Such good advice at the start- work on your portfolio is THE BEST advice for new illustrators. 99% of clients contact me too, and I put that down to having a wide portfolio that’s available to find. I’m glad it’s this way round too as I find it nerve wracking contacting prospective new clients! Much prefer hiding away and doing the work & letting them find me.
Sometimes I wonder if it's just me being lazy and not wanting to cold email, but it really does seem to work best most of the time. Glad to know I'm not alone in that!
Thank you! It's TERRIBLE in my vlogs and I've only just started using the mic consistently when I do sit downs. It does make a difference, but I often can't be bothered. Need to be more consistent with it. My mic was only like $20 by the way, so it's not fancy!
Hi Kendyll! I remember you were looking for a very opaque white to go over color, and this video demonstrates the Derwent (wax based so blending well with gamsol) pencils, used with this mixture of Touch Up Texture and Colored Pencil Titanium White Powder from brushandpencil.com. If you go to the very end of this artist's video, you can see her layer this on top. She also has another video linked to this one that explains how she uses this white mixture and why (it's archival). These Derwent drawing pencils look intriguing...they're lightfast and have a lot of great tones for portrait and nature work. I know that you're done with the prismas, so thought I would share. I'm loving the few Caran d'Ache, FC watercolor pencils and Polys I have, but I was looking for another wax-based brand that was good for blending and I think I might check these out. There are a few artists on TH-cam that do a lot of animal commissions and swear that these are their favorite brand. They are only in a 24 set of earthy tones, but the brand is coming out with a full set soon. They blend soo nicely. I'm thinking of buying a set:) Here's a link to that artist's video where she uses them for a wildlife drawing. th-cam.com/video/baZEYrYVhzY/w-d-xo.html (It's Lachri:)
Such a informative video! I always love your advice! I finally decided to start my own videos as a freelance illustrator, it would mean so much to me if you could take the time to have a look at them :)

⭐⭐⭐🙏
I want to illustrate things like children's books or comics, what do you recommend to start with?
