Talking about accents - I went over to the US in '99, visiting a music buddy of mine in Kansas City. One day his sister drove me across into Kansas and we visited Weston. We ended up in a bar and she got talking to some locals. They heard my British accent and totally ignored me. Every time I spoke, there was total silence. I couldn't help but laugh. The only guy who acknowledged me was the barman when I ordered a drink, haha I had no idea what the problem was, and neither did she.

They really push that electronic tipping stuff. There's always an option to skip it at the bottom. It's unnecessary but they do it because it pressures people. It's a sales tactic. You'll see it at places you'd never tip before and you'll see crazy high percentages at places where you should tip. That's why I think people have raised the percentage that's normal to tip. It's kind of been accepted by people terrible at math.

Amazing that you're looking after an Afghan family, your fellow Americans could learn a lot from you - it'd be interesting to learn more about your and their experiences without invading their privacy or feeling like you're pimping them out for views. Well done and thank you for caring for others, far too many are just obsessed with the what's in it for me culture 👍

I like Lawrence , he is maybe a little out of touch but most of what he says is still valid . It's interesting to hear your comments too which by and large confirm he's right . The Uk.is tiny by comparison , so it's difficult to comprehend just how big the US .is .Hearing about putting you sockets with the earth ( ground ) pin at the bottom which shows you've thought about safety . It would be interesting to watch a video on the subject as British ( type G) plugs are widely recognised as the safest in the World .

I think Lawrence is best when he's talking about a British perspective on America, and less good when he's teaching Americans about the UK.

Please try to avoid smoking cigarettes in the nonsmoking areas. Control alcohol consumption. Do not complain about the weather. Please wear proper swimming attire (no speedos) 😊

2 planes 3 buildings fell the same way...yeah Americans REALLY need to start "dealing with that". Israeli Larry Silverstein bought all three buildings less than 2 months before 9/11 and had some very odd insurance demands that meant he got double insurance pay out after 9/11 instead of having to empty the buildings for 2 years to have the complete advanced asbestos renovation that had been put on the buildings. That Larry Silverstein day after 9/11 on open cam and microphone said: "we decided to pull it" about building 7 that were not hit by a plane but nevertheless feel with same gravitational speed as WTC 1 and 2 were SO inexplainable that the 9/11 commission simply left building 7 completely out of their report as it had never existed. That the dust samples collected all over Manhattan were crampacked with termite or residue from burned termite are a chapter in itself. Americans really need to wake up from their beauty sleep and face facts!
    Truth shall set you free!
Only a friend will tell you the truth that might hurt to be confronted with. Your enemy will happily stay quiet while you fail.
Last time I visited USA were some time before 9/11 and then I had to wait in line for 3 hours to get through costumes. Never experienced that anywhere else and not precisely what you crave after a long transatlantic flight. Things have got to weird and dystopian.
