But as soon as I played it, I realized it wasn't. I was in a terrible misunderstanding. It is perhaps the most incredible guitar I've seen.; also of divinity! The video is here on TH-cam. I hope this will translate okay if you do not read English. Best Regards
What really elevates this performance is how musical it is. It doesn't feel like a parlor trick, it doesn't feel like guitar calisthenics: it feels like a song despite all of its abstraction, full-tone scales and angular modulations... Ma che cosa incredibile...
I don't think Beat, the fortcoming Crimson-players Belew/Vai/Levin/Carey, will pick this one up. Regretably for us, since Vai would probably be able to play this too after a lot of struggle. Probably. But I doubt as fluently as this one.
I have maintained for years that Fripp was the best guitarist because no one has ever done a good cover of this. The fact you are the ONLY person I have ever seen to pull it off proves it, and elevates you to god-mode. Well done.
When Fripp wrote, played, and recorded "Fracture", he was relatively young. He had a youngish person's finger flexibility. That is no longer true, and no amount of practice or correct technique can entirely compensate for nearly fifty years of slow aging. Maria is still young, and still has that advantage he no longer does. All other things being equal, a piece that has become "impossible" for a 75-year-old man may be only "very difficult" for a woman still in her twenties. Which is not denigrating her accomplishment at all - I'm not sure if anybody else, ever, has successfully and correctly covered "Fracture".
Everyone's perception is very different. For me that look is very sexual, and I found it very interesting that that look appeared in the most powerful part of the song.
Speaking as one who saw the Bruford/Cross/Fripp/Wetton lineup twice, I must say I am far more than a little impressed. The future of music is in good hands.
My god, I’m speechless.. a guitarist myself, a huge, huge KC and Mr. Fripp’s fan for many years, this number being one of my select few most revered and appreciated compositions.. was never able to play it myself no matter how I tried.. Heard many renditions, all of them either nothing more than robotic exercises, or “adapted” to modern guitar styles, either way ending up way too far from the _spirit_ of the original. But yours.. I cried. I literally found myself in tears. Just unbelievable. Thank you so very much Maria! You are wonderful, wonderful musician. You got the _soul_. God bless you, keep your amazing talent shining bright!
The other person who did a very close version was Alex Anthony Faide who Anthony Garone interviewed for his Make Weird Music channel when he was still trying to learn it. Tough, tough piece.
