    Long time Florida cruiser and boater here. The solution to flying and biting insects is a product called Thermacell. I was introduced to it while hunting in Florida swamps and it will absolutely keep bugs away from you under the worst conditions. Much healthier than spraying yourself with chemicals .
    My wife and I love you two, many happy trials and health enjoy your youth.

    Day 2 is always Moving Day! Racing... there is no substitute. Learning curve goes way up. In sailboat racing the start is everything. Understanding the signals and timing is key, but good for you! Kudos for getting out there and hanging. Great communication on Day 3. Sails and $$$ come with the territory in racing. Well done. Beware that racing bug is contagious (but expensive).

    I remember a lot of spinnaker sail repair tape between race days in 2017. The day after the regatta it was talk to Doug Fisher and telling him to make another one just like it. Expensive but a blast. The spinnaker was 6 years old and had been used hard so not unexpected.

    Hey, I subscribed late so I am catching up on all your old videos so sorry for the late comment, but I had to comment on this because I learned to windsurf in Sarasota Bay and used to launch my Hobie 17 at the Sailing Squadron so this brought back great memories from when I used to live there. I went on to kiting and launched at the beach mostly, but I did launch the kite one time from the Sailing Squadron - the windsurfers weren't too happy with me! Happy Sails!

Anyway glad you guys finished all of the races and didn't hurt the boat too bad. Keep the good stuff coming.

    Wow. Good capture of some of the boat/sail handling mistakes especially at 16:45. Oh well. Learn by doing. You avoided what could have been a giant mess by hauling in that spinnaker quickly (before it fell in the water and began dragging and putting pressure on the mast). Luckily you had crew up forward to do that.

  • @johnh.5779
    @johnh.5779 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    At the Skippers Mtg they explain the course layout and starting sequence. They cover the # of fleets with different starts and the starting sequence. For instance, larger boats may start first followed by the next fleet of non spinnaker racers for example. They also explain that “go” for the first fleet may be the 10minute signal until the 2nd fleet starts. Flag down at 6mins to go and new flag up and horn at 5 min. Flag down at 1min then maybe a countdown from 10secs. with horn blasts. It varies race to race and regatta to regatta. Lots of fun unless you are on a boat with a screaming skipper 🙂

    Two things.
    One, the time to reef is the FIRST time you think about it. It will only get harder from then on.
    Two, back when I raced my boat, the ONLY time we were first at the start I looked at the the crew and asked if anyone knew what the course was! Sometimes it's just best to follow.
