Hi Brandon. Funny story when this came out I got on the bus to go buy it on a 45pm. When I got there I dithered and changed my mind and bought a reggae song that was out. Got the bus home where my dad was decorating, up a ladder. Told him what i bought and he shook his head, sadly. This is my wonderful stepdad who introduced me to so much great music. I went back out, got the bus, again, changed the record at the store and went home with this. I went straight in and put it on without saying a word. 5 seconds later dad turned on his ladder, a big smile on his face, and gave me thumbs up. Redemption!
@@retroreactions.... He did us proud and still does. Married to my mum 49 years. He is the gift that keeps on giving and we all adore him. He also gave me Led Zep, Sabbath, Peter Green, Free, Yes, The Who (he gave me his original triple vinyl Quadrophenia, which I still have).
Glad you’re into Steely Dan so much . They are just ‘ the best ‘ ! Earlier tune with an irresistible groove and one that is seldom featured , I thoroughly recommend is :- ‘ Your Gold Teeth ‘ from the album ‘ Countdown to Ecstasy ‘ . Kinda fits in well after HD and you are going to love it 👍
Walter(RIP) Becker and Donald Fagan decided to try reggae along with the jazz...safe to say it worked. Besides the usual great musicianship(those guitars ( a wee bit of the " talk box "?)are pleasantly nasty), Donald's vocals are a step above his usual excellence, IMHO. Another glorious piece of the mosaic called " The Royal Scam " album
Another great song from Steely Dan! I love the “Island” vibe you get from it. I haven’t listened to it in awhile…. definitely a great album. Keep ‘em coming buddy! 😊
Hello! This is one of my absolute favorites from Steely Dan.. thank you so much for your fantastic review. I recently discovered your channel and subscribed during my first time viewing. I particularly enjoy your overall style and keen ability to articulate your listening experience to all of us, always choosing such effective words to describe your interpretation. So thank you! I appreciate you and your awesome channel!
Two favourites two days running! I feel I am being spoiled and I love it, lol. 😅 You are spot on, this is an a-typical Steely Dan track. I love everything about it. I can still remember where I was when I heard it for the first time! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The Royal Scam album is shockingly masterful. They were musical artisans and I agree that Donald's voice is ace. Btw if you want to hear Dean Parks play something sublime react to "Visions" by Stevie Wonder. OMG! Soooo, good!
@@retroreactions....I always give my honest reactions as you know. 😉 I regard the "Innervisions" album by Stevie Wonder his best ever. Most of the tracks transition from one to the other and the writing and performance is stellar. On many tracks, Stevie plays all the instruments including drums. But the other musicians he uses are top tier.
Steely Dan is always a good choice…..and this one has a great pseudo-reggae swing to it. Level 42 holds the same niche in my music taste…lots of tasty stuff. Too bad they weren’t more popular in the US.
My favorite Steely Dan song! So quirky, very different from anything else they do. Although they have a lot of songs that are sui generis. Very varied output.
Wow, another lane for Steely- many moods jumbled together in a reggae filled song of scandal!! Thanks for watching! 🥰

Love this track.
One of my favourites from Steely Dan.
Love it. 🎶❤️🎶
"Now we dolly back, now we fade to black" nasty talk box solo........ Soooo Gooood!!! And the Outro. Steely Dan, what more is there to say.
Hi. Such clever lyrics and music here. Yea, Steely Dan is all that needs to be stated, if you know their music. Thanks for tuning in!
This song goes down as smooth as midnight bourbon.
Great analogy!! Thanks

It works wonderfully! Agree with all your points. Enjoy the rest of the day! 🥇
Every time I hear this song, it gets stuck in my head for days afterwards....love it! ❤️
You're welcome LOL....catchy for sure! Thanks so much for stopping by Haley 😊
Walter Becker actually used the talkbox post Park's original performance. Best. Mike.

Yes, very hard not to like SD! You know I shall!! Tomorrow's sounds interesting...🙂

Very mature music. IMO. The different instruments and lyrics. They are singing about divorce for heaven's sake. : ( : )
Adult drama to the max! Happy Tuesday!!
You said that right. Soap opera for sure. 🤣💛🎶🎶
I don't watch those but I would watch this one LOL!
I don't watch those either. LoL🤣An "Island divorce"? Nah I'll just listen to the cool song.
Quite the classic.
Steely Dan, your favorite bands favorite band🔥🤘✌
Fantastic music! Not a bad album ❤️🎶
Agree! Special band for sure...thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of your day!

Haha...it's nice when you love my picks! Can't wait to finish up this album. I will add Visions to my list, thank you!

Wow sounds great. I wonder if we agree on "Overjoyed", my favorite SW song up to this point...
@@retroreactions.... That is not a favourite of mine. Sorry mate.
The "Kalimba" is probably an organ with its percussion setting activated and a pitch drop at the end created I no not how. Best. Mike.

Sweet! Can't wait to here more from them that are in unique lanes. Thanks for watching bud!
I liked the minor key changes and the prominent bass. They've always been 'there' but I never got into them. Couldn't afford them all.
I love Steely Day, but this song is just “meh” in my opinion - really pales compared to a lot of their stuff.
