I recently got my hands on some incredible goodies, including large sheets of Arches watercolor paper for thrilling art challenges. But that's not all! I also acquired Chunky Tinted Graphite, Oil pastels, Flipflop Finetec Metallic watercolors, a delightful vintage color wheel apron, a guillotine paper cutter, and mesmerizing Schmincke metallic powders. In this video, I showcase each item and put them to the test. Watch as I demonstrate the shimmering magic of the metallics on black paper and explore the performance of the other supplies on white paper. Girl, this is why I am so happy I found your channel! Except for the apron, trimmer and XL graphite, I have everything in your haul and I love them. I used to use Fabriano Black Black paper for my Fintecs and DS shimmer paints. That was until I discovered Stonehenge Black and never looked back, lol! You will like the white version as well. The colour shapers (that's what we call the clay shapers in Canada) are perfect for blending pastels (soft and oil). They are perfect for that as well as making shapes/impressions. You will like the Schmincke mica powders. With little water they make a great paste for stencils. You are definitely going to have fun with your haul. Blick is great! Even with the exchange rate and import fees, Blick is worth shopping at from Canada as well. Great prices and selections! Have fun, Denise!

Oh Stink Denise you are killing me with the gold and metallics! Sooo dang pretty!! I love the Finetec Flip-Flop colors way more than the DS. And I NEED some of that fabulous black paper too! I pulled out a whole bunch of the shimmery eyeshadows that come in every stinking eye makeup palette these days (but look terrible on anyone over 40), and I got some really beautiful metallic effects by mixing them into my soft gloss gel, paints, and Powerwax. My favorite, though, was sprinkling them into fluid paints as they were moving around the canvas. Many of the quality eyeshadows are almost made of pure mica anyway, and come in some very pretty nuanced shades.

Fun art haul. One quick suggestion, buy a large rotary cutter rather than the guillotine style. The guillotine style tends to shift large, heavyweight papers and cut crooked. The rotary cutter will save you so much frustration and money.
I actually have a rotary cutter... I need to get it out so I don't forget I have that!! 😊

You can also take a wet brush to the top of those xl graphites (and the charcoals) and use them like paint 😘

I live in nowhere Oklahoma, yet I travel a lot. Especially to Phoenix and SoCal where I have relatives. I am so excited to go to places that have a Blick, or Jerry’s Artarama. Actually every town I go to I look for a local art supply and check it out. I have neither where I live, so getting to go is a treat for me…

those daniel smith watercolours seemed a little disappointing to be honest, but ooooh those graphite blocks are so cool!!
They were different (the daniel smith) and not as vibrant as I thought they would be... but I'm with you on those graphite blocks... definitely a favorite!! 😊
Well....I'm awaiting the arrival today of a pretty significant art haul order of my own. Now....I know I need those Daniel Smith Shimmer colors AND that black paper !!! 😁 May as well just order those graphite sticks too - bwahahaha! @@2lilowlsstudio yes, I get that, being burned out - I’m looking forward to using more of your photography textures and experimenting with more still life shots, maybe in winter. I had a side gig of portrait photography, along with my real job. I got so burned out by the editing and demands of the clients that it became a drag vs. creative outlet. Now that I’ve retired I’m so enjoying the freedom this art creativity provides. You make it all so much fun, no rules, no boundaries, no pressure !!! Just letting go and having fun and you are so talented….I love your god-given gifts and am so grateful to be blessed by you. Thank you!

If I use pastels... I usually always spray the fixative... because on the soft pastels - they shed all the powder forever.... and the oil pastels never seem to really dry without it... I use these: SENNELIER D'Artigny Oil Pastel Fixative - amzn.to/3X9DfMg

CUTTER, i have many types styles buti bought a Carl that is 15 in tall from Amazon i think it was 35.00 its not guillotine but is fantastic for larger papers, even if i want a true 12 x 12.

Since you are enjoying “all that shimmers,” you might want to give Jacquard Pearl Ex powders a try!! They are super versatile and “a must” for mixed media artists. 😜

Can i use regular pastels on watercolor. ? I ordered some oil pastels but have bunches of non oil pastels already. DO i need to seal the oils?
I use soft pastel in lots of videos. They work great on top of watercolor! If you don't seal them - the soft pastels never stop shedding, and the oil pastels never seem to dry. I use these to seal them: SENNELIER D'Artigny Oil Pastel Fixative - amzn.to/3X9DfMg

I love your haul. I would love to see more of the Schmincke Aqua bronze, especially to see how it does with dip pens. Oil pastels are so yummy. Paul Rubens came out with a new set of oil pastels that are very similar to the Sennelier. They even have the same shape. These are different from the ones they came out with before which I didn't like. Love your videos!
I haven't checked out the Paul Rubens... wish they had given me some of those when they gave me some of their watercolors!! I would have loved that. I'll definitely be playing in the Aqua bronze more! Thank you!! 🥰
