    I’m a senior in high school but I’m planning on the pre med track for university. I hope, if I shadow a physician they are just as cool and welcoming as you!

    I’m a second year premed student interested in Dermatology and I just received confirmation of my first shadowing opportunity with a Dermatologist. I’m sort of nervous and doing so much research on what I should do. I hope she’s this warm and welcoming!

      She was very inspirational and how cool that her mom was the first female physician in Micronesia! And yah - Arya does a way better job at outros than I do!

    I appreciate this so much! I’ll be starting pre med in 2021, so it’s so helpful to hear what attendings expect of their students. It makes the whole experience much less intimidating. Thank you, Dr. Wong!

    Good video! I'll be going to college this fall & have been watching A LOT of videos on how to apply yourself to really do well as a pre-med to up your chances of getting accepted into a med school later on and this video did really well at providing me with an insight on what it's like to shadow and what to expect, what to do & what not to do, so thank you!

    Ophthalmology is a very difficult profession.
    That is why helping your own children with life-time prevention, is so important on a scientific level.
    I always dream of Ophthalmologists helping me in that manner.

    im 14 and many people in my family are doctors but they all live in dominican republic which is were i was born , i live in florida now ever since i was 5 since i moved here from dominican republic , i really want to find a doctor to shadow and also i really want to know things i should do as a young kid with the mindset of being a doctor in the future , can you make a video on that!!!!

    • @DrRupaWong
      @DrRupaWong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You still have plenty of time. Wait until the pandemic is under better control just to minimize your risk of exposure. And, then, after, ask friends of your parents, friends from church, anyone who you might have a connection with about shadowing them if they are a physician.

    what are the economics of medicine in Hawaii. I've heard different things but would be insightful to hear what your thoughts were. Is the overall compensation lower vs the mainland even though the cost of living is very high?

    • @DrRupaWong
      @DrRupaWong  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately reimbursements are significantly lower. Medicare reimburses Hawaii physicians at the same pay rate as physicians in central Ohio. As you may know, the cost of living between Ohio and Hawaii is VERY different. Our doctors have tried petitioning for an increase to match Alaska (which gets paid 1.5X hawaii docs) but with no success so far.

      @@DrRupaWong wow that’s awful especially for a specialist. I’m in dental and we can negotiate fee schedule (base on UCR in the area) or else we just opt out. In certain rural or underserved area where there’s no participating provider or specialist, the insurance company would definitely try to work with you on the fee schedule.
