Hi Christopher. Thanks for a great question 💯 - Both the shaft and belted RS4s use 1M gearing so, they both technically can be used on either car but, they both use different ratios/gear sizes. So you can use an “evo” style bell and pinions on the belted cars but, you may need to change the pinions to a more suitable gear ratio/tooth count (and viscera) - The shaft cars use a lot bigger spur gears due to the final drive ratio. Some of the parts within the trans can be used on both types of cars. So, not everything is interchangeable but, it’s nice that some parts are. Hope that helps a bit I appreciate you taking the time to write and for watchn’ 🩷

@@a2rc yes they are definitely worth the time. One more question if you don’t mind. Are any of the transmission parts interchangeable especially spur gears?? Thank you for your time it is very much appreciated..
@@mach389 I think what you are asking is, if the different versions of the Nitro RS4s are interchangeable (correct me if aim wrong)? - The short answer is, yes spur gears can be interchanged between versions - The long and maybe more important answer is, it depends. It first comes down to gear ratios and then also, gear version compatibility. - One example is the first version of the 2 speed that came out for the belted RS4s. The 1st gear spur version and one-way bearing is different than the updated “heavy duty” version. You can use the 1st version on a RS4 2 with the updated trans if needed/wanted but, you have to have both the original gear and one-way, as an example The Super, 1/10 RS4 and Nitro Mini can use the “Same” 2 speed transmission but, they may need different gearing. That depending on what you are trying to do with the car and/or attempting to archive the recommended range of gearing for the scale/tire size/final overall gear ratio. Then when talking about the shaft driven RS4 versions (RS4 3 Evo, Evo+,etc), some parts of the transmission are the same as the belted trans. The 2nd gear clutch, clutch bell and 1st gear “gear adaptor” are the same but, the original gearing, shaft bearings, etc are different. - The original gear sizes of the RS4 3 are different because the diffs and overall gear ratio of the drivetrain is different (compared to the belted car). So if you just use “whatever size” you want, the car with “work/roll/drive” but maybe not at its peak performance. So, understanding and thinking about what you want from the car is important when selecting Spur/clutch bell pinions for your car gearing. - It can be a lot to think about but, that’s apart of the fun. Learning about how gearing interacts with overall cars acceleration or top speed or traction, etc is apart of the fun/hobby. - They are truly scaled cars and that’s what I fell in love with so many years ago 🩷
Hi and thanks for the question. - Well yes and no. The 2nd gear clutch, bell and gear adaptor is the same but the shaft, and gears are not (the shaft driven rs4 3 has a different final drive ratio so, the trans uses different gearing). - So, yes some parts can be used but others can’t. So to be fair, I wouldn’t go as far to say that the Evo trans will work in the belted rs4. - Nonetheless, you bring up a good point that a few parts between the version can work on one another. Hi sir i am trying to build a chassis for straight line speed i have both a 2 speed and a robinson racing single gear adapter 52t using a hpi .21 rc pro. Which set up would be faster you think.
It all depends on the power of the engine and the final gear ratio for the car. the 2 speed will help if the engine doesn't have a lot of displacement for low end torque but, the single gear set-up may allow for a taller top gear. Maybe pick the Single gear set-up and get it a try and if that shows you need some bottom end (maybe you dont have enough run way for example) then you can try the 2 speed. - Thanks for the comment and for watchn' ‼

It can be difficult to find parts at times and these awesome vintage cars do fall into the “pay to play” environment but, they are 100% worth it ‼️
- If you have an opportunity to pick up a whole car that’s in good shape for a good price then, I would jump on it. The cost you save on the whole car will help you when you need parts or want to upgrade certain hop-ups. A lot of folks just keep an eye out and grab something when it becomes available. Do it a little at a time so it doesn’t become or feel like a burden
The belted RS4 is still one of the best 1/10 RTR/Club race touring cars. I fell in love with them 25+ years ago and I’m still building and running them today.
- Keep me updated if you decided to start your own adventure with one. Would love to hear about it 💯
@@a2rchey man do you have a like instagram or something I wanna show you what I just picked up and I have couple questions, I feel like you have shit ton experience on these and I wanna get this two speed screaming!
@@alexistorres8825 You can go to my main channel page and can find my email address. Feel free to message me there or you can find me on different FB groups
@@a2rc sounds good I’ll look for it and send you a message, dude if you have Reddit I posted the pictures on nitrorc group never seen one with a silver chassis.
@alexistorres8825 There were a couple different “silver” style/designs made over the years. I can give you some more info once I see which style it is.
U ever think about 3d printing 2 speed gears. ??
Hi and thanks for watchn’ 😁 Yeah I have considered it but, they do not hold well and are not perfectly “round/Concentric” on the shaft due to the printing and curing process. So they provide and “option” but, the stock injection molded gears are the way to go.
Where can I buy one? Have an extra for sale?
Availability and condition does vary but, the best place to look is on eBay
- What part of the world are you in?
Thanks for the question and for watchn’ 🩷
Miami FL.
Can’t seem to find any… I believe it was part #72516
@@dannymontalvo7623 Availability can sometimes be a roller coaster unfortunately
- It is defiantly a hop up worth getting 💯
Bondhus...sounds like Bond-us. Bondhus is here in Monticello, MN 😁
Sorry for the late reply. Missed it when you made it
- Thank you for watchn' and for the comment. Bondhus has made some nice tools over the years! Thanks for letting me know and shout-out to everyone in MN
Thanks! I see Wiha is here too in Monticello, MN and they are building a new big facility as well currently. Just realized.
I have a rs4 1/10 scale and a super ten I built for scratch and both have a 2 speed transmission and I found out that ofna had clutch bells that worked on the hpi 20 years ago 😮😎👍
@@richardbrown6762 Hey Richard 💯 Thanks for the great comment
- Yep you’re right, for example, the OFNA Z10 used some very similar components. It wasn’t a direct clone but, for sure was similar. There are two main OFNA 2 speed transmission versions that can still be used with the RS4 family of cars
Do you still drive your RS4?
Thanks for taking the time to write and for watchn’ 🩷
@@a2rc yes I have both of them all they need is servos and wd 40 to unfreeze the motors one has a oscvr 15 and the other has oscvr 18 you know witch one has what lol both are 50mph cars 😎👍
Shelf queens lol but still in good condition for some parking lot war 😆😆👍
Where can I buy that?
They Harvz. Thanks for the question 💯
- Best place I can direct you is eBay. At times they can be hard to come by (especially in good shape) so, just be patient. I hope you get yourself a hold of one soon.

I found 4 of the 86038 kits on eBay that I should have by the 10th of October.
@@AllInRc1971 Sounds great but, if you ordered them from the miaitto_0 seller, I hope you get them and with no issues
- They have been on eBay for a long while and the seller is very suspect
Let me know if they come in how you expected them too. I of course hope nothing odd happens
Nevertheless, I appreciate you taking the time to write and for watchn’ 🩷
Jealous been looking for a kit
