Summary
Land seismic noise is often confounding!
To address the noise, the industry often just uses the methods of high fold, strong statistical noise attenuation, and prayer. But this fails in some areas for certain geologic objectives. Understanding the noise can improve both acquisition and processing of reflection data. We show the physics of the land noise generation through some fine scale modeling. Using the realistic synthetic data, we test various acquisition and processing approaches.
