of the righteous avails much! if God is for you? Who can be against you? He's more than the world against you! We are blessed to be a blessing, we are more than conquerors through Him that loves us! God favors the righteous with good things, those that trust Him, that pursuit Him without fear of opposition, knowing that He's our strong tower, a refuge in times of trouble, we fear Him that can destroy both body and soul! Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, Yes as Christians we are a royal priesthood, a peculiar people, sent to show forth His praises in the midst of adversity! And where sin abounds, grace much more abounds! God bless this man of God! Keep the faith! : )

@@randyhughens5138 Please ask God to guide you to Truth, and not your own experience of western 'choose your own adventure.' There is a Church, as shown in the Book of Acts - people were 'added to the Church' and people were baptised into the Church, and confirmed by the Apostles. Aren't you curious about St Ignatius the God-bearer, disciple of St John the Theologian? The disciples of the Apostles, held and hold the Truth, from generation to generation. God is not a liar, His Church never fell - and it certainly isn't the Catholics.
Its the Orthodox - who survived pagans, muslims, european 'enlightened' people, bolsheviks and communists. Now, you have to decide if you want Truth, or experience.

The earliest Church still exists, and we honor the Incarnation of Christ, the God-Man - fully God, and fully Man - He became fully Man for our salvation, thus matter passes veneration on to the Prototype, which is Christ, which is God.
The original Church which God, Christ established still exists - God is not a liar, His Church was not prevailed over by the gates of Hades. It is the Orthodox Church, and Iconoclasm is a heresy which you can read about St John Damascene on the Holy Images, and St Athanasius the Great, On the Incarnation.
You need to seek Truth, and not experience, and find the One Orthodox Church which still exists.

Judaizing was condemned in the book of Acts, the first counsel of Jerusalem. The bible was canonized by the Orthodox Church, and cannot be separated from the Divine Liturgy and witness of Saints - God is with us, until the end of the ages - Christ is Risen, and He is with us, in His Saints, Living, Acting, until the end of the ages.
Who knew Christ - fully God, and fully Man, closer? You, someone from 200 years ago, 500 years ago, or the Apostles, the Disciples, and their Disciples.
