I use the one for the S2 to bring the toy parachutes with the 3” man on it, bring it up about 200 feet and my grandkids love trying to catch them before they hit the ground. Works great!
I have one for my Phantom 4 and I use it to drape a long string with a 3 oz. sinker over trees. We then can pull up rope to anchor Ham radio wire antennas between two trees. Have placed them over 100' high in our tall pine trees. Great device.
During the height of the pandemic, I used this very system to drop a 16oz. beer on my neighbor's patio table 300 feet away, over 75' trees. This was my Mavic Air 2
Love this channel, product is 4 out of 5 stars. Don't forget to turn on before you take off. Hard to land if ground sensor blocked. I was carring coke cans and oh wow the drama coming down.
It wasn't for the brand used here, but I was shopping payload release systems for my Air 3, and I came across a product video, for what looked to be a completely legit product from a legit company, in which they advertised using it for drug delivery... finally... honesty in advertising! I just wish I could remember the brand!
I bought the Hanatora for my Air 2S, it works great! I use a tube to hold a parachute so it doesn't mess up my flight and it will pull out when I do a drop release. I would also recommend if you use parachutes a fiberglass wire pull rod kit to get any parachutes out of trees!! Great review Russ
I've considered this one too. I can't see paying $200 for the one from Drone Sky Hook, though they offer an integrated flood light (for another $200) This looks like a great value to explore drop systems. 🤔
Cool! I cut my own firewood, and in my dense woods I often get trees hung up, leaning against an adjoining tree. I have a rope with a weight on the end to throw up over a branch to pull the tree free, but my throwing height is limited by my non-MLB throwing ability. :-) This could be the answer. I'd attach a lightweight string or fishing line with a weight/sinker, drop it over a high branch, and use that string to pull my heavy rope over the branch to pull with my 4 wheeler!
being a part 107, I could charge people to take their lines out for them? Maybe a 3 for $10 deal or something, five a pop. Might be worth it for a hundred yard cast
Just ordered a very similar one for the Air 3 but it uses separate feet to gain the height. But they look easy to attach and remove. I'm gonna look for a string or treble hook design next to retrieve items. I made one once for the original Mavic Pro, used a large treble hook. Worked well but some unforeseen things happened, but thats another story. Thanks for the vid.
I stand corrected, it is indeed allowed under Part 107. From part 107; “You also may transport property for compensation or hire within state boundaries provided the drone (including its attached systems), payload, and cargo, weighs less than 55 pounds total and you obey the other flight rules. (Some exceptions apply to Hawaii and the District of Columbia.)” So, start delivering those burgers!
I’ve got one that has two releases, but I could never get more than one of them to work. The second one was basically useless. It only had one sensor to receive a light signal so I don’t know how it could have unless it was supposed to alternate on its own, but it never did. I’m glad a semi didn’t snag your line while your drone was still connected. Lol.
I have the brand that has the snap on legs. Looks like it works the same though. Thanks for showing how to use this. My plan is place antenna wire in my backyard trees.
I have one for my Air 2S. It will send a bush beer can to who ever wants one but that is pretty much its limit. Also I find it does not always release when it should. Using it for fishing I prefer hooking it up further down the line as I use bait to catch fish and the bait gets in the way if I did your way.
I don't know what the utility of this would be, but it would be cool to see someone carry another drone up into the air, power up the second drone, and release it. Or even cooler, carry up an FPV that's sweet to manual mode, release it before applying any thrust, and only give power to the FPV once it starts to fall. Is that covered by care refresh? Haha
Amazing scenery and great footage! I subscribed to see more Videos made by you. Dji Mini 2 is an awesome little drone. I own one myself too and create cinematic Videos. Keep it up bro! 👌🏽
I watched a YT video once where a fisherman does this for trout fishing a stream where casting is a pain. If he would've got close enough to cast, he would spook the trout.
Wow ! You said the instructions state not to use a long line ✅ you did that. You’re fishing from your driveway kind takes away from the experience, can’t believe it. Next you should deliver some tube socks to ken heron I’m sure he would really appreciate that. Good job. Ever watch moonshiners they used a mini 2 to spy on their competitors seemed a bit shady, but I guess everything they do is.
BEWARE. We forgot to turn on the mechanism and had to bring down the payload. On the way down the wind blew the item in to props and crashed. It works great as mentioned but I feel I needed to share the story. Now our Mavic 3 pro is in need of major repair.
Different subject here (sorry), you’re good with rules and remote I’d is coming soon. I have only seen 1 module available to attach to your drone and it’s $400‼️‼️‼️. Are they kidding us❓ Anyway, if you know of any alternatives a video on the subject might be a great idea. Just a thought.
Wow, Russ, now this is a handy little addition for a drone. I had to laugh when you had you Mavic 3 across the street and you said about reeling it in, hook Up!😂😂. I’ll be checking into these drop systems for one of my drones. Thank You, for your well presented video 👏👏
Do you think the travel height and distance is affected by the payload? I wonder if I could deliver a pizza with box which would be about 400 grams to friends in the near area, let's say 1-2 kilometers and needed height will be about 50 meters max.
Sweet video...now if they could design one that has a claw to pick up..like at the arcade. I have used the smaller drop unit on the Mini 2. It drops via remote , yet it's not how far..yet where you can drop at..some fishing spots are around a area just around the bend. Comes in handy. Almost picked up a Swellpro fishing drone yet will probably wait til I move back to the west coast. It would be sweet to be able to land in water yet not sure of the clip on fish finder. Some of the features these drones have just in the last seven years since starting is like...wow. Have a great day!
I love trying new things with my toys as well. Thinking of tieng the x3 with dive case on the fishing line and dropping that way out...the footage should be....Deep..lol.
That's a pretty expensive casting device. Would be good for the drone seeing the reef or fresh water spot to drop. Drone needs a spin casting setting so the drone instantly returns and lands after a drop.
My mavic 3 cine had software glitch, plummeted into ocean, line broke, 5k drone gone, DJI is not taking responsibility, blaming pilot error, they stated "its not allowed to carry any weight with it" i carried less than 100 grams of weight, some how drone thought i was on land and black box data showed it forced landing, but it didnt show on my rc controller any forced landing, it just changed its flight into vertical trajectory and spirallled down
You say the line broke... must have got cut by the props. I would say that is not a software glitch. When you have a light weight "100 grams" swinging on a line, and come to an abrupt stop, then the weight you are carrying can flip up into your props. Sorry to hear you lost your drone.
Is it even possible for a small business owner to obtain a part 135 to do drone delivery? I thought they were only authorizing that certification to big companies at the moment.
Hi. Can anyone suggest a FPV drone that has (or can be fitted with) a carry and release system that's about the size of an Avata 2? I need something that's fun like a Avata, but it only needs to carry the weight of a fish hook. Any suggestions are appreciated.
It would be difficult to deliver a burger with the drone if you have to have line of sight all the time. You might as well just go pick it up. Unless of course you're the one doing the cooking. I thought a fun thing might be too have somebody else fly the drone while you have your fishing line hooked up to it and you can pretend to reel it in hahaha

Rope is pretty heavy, I don't know if the drone could carry a long length of rope. You would need to start with a long fishing line first, pull that over and across and have that tied to a very thin rope, pulled over and across, and then have that tied to your final rope to pull across. All that could take quite a bit longer than a line gun, but the drone might have it's advantages.
@@DanielCrist I didn’t suggest the drone would carry the working rope, only the light line that would be used to span the expanse and then pull the heavier work rope across the expanse. That’s how a line gun works but a drone would be more accurate and could cover a broader expanse.
@@waymor2460 yeah, but the drone wouldn't even be able to carry a light rope I don't think, it would have to start with a fishing line and work it's way up through several different rope thickness. Whereas a rope thrower, the ones I've seen launch a rope that's already 3-5mm thick, and they can go directly to tying the main rescue line, so it's just faster.
@@DanielCrist I’m not familiar with a rope thrower. A line gun shoots a rod attached to a spool of twine from a shot gun. In my experience it can be inaccurate because of distance, wind, and the weight of the twine. In the right conditions a commercial drone could do the same but with more accuracy and may avoid needing multiple shots from the line gun.
This type will work as far as the drone will work. As he said in the video, it mounts a light sensor under your auxiliary light, and therefore uses your drones auxiliary light as the switch to activate the release. As long as you have a signal and can control the drone, you can activate the release mechanism. Other types use their own remote button with a little antenna to activate the switch, those types only work up to 100 meters or something. But this type will work as far as you can fly your drone. Sadly the Mini 3 Pro doesn't have an auxiliary light that you can control, so this type isn't an option for that drone, but for the Mavic 2, 3, and Air 2, and Air 2S, you are all systems go.
@@JonR35 so you already know the answer then. If your aux light control is unreliable at that distance, then the payload release would also be unreliable. But if the aux light is unreliable at that distance, then your flight controls should be equally unreliable. In reality this should function reliably for as far as your drone can be reliably piloted. The only thing that could potentially cause interference would be light-leaks, which would be unrelated to distance, but could be solved by making a secure seal around the light and light sensor with black electrical tape or similar.
Fly your fishing line out hundreds of yards? The fishing laws would have a hayday with that over here in Canada. I guess because of boats and PWC driving by... This unit is almost as cheesy as the Floats. lol I don't know if people get bored of flying their drones. In less they bought their drones for all the wrong reasons. We use our drones for video and photos. Imagine hooking this device up. Having to start up your drone. Hook up your line. Take off. Fly your drone 100's of yards. Drop the line. Fly the drone back. Land the drone. Wind your fishing line in ...Just to do it all over again. lmao
Hey, Russ, question. Can you use this to transport drugs across your local prison wall? I watch too much, Ken Heron! Actually this is super cool. I was looking at another one like this, but honestly I think this one is so much cooler. The other you have to cycle a few times to line up the plastic part so it is straight up and holds whatever you're using your drone to carry. I have one for my Air 2s, but I think this time I want to try this one! It seems so much better. Thank you so much, Russ! I love how this system uses a light sensor to activate the release mechanism. Brilliant idea!
People have made them but it's a pain to make all that and the remotes suck so this will be the best method for sure
The reason for the short lanyard is due to the pendulum effect of a long one. It will make the drone more unstable, especially in the wind.

@@DanielCristi love how it works, but i have sjrc f22 😢 how
It's too bad the product has the landing 'skids' only on the Mavic 3 version.
Wind your fishing line in ...Just to do it all over again. lmao
The idea would be to get the bait out where the fish are in deeper water.
I have a minn 2 i want a payload for a dji minni 2.
Comments help the algorithm.
I am getting my new Mavic 3 Classic I hope tomorrow and this would be a nice add on.
Hmmm, it appears you caught a flying fish! 🤔
