A beautiful classic tye Davie! Old Mustad hooks, silk, real (metal) tinsel and India capes! I love my Whiting capes but still tie most of my flies with feathers from the dozens India capes that I bought for $2 and $3 each when I started fly tying as a teenager. Nice to see you using "thick thread", I learned to tie when 4/0 was considered "fine" and was taught to plan my thread wraps to minimize bulk - every wrap for a reason. Seems that the super fine threads has made that a lost art as you see fly tying videos where ten-times the amount of wraps needed are used and half a dozen random wraps are thrown in every time the bobbin is touched. Each to their own. Thanks for sharing! Hank
Another nice one Davie 🍺 Just got my self a book called "rivers and lochs of Scotland " by Bruce Sandison and I'm looking forward to trying it out when I get home to Scotland in August.
Great series of flies .. you say they have fished up to 8? amazing.. i looked at the Clyde on google maps.. what beautiful country side. fishing it must be a joy!
Davie, beautiful tye! Don't laugh, but I've had to look up things like what distinguishes a Clyde style fly, the terms blae (blue grey or dun), and hairs lug (ear). Would you be interested in putting together a small series of videos on the characteristics of each differing type of fly (wet vs dry vs nymph, ect, ect), their origins, the differing ways of tying them? Also, how about an exhaustive explanation of materials and tools for all flies; how to use and where to find the materials and tools, ect, ect? Big request, but it's up to an expert like you to pull it off. No one else has done this that I've found. Thanks, Bill
Was watching this one again. At the ending, when you were pointing out the other Clyde style flies you had tied, you mentioned a light March Brown. It looked to be tied with orange silk, but I couldn't make out what the body material is. Would you say, please? Mike
Hi Mike, It's a gold tinsel body tyed with orange silk and then a brown partridge hackle though I've used a grouse feather from the wing which works really well...ATB Davie..
Hi Possum King Productions, It's easier to get a wing like this using the secondary feathers so yes if you have any of these feathers you will certainly get a better result..They are lovely flies to tye and as well very productive as they are still fished today so I'm glad you like them.. All the very best Davie..
David, what other bird feathers could we use in this pattern? Not a bird that I can use on this side of the pond. Fyi I personally miss your materials lists you used too included at the beginning of each new pattern, “Just Saying” Ron
Hi Ron, Most secondary feathers from any birds that you can buy would be good enough for this style of fly, like most Ducks, Woodcock, Crow, Partridge, Grouse, Starling and anything else that you can buy..The secondary feathers are the softest and fold well...I do list the materials on all the flies at the bottom of the video under more info...Let me know how you get on with the feathers you have... All the very best Davie..
Great looking fly mate. You always have great patterns to share with us all. Thank you very much my friend. Look forward to seeing more. I will be tying some of these up for the bookies over here. These puppies will hunt for sure. How small would you go? Best Regards, Ken
Hi Ken, I would be tying then from size 12s down to as far as I could go as they will still fish well, they are great flies with a huge reputation here in certain parts of Scotland..Let me know how you get on with them.. All the very best Davie..
Hello Davie, I would like to make a request if at all possible. A Articulated Fish-Spine fly. I’m having trouble with it. Thank you sir for all your videos.
Hi Hairy The Cat, I've never tyed one myself and I don't have the stuff needed but If I come across them I'll certainly think about tying one... All the very best Davie...
Hi TmE souls, Don't go too far away from tying the flies that fish on your local water as you will catch far more fish and get more enjoyment out of it as I still use them today even with all the flies I tye..Your local shop or members of your fishing club is a good place to start as there's aways a few good tyers wiling to take the time to keep you right.. All the very best Davie
Hi Добрый День, I'm tying these flies on these hooks as they are old and the flies are for a collection, I would normally tye on a modern wet fly hook without a barb or with a very small barb which you get now on most chemically sharpened hooks..I am glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail Hi from Russia . Thanks. I am study the technic of tying , very interesting. My flies "no name" ,but whis my soul. (sorry, I`m don`t speak english)
Thanks for sharing Davie. Your command of thread and material is unparalleled, great tie.

Lovely fly Davie. you make it look so simple. Many thanks for sharing.
Thanks for these Clyde style flies, I would love to see more
Great fly, keep up the great work davie!! Will be tying some of these tomorrow when I wake up
Lovely tying, have been tying for one year now Davie struggling with Bronze mallard wings.
Thanks, Davie! I tied these flies for my fly box. )))
A tip one of the older guys at the tying club i went to was to put float rubbers on your hackle pliers, stops the feather slipping as much.

Again such artful work. Do you think a secondary from a hen would work until I get this folded wing mastered?
