I recently got to ride my first BMW. My wife decided that she wanted to start riding but she wanted an older, beat up bike so that if it went down she wouldn't feel bad. We found an old 99 f650 with 88k miles on it. What a great bike, now I'm trying to figure out how to get something like it for myself

I'm going back n forth between this XR and the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT...
Add cruise control and a center stand to the XR and it’s perfect! What a cool looking motorcycle, love it!

That XR. My God it presses so many buttons, especially in this white colour. Reminds me of a really popular bike from Yamaha ( at least in Europe ) called TDM900A. Google it in white for matching bonus!

@@parmicrothrix1831 Having driven one, I think it's one of the best all around bikes ever made. I drove the non - ABS version ( a friend owns it ) and it feels absolutely amazing, from around the town stuff to highway driving, to mountain passes. Solid bike
Except the usd forks the tdm900 always needed and 105hp the tdm would have benefited from and 7.1" suspension travel that no other bike in this class has (or ever has had)
Chris Redfield Every bike has it’s flaws. But for the character of the TDM I think it was perfect with just a set of exhaust pipes. It’s no racebike, even though it pulls like a train!
That xr looks like the old triumph tiger 1050 from some angles
I does it's only 10hp and 1 cylinder down on the 1050.
BMW seem to be chasing Triumph with most of their new releases and Triumph is beating them hands down with BANG for your BUCK. The new Triumph Tiger 900 GT would be my choice over this one.
@@michaellilley6725 triumph do seem to have sorted out some of the things i didn't like about the old ones. Welded on foot pegs the 2 H4 headlights. And where the other manufactures have increased weight these tiger 900's are lighter than the 800's previously.
@@chrisredfield3240 Leading the field with electric windshields, faultless up and down quickshifts, electric suspension, reasonable service costs, long service intervals, fold down rear foot pegs, the World's largest capacity production motorcycle ( and it handles). Whilst I appreciate the styling of some of their retro's, I wish they would do a retro version of the 1996-98 Triumph 900 Thunderbird Sport, which in itself was a sort of 70's retro with twin upswept exhausts, a wishbone monoshock rear suspension, wide flat handlebars for great steering control and it had a very distinctive purr when idling and roar when ridden. I wish I had been able to hang on to mine, it really was the most fun you could have on two wheels, it never wavered and attracted attention wherever it went. The only drawback with the modern Triumphs and most other new bikes is the almost silent, built like a smoke stack E5 exhausts and as for the move to electric, to me that is just soul less, expensive and heartless. No throb between the legs, no screaming for a gear change, no indication of just how much torque you are delivering, no range, no noise, just NO!!

Short, but sweet! Nice bike. On my Cruiser, cruise-control is a must - in fact I probably use it more than I really should - but I don't think I'd miss it on a Sport/Adventure bike. It's not like you're bombing down the highway for hundreds of miles at a time on one of those, like you are on a Cruiser/Touring bike. Certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Have a great day. Looks a lot like the Ducati Multistrada. I’m sure it performs similarly.
What a beautiful bike. Thanks for sharing. I currently ride a 2019 S1000XR and 2018 MT09. Maybe a couple years down the road I will trade them both in on one of these! I like the F900XR styling better than the new 2020 S1000XR. Of course, it doesn’t have the motor. Still looks like a sweet bike, though.

Question, in Europe they can detune or remap the bike for their A2 license people over their. I think that brings the HP down to 48. Questions; if a US customer wanted the bike lowered in HP via ....remapping (I'm guessing) can it be done? A new rider might appreciate that. I'm just saying. :)

The guard in the front tire makes it look like a scooter. the rear lights are way too protruding. tail tidy is a must.

You can order cruise control. Its included in the "Touring Package".

I think the European version has a neater back light. I'm sure it's built into the tail not stuck on the mud guard
Not sure how the Euro version is equipped... If different, it probably couldn't pass US DOT approval. The aftermarket will have options available soon I'm sure.

Chris Redfield Legally in Europe the licence plate must extend beyond the rear wheel. I’m sure most owners will fit a tail tidy as soon as one’s available.
@@IanTed think i was looking at pictures of the s1000xr. The US does seem to fit a much larger tail light unit looks like the r1250gs one, in Europe we get a much smaller unit.
Don't know about sexy, but it does seem like a well thought out standard bike. Nice wind protection and passenger area. They should have put a belt on it though.

It's a shame BMW got ride of the belt drive, i would have liked to have seen this with the belt on it. I got my test ride around the 14th Feb here in the UK, but would i give up my 1250 GS for it?

By far the majority of street bikes made do not even offer an option for cruise control. Slowly but surely, the manufacturers are adding it though...

Lol, that's my thinking as well... If you've going to tour on this bike, cruise control is going to be the least of your comfort issues! Harley, Honda and others make some really comfortable touring bikes with cruise, or so I hear....? Lol

So far I found 3 types BMW are using. Michelin Road5, Bridgestone S21 and the Bridgestone T30 EVO
