I feel like this special might've been better if DreamWorks themselves made it instead of their television division. Not that the budgeted animation is bad, but it just doesn’t really work with a movie as stylized as The Bad Guys :/
@@kittykittybangbang9367Ngl the only good ones I remember watching were the Penguins and Captain underpants shows. The rest I haven’t seen or were just plain bad
I kind of agree the characters were truly the only saving graces to this special. There’s a good saying out there that if you make fun and engaging characters and put them anywhere they’ll still be entertaining to watch. But man everything else was just, not good man. The animation I knew was going to be an obvious downgrade but Yeesh, these wonderfully designed characters just don’t work in these Wii game looking graphics. Their movements are almost robotic and have specific steps to them like they’re from early 321 Penguins of all things. Even the plot and central conflict was second nature and pathetic. Even if my opinions have somewhat shifted all over the place about the original film, I can’t act like I’m not going to check out the supposed series when it drops. I’m just not gonna hold my breath on it being as good as what came before
I’ve have said this before if you can’t replicate the first movies animation because of a big budget I would recommend doing 2D That’s what Captain Underpants and Tangled the Series did.
This is supposed to be kind of a pilot for a series? Ouch, that's not a good sign at all, and it just gets worse knowing how lackluster DreamWorks spin off series tend to be. Also, 9:31 I've never thought someone would struggle building HG kits outside big stuff like the 1/550 dendrobium, let alone SD kits. Maybe try some entry grades, those at least don't require nippers and are as cheap as an SD (at least in my country) Edit: 13:30 Being a western Zootopia fan is pain...
Thanks for the kit recommendation. The biggest issue for me was that it was a pain to pull off certain pieces if I made a mistake. I was worried that I'd break it.
@@theliondogshow1928 I understand that fear too well, I already broke a piece once by cutting it with the nipper in a non gundam kit (HG L-Gaim if you're interested), and it was a fucking pain, I managed to fix it by gluing parts of the plastic frame of the pieces because thankfully it was just a thin somewhat U shaped piece.
When that special first came out, I looked at it and it was like this looks nothing like the movie because the way it looked. I never watched it, but I’m kinda glad I never watched it now.
IMO, the special would’ve been way more enjoyable if it took full advantage of being a prequel and was basically just a dark comedy akin to a kid-friendly version of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia or Arrested Development about a bunch of assholes that are all terrible people in their own unique ways whose plans blow up in their faces and who perpetually dig themselves deeper in their attempts to fix whatever problem they're going through. Maybe the plot could have been about them angering some mob boss or crime lord for one reason or another and then spending the rest of the special scrambling to either win a bet against him or pay him back by Christmas Eve/Christmas Day under the threat of death. I don’t know, that just sounds way more fun and interesting than a cliche “saving Christmas” plot and if you’re making a prequel about a bunch of terrible people who won’t find redemption until the events of the actual movie, I don’t see why you wouldn’t just go full throttle and have them be as awful as possible.

Bro the downgrade in animation was so much 😭
This special is just a pilot for a potential spinoff series for Netflix, just great 😒😒😒
Considering DreamWorks is reputation with lackluster spin-off cartoons based on their films, I don't have high hopes for the spin-off.

can we just agree that the holyday special didnt happen. And that we DO NOT want a tv show thats a prequal to the story.
plus the characters were written so cringy. Some stuff that Wolf says in the special is down right killing my brain
The Satan mech looks like the Death Egg Robot

What website were the casting docs of The Bad Guys leaked?
