    Now I'm really pissed off! My mechanic years ago charged me over $1200 to lower my 80sc. I wish TH-cam was around back then. One thing great about these informative car videos is that you can research these things now. Thx, love the channel!

    I agree with other comments. Your videos are gr8! The pace, content, length and frequency are very good. Very informative, straight to the point. Besides you have a very good knowledge of multiple generations of the 911… and you approach is DIY with technical knowledge… but I thing you missed something in the video… there was no cameo on your dog… that is baaaaaad!!! (Joking)

      Haha yes, the little piggy (actually her name is Ava) sometimes stays home so she misses out on being on camera. I usually bring her with me pretty much everywhere but on some occasions I need to leave her behind. I miss her when she's not there though

    Do you remember if you had wheel spacers installed? I'm going to be lowering my 79 targa this weekend and I've got 20 mm wheel spacers for the rear and same size wheels as yours Just wondering if there's enough clearance.

    • @drolasgarage632

      That was a while back but I don't think that car had any spacers on it. it had 16x 7" & 8" fuch replicas

    Hi! I recently subscribed to your channel I really like your content and general vibe.
    On the ride height I have often seen guys use the measurement from the fender lip down to the ground as a before and after reference and noticed that you didn’t mention it and just simply eyeballed it.

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. The car looked level from the beginning so I just turned the screws the same amount to get equal drop. Measuring the fenders is not the proper way to measure anyway. Yes, it can give a general idea. But these cars were hand built and there could be slight differences between the two sides. The proper way to measure ride height is with one of the bolts that hold the cross member.

    Thanks brother! Need to drop my front and this looks super easy. Was the back lowered at all?

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's possibly that at some point in the past it had been lowered a little. But before I owned it. I needed to do the front to give it the proper stance and that 1-2 degree rake they always talk about.

    The adjustment made a big difference. Car sits much better. Surprised how quick and easy it was to adjust. Is it the same for the rear? Also, any update on the Boxster? Did the repairs get completed? Can’t say it enough, love your videos. Always anxiously awaiting the next one!

      Thanks for the kind words !! Agreed, looks much better now.
      The Boxster is at the second body shop now. Progressive still playing their silly insurance company games. But I'm not giving in until they make it right.

    Hi man. I would like to hear your take on hans devices and helmets. I know that you go to track days using your hnr system… is it compulsory in FL? What about certifications? And so on…

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not race, I only do DE's/track days. The rules are much more relaxed. In most organizations the hans devices are optional. Only with PBOC Super Solo and PCA (if using harnesses) are required.
      That being said, I do use a hans device. I prefer to use open face helmets since it's hot here in Florida. As long as they are within SA certification you are allowed to use whatever helmet you choose.

    How many turns will I need in your opinion if my front is about three inches from top of tire to bottom of fender? Going to lower it this weekend.

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say. 3" is a lot to come down. Depending on where the bolt is already positioned in the "reverse lever" you may need to take them out and reindex them. First try turning the bolts counterclockwise a few turns and go from there. Always the same amount on both sides. But if you run out of threads you'll need to reindex. Also, lowering that much may make an alignment a necessity.

  • @964Luftballoon

    Didn’t realize it was that “simple” on the older g body cars. I kinda want one now lol

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, g-bodies are very easy to adjust ride height. The rear is a little more complicated but still very doable with basic tools, unless you want to go really low and then you need to reindex the torsion bars which is not fun

    Cool video again. How was your alignment after and when you start to drive it? Any difference?

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. The specs surely changed but not enough to make a noticeable difference. As long as you lower both sides the same amount, the change is the same on both wheels so it should drive the same as before. An alignment would be best, but for now it drives fine so I'm leaving it alone

  • @VcMal

    Hi Drolas, quick question- I was told to do the lowering with a bump steer kit on my car. Is that something optional? Cause your way is a lot easier and efficient. Thanks

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have found that bump steer kits do help but only if you go really low. That being said, the kits are very cheap and easy to install. But then you need an alignment.

    How difficult is it to raise or lower the rear?

    • @drolasgarage632
      @drolasgarage632  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not that difficult if you are just adjusting it within the limits of the spring plate slots.
      You need (from memory as it's been a little while) a shaved down 24mm wrench and a 36mm wrench. The adjustment is made with the two bolts closest to the torsion bar. slide the 24mm between the spring plate and the chassis and loosen the 36mm on the outside. then turn the eccentric to get your height. But before that you need to remove the lower shock bolt and take a measurement of the spring plate angle in its natural state as well as the door sill for comparison. You need to make sure you adjust both sides equally.
      More than that requires removing the torsion bars and that is not fun.
