Hi! Today we will try to check how 100 dollar studio monitors compare with 150 dollars multimedia speakers and which one is worth Your money. Edifier R1700BT and Presonus E3.5 have quite similar external dimensions but Edifier feels much more study and premium. Additionally Edifier has two usefull features for multimedia users: Bluetooth and remote control. Presonus feels more hollow and resonant in the build quality, especially the front panel is a bit cheap IMO. Feature wise Presonus is not as rich as Edifier, but for the music production crowd it offers balanced inputs as well as headphone output on the front which is nice. Soundwise I think Edifier is better speaker. Starting from the all important bass response, Edifier has deeper and more toneful bass, but it also has some boost in the mid and upper bass ranges which make bass appear even bigger than it really is. Presonus has less depth in its bass but it is also fairly neutral there, which is good news for music production. Going up from bass we come to all important midrange and, all though neither is perfect here, I like Edifier better again. Edifiers midrange feels more full, natural and detailed than midrange in E3.5. Presonus has a bit hollow midrange, especially in lower registers, feels a bit dry and harsh. Both Edifier and Presonus boost upper midrange and lower treble but Edifier seem to be better balanced overall. As a summary let me just say that if You are looking for multimedia speakers and are wondering which of these to choose, than I say go for Edifier as it is worth the extra 50 bucks, not only by the way it sounds but also how it is build and equipped. Presonus is still very soild offer especially for homegrown music producers who are looking for a pair of monitors in this price range. What do You think? Would You choose Edifier or Presonus for You setup? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!
Very good explanation. Drop the Eris in a couple of gallon buckets and all is 4given? I take a cell phone 2Walmart &drop in various vessels 2see which has d best sound. Rectangular megaphone waistbaskets seem2 work thbest. Smaller lightweight speakers with instrumental clarity of upper range like Eris are probably better as bass isn't overpowered in a bucket. U can also employ tubes with reliefs 4stereo effect or 5.1. Surround& etc. Painted black these acousticals can add dramatic appeal when housing an only $100 speaker. And they are "analog vs digital." As is the echo they can also impart. Echo is currently something never addressed in enhancing yr speakers.
Please help me. Can't decide between r1700 and eris 4.5. Listening purposes, not mixing, nor producing. Small to medium living room. I love midrange detail and soundstage, but not at the price of loosing bass depth. I know I can't have it all within this price range, but I don't have the option to listen to the myself. So what do you think is the best compromise? I know yours will be only an opinion, but I can trust at some point someone who has actually listen to both and have experience listening to speakers. Cheers
Presonus does a better job of promoting its products on social media. That's probably why they get hyped so much here on TH-cam. I have a pair of Edifier R1700BT's on one of my computers and Presonus 4.5's on the other. I think both have good sound ... I edit video on both, no music editing, dialog only. I don't think anyone would be unhappy with any of the speakers unless they are listening to the influencers instead of the speakers.
@@TexpatOTG I went with the Edifier. I already have a bigger set of studio monitors and the Edifier provide better connection options and have zero hiss. They are have a very coloured sound, but I'm ok with that since I only want to use them for enjoying music and films. Also, the remote control comes in very handy
@@mctapia12 I'm happy with my Edifiers. My ears probably aren't that discerning at my age. But I like that I can play any of my gadgets through them. Enjoy .. Cheers
Hi, I love having a lot of soundstage and I appreciate the subtle differences (or so I think). I would go with the PreSonus but my fear is that my ears may go tired of the high frequencies after a while. I spend literally hours in front of the computer. Do you think that could happen with the Presonus?
R1700bt: clarity, better imaging, better soundstage, a little bit harsh in the highmid (no problem), better upper bass (kick bass) and sub bass: classical, orchestra, instruments... Eris E3.5: sweeter midrange, more accurate in the tonality, better mid bass (for me), more neutral, better seperation (arrange more layers): overall is good, for all type of sounds (studio monitor).
If all you're doing is listening to music get the Edifier, if you're mixing music get the Presonus. The Edifier will tell you more lies when you're making music
@@mechatoo9557 from my experience 1700bt is extremely mudy, especially if you're watching youtubers that like to have some low shelf eq, it sounds like shit, not bad for music or watching movies
To me, it sounds like the E3.5 does a better job of shedding its enclosure. Edifer sounds like the sound is coming from a box. However, I'd still probably choose Edifer in this comparison because of the hollow bottom end for the E3.5. Put another way, I think it's easier to get used to a speaker sounding a bit boxy than it is to tepid bass.
The e3.5 sounds way more scooped in the lower mids compared to the 1700 which has already scooped lower mids. Just listen to any song with male vocals, youll see. 3:24 They scooped the shit out of the lower mids to give it a false sense of clarity.
The Edifiers have an attractive fuller but muddier sound. The Eris 3.5s are cleaner and better defined with a rounded distinct and powerful bass. I know, I have them.
@@danragones My speakers are attached to a laptop in a small room and primarily used for listening to music of all kinds. The bass is fine for me but almost impossible to assess for somebody else. I bought the speakers primarily for their clean sound, which I prefer, and which can be listened to for long periods without stress. A bigger room, probably a lounge, with the speakers attached to a TV, would definitely need the Eris 4.5s rather than the 3.5s. The Edifier range is very good with generally a brasher more upfront sound, so not for me but would suit others. Best of luck with your purchase.
@@danragones Have just been listening to Papa was a Rolling Stone at two metres. Good thing to listen to for the precise placement of bass within the song. I totally agree, I have both the eris 3.5 and the Edifier 1700BT. This comparison video sounds better through my Eris than the Edifiers. However, the Edifiers are excellent for listening to music in general.

I can't imagine mixing on edifire while i wouldn't recommend you presonus for multimedia purpose as the edifire is warm sounding and cuts out some hash frequencies at around 3~6khz.
Almost switched my order to the Edifier 1700BT, then I noticed two MAJOR faults in Amazon's reviews: 1. Can only be turned on using the remote. You lose the remote, they are done. That's so silly. 2. Bluetooth password is 0000 and Bluetooth CANNOT be turned off!!! WTH ? So if you live in a city, this can be very very annoying as random neighbors can connect to your system anytime. I searched for non BT version but no go. I'll keep my Eris 3.5 order for now.
Both points appear incorrect. I have one and I only use the button on the speaker to turn on/off, not the remote (which is possible too), and Bluetooth only turns on when you enable it (button on speaker or remote). Good speakers for listening to music. Considering to change to Eris 5s for more true sounding mixing/production.
two things: 01. presonus has flat response delivering through quality drivers and sounds open 02. edifire has processed eq with cheap capacitors and sounds hollow

Hi, I am looking for a pair of studio monitors for my home studio to for EDM Production. I am confused between Mackie CR3, Presonus Eris 3.5 and The Edifier R1700BT. I watched many reviews and came to the conclusion that Edifier has most balanced sound, But are they studio monitors ? Or can they be used as studio monitors ? Please help me choose between the three. Thank You :)
Me too. I'm also deciding between these three, the Mackie CR3 is equivalent to US 135 dollars here in Malaysia, Presonus Eris E3.5 (162 dollars), Presonus Eris E4.5 (220 dollars) and the Edifier R1700BT is a much cheaper option at 107 dollars. The R1280T is the cheapest one at 72 dollars. Maybe this is because my country is nearer to China (where Edifier is based). If I was to go with the cheapest one the Edifier is definitely it. But I'm torn between spending more for the Presonus E3.5/E4.5 (double the price) or going for the R1700BT which also has Bluetooth function, and most importantly whether there is a huge difference in accuracy for music mixing which is the most important factor for me. @digitalstereophony

i like the connection options on the edifier over the eris. i enjoy both for sound quality according to your videos. The eris 3.5 seem to have a better balance sound but a lake of bass and the edifier r1280 sound more hifi EQ. Predominant middle for the bd and a gape in the middle for the T.
Both big brother's edifier and eris sound pretty good to me but in different way. A bit afraid by the eris hiss.
What do you think will be the best for the use i will have ?
I will install it in a room aprox 15 square meters so do you think it's really necessary to get over my budget to get an eris 4.5 or a 1700bt ?
Hope to have help from you soon.
Thank you !
The edifier got more emotion than the presonus. Coming from a non audiophile.
Very interesting bass test. Huge disbalance in Edifier. Presonus looks just fantastic, flat, predictable. Interesting.
… The ERIS have a much better Tweeter and the EDIVIER is to loud betw. 3000-5000 Hz. …
Presonus. Rock jazz

edifier are MULTIMEDIA SPEAKERS
and Presonus are bad speakers. Multimedia Wins
Thanks for clarifying that the presonus is worse than a multimedia speaker.
@@AbsoluteFidelity presonus are studio monitor, edifier for multimedia…
@@AbsoluteFidelity but u are right, this model of presonus sucks… I have another model, much better sound
@@Denysniak_UA the e3.5 is a studio monitor wannabe, thats all it is. The 1700 multimedia speaker just shat on e3.5. Even the e4.5 is pretentious af.
1700 win
Can't be used in a city though.. Bluetooth is always on. ALWAYS! The password is 0000 and there is not confirmation needed on the speakers. It's ridiculous
