for sure agree but here in california there has been a major shortage. To get the dry ice pellets required for the dry ice blaster its over a month backordered sadly.
I think it is probably a mistake to not rebuild that engine while its out. Also would love to see a collaboration wit PFI Speed. Brent has owned a NSX for years and probably could help source parts as well.
30k for a NSX is a steal! I'd love for a cost breakdown at the end. Rebuilding a car is never cheap but I think it would be great to see how much money and work goes into a build like this
Parts are not cheap for this car. Like he said finding a black interior is hard. He’s gonna have a great car when he’s done and probably will make money on it when he sells it
Looks good! I’m a little worried about the piston rings/ bearings, but I hope it all checks out!! Seems like a parts washer might also be a good investment!
Something I recommend you to take a look at, is these cars have an individual throttle body flaps that get loose overtime. If the flaps get lose the screw might fall out and damage fall into your engine. Since you already have everything out. You might want to make sure those are torqued to spec!
The hardened gooey runs are from the ckp sensor behind the cam gear. The potty compound melts and exposes the electronics of the sensor. It’s common thing. I have an acura legend and they share similarities and this is one of them. They all do that and it’s nothing to worry about. Those sensor hardly ever fail.
Tj so sick your restoring the NSX its such an iconic jdm legend and needs to be instead of rotting into the ground i know with your eye for style and with you and your team its gonna come out incredible so glad to see such a legend be put back on the roads keep up the great work 👍
love this nsx restoration! should look into adding Spoon Rigid collars to subframe, it'll stiffen the subframe by removing the factory gaps of subframe bolts, cheap too ($400 bucks). There's a specialty NSX shop in Orange County, CA called AUTOWAVE HONDA & ACURA SPECIALISTS that you can probably pick their brain on anything.
crazy how people always got something say about what ya do. man you guys know what your doing, you definitely got a great crew. Love your videos keep up all these great builds.
So good watching men working on such a cool project. I know nothing about engines, etc, but this thing is going to be fantastic when you all complete it.
I so hope this gets supercharged, the nsx has ALWAYS needed more power for how insane it looks. I saw one zooming through toronto back in like 2004, bright red.
Love this TJ ! I returned back to your channel cause of this. I never stopped, just grew up and had kids but this is by far the most excited i’ve been for you since 2016 (18 y/o me) religiously watching your channel. & now @26 excited like day one of finding and supporting the channel.
You have the best NSX color, please if you repaint it keep that same color (Brooklands Green) - it's just awesome. Paint the roof black for good measure too :)
Diablo is such a pain. Seen a damaged Diablo GT in the works, nothing of the fibre parts fits together. Also the wiring looked as crazy as on this NSX. If you want to have the colour look nice & the same, you have to prepaint the whole car in white first, before giving it the yelllow coat. Engine is the easier part, when serviced correctly. Sounds & looks great for sure!
This is the first time in a long time that i didn't want the video to end. I can't wait for the next video! This might be my favorite build of all time!
The YT channel WD Detailing did a video on an NSX and mentioned swapping to the black interior. It has some MINT tan leather seats you might be interested in. Dunno if the owner would be willing to part with them but worth an ask imo.
Fun content! Love that a nsx is being saved! With the engine out, check the intake air bypass fasteners. They tend to become loose and can cause catastrophic engine failure. Also would recommend installing a crankshaft damper pulley shield. This will also prevent the pulley cutting into your belt cover and possible timing belt damage.
Instead of finding black interior pieces, I’m sure you could find carbon fiber ones. Way more expensive but I feel like that would be easier to get than oem black pieces
You should definitely coat the aluminum you blasted in something like alodine or even just some kind of paint coating that will keep it from corroding again. It will rust even easier now that it's been blasted with abrasive media.
The black "drool" you found and thought was a gasket is crank angle sensor potting. It's probably not ideal, but it's perfectly normal and not even indicative of a problem. Pretty much all NSX will have this happen at some point but it doesn't seem to impact the function of the CAS or how the motor runs, etc. No need to replace unless there's some symptom that can be traced back to an errant sensor. GL with the rest of the reconditioning.
I'm new to the channel, the NSX rebuild brought me here. Great videos, great attitude and also: I love your guys sense of humor. Thoroughly enjoying the content! Love from The Netherlands.
I absolutely cannot wait to see the finish on this build! I loved this car as a kid and always thought I would own one…however…but yea, love the channel and I am super excited to see how this turns out!
love this channel its more then just the cars you guys make it great i find myself laughing and enjoying the episodes all the time also learning at the same time
Absolute love watching this. You guys are so funny, it’s like a comedy sketch but the work you guys carry out is of such a high standard. Keep up the great work!
That paint is pretty cool. I had my Prelude valve cover powder coated red because I didn’t think paint would look good but now I know. I had two done at the same time because I have a spare engine.
when you come across engines or engine bays saturated in grease, oil, road grime oven cleaner is the best thing I've found besides using mineral spirits and a siphon gun, which I highly dont recommend. Using the oven cleaner and a nylon bristle brush and nylon bristle paint brush for the detailed spaces, then once everything is agitated pressure wash it. leaves valve covers, heads, and suspension components like new. If you still got some spots reapply and agitate.
Put some cheap oil and filter. Add some oil cleaning additive and run for 20 min then drain. Do that a couple times to get the grime out and then some good oil and Honda filter. Kind of expensive but worth it for such a legendary car. Plus it’s cheap insurance relative to a rebuild.
The leaking tar is from the crank/cyl sensor. It is normal to happen and rarely fail. You want to check for the butterfly valves in the intake manifolds. The locking screw can sometimes become loose and go into the cylinder.
I love watching these rescue videos. Watching an rx8 ine frim Gears and gasoline, your nsx, a few guys who bought wrecked super cars. Its kinda therapeutic to see them rebuilt and put back on the road. To me it wouldnt matter the car, but I'd like to see more of these!
tj i recommend coating the subframe and all the party you sand blasted with some kind of paint or etch primer so that it doesn't corrode, with it sand blasted the parts become more likely to corrode
Its funny watching this as someone who normally works on 60-70s cars. this looks pretty good compared to a lot of things I've seen haha! Cant wait to see it all cleaned up though!
Yes TJ you got a great deal for sure! Salvage title non running NSX can sell for over $30k. I sold my 93 this past summer for $65k with 73,000 miles. Ivory interior I think was a rare combo. I don’t think tan was rare.
The black stuff dripping on the inner timing covers is from the cam sensors behind the gears getting hot and melting. The odd thing is it’s totally normal on these engines and they will be 100% ok and don’t need to be replaced 👍🏻
Don't forget to check the intake butterfly screws, swap the LMA's (typewriter sound when running), ignition switch and main relay commonly go out as well.
So awesome. Been watching since Miley and I’m more excited for this build than almost any other. The 458 might take it. You should definitely supercharge the NSX! I think it’ll be the best bang for the buck and still make all the sounds it should. Love what you guys are doing keep up the great content!! Much love from Oklahoma!
Once that aluminum is sanded it strips the anodized barrier and makes it easy for corrosion to get into the aluminum causing the intergranular corrosion which is hard to see until it’s to late.
Tj, I absolutely LOVE this build! And I also agree, do not dye the interior, that’s cheap and messy IMO, also 30k for a running nsx IS CHEAP, these cars go for 80-120k easy. Would love to see- big breaks, suspension, wheels, cams, cam gears, exhaust and ext. keep up the great work!
Thank you guys, I really want to say your friendship and antics remind my wife and I of Grant Imahara (RIP Legend) and Tori Belleci from Mythbusters. 😂😢
New to the channel, this is such a cool car to see rebuilt I have never seen one in person will be waiting on the next uploads and cant wait to see the car finished
$30,000.....is crazy cheap for the car you bought. At 7:00 when your guy said y'all were thinking that maybe it got too hot and maybe a gasket failed. It looked like oil was leaking out of the end of the cam. If the head is cracked, you will probably need $15,000 for a replacement set of the heads.....adding a bit more cost but still.....it was a great deal
Definitely dry ice cleaning is the better way to go. Non abrasive and no secondary waste
Agreed 👍
Definitely the machine though is a $10k minimum so like 10x the expense..not that TJ cant afford it😂
They have laser cleaners now bra 😂😂😂
@@ryanm4319there’s places in his area though that offer the service though.
for sure agree but here in california there has been a major shortage. To get the dry ice pellets required for the dry ice blaster its over a month backordered sadly.

only thing i have to say. content. if it blows, content, if it doesnt blow. even more content of rebuilding it just because
exactly what i was thinking
So hyped for this junkyard NSX come up
Been waiting all week!
same here haha @@gman8271
Also I owned an NSX for years do not rubble or media blast the hardware they are coated with an anti corrosion coated to prevent electolitic corrosion
30k for a NSX is a steal! I'd love for a cost breakdown at the end. Rebuilding a car is never cheap but I think it would be great to see how much money and work goes into a build like this
Will definitely do this once we are finished!
Bunch of smooth brains if TJ had to explain the steal he got!
damn 8 years ago the "normal" price for a NSX was around 40 in Europe.
Parts are not cheap for this car. Like he said finding a black interior is hard. He’s gonna have a great car when he’s done and probably will make money on it when he sells it
@@liftedlegacy4749 no these nsx werent going for $90K back before the pandemic hell back in 2009 my uncle bought one from an Auction for $15k
Really liking this series. Love to see the cars go from such a rough find to what it'll eventually be
Looks good! I’m a little worried about the piston rings/ bearings, but I hope it all checks out!!
Seems like a parts washer might also be a good investment!
I like the overspray on the building and window. Nice touch
Something I recommend you to take a look at, is these cars have an individual throttle body flaps that get loose overtime. If the flaps get lose the screw might fall out and damage fall into your engine. Since you already have everything out. You might want to make sure those are torqued to spec!
Hands down best build videos so far. Great editing and great work. Can't wait to see more

Haha just saw one last week in Burlington. Nice winter beater
I’m 3 episodes in. Your show is addicting. One of my best YT finds
Perfect build video, if the whole series is this informative and entertaining, od be so happy
Love this TJ ! I returned back to your channel cause of this. I never stopped, just grew up and had kids but this is by far the most excited i’ve been for you since 2016 (18 y/o me) religiously watching your channel.

This video is exactly what I was hoping I’d see when I opened up the app. ‘Preciate you and the gang, Teej
Loving all the 90s supercar builds going on at the moment - NSX, F355, hope someone else gets their hands on a Diablo next. Great vid!
Diablo is such a pain. Seen a damaged Diablo GT in the works, nothing of the fibre parts fits together. Also the wiring looked as crazy as on this NSX. Awesome seeing TJ hands on again! And I’m happy to see the tan interior stay.

This build is going amazing. I wish the vids was longer
The best types of series are definitely restoration series!😮💨👌🏽
I’m so hyped for this thing!! Can’t wait for this thing to get the good ol tj touch 👍😩
For a man who never misses on producing top teir custom cars. I’m happy you got a 90s legend.

i’ve not watched a TJ video in a little while just due to being busy so i’m on a huge catch up and the vibes of just guys being dudes is unmatched
This project is gonna be interesting!
One of the most entertaining videos of the year so far. congrats gentlemen enjoying the content

Awesome work, guys! Looking forward to the next one!
why not dry ice blasting?
great content and back to the great story line editing, great job honestly we need more of this well documneted builds
Love how detailed this build is getting. Can't wait to see the outcome.
Super Hyped up for this rebuild. I'm so glad you're giving this NSX the TLC it truly deserves!
TJ Hunt Awesome Video I'm glad your Acura NSXs Engine is cleaned up and ready to be put back in and I can't wait to see more progress
Love that you guys are doing stuff in house, makes the build go faster and way more interesting. Keep it up

When I saw the tan, the first thought was that it was going. Please, please, keep the tan interior! Looks so good on the green!
The tan interior to the green car color is awsome...ooks premium that way and makes the car paint pops even moore!!👌
Your one of the best TH-camr when it comes on to rebuild episodes your concesten with your contents

Love watching these rebuilds....
The "Negative RAW" color CALIPERS are sick, with some BLACK Rims! I'm day dreamin a build like this! Awesome Videos

Glad to see some PPE being used, LOL. Looks good so far. Keep up the DIY stuff.
Never knew I’d have so much interest in an nsx. Good stuff!
You’re building one of my dream cars this series is amazing bro . Good sh*t to you and your team ! 🐐
Don't forget to check the intake butterfly screws, swap the LMA's (typewriter sound when running), ignition switch and main relay commonly go out as well.
it is stunning the difference on the cleaning of the engine. Might have to invest in a sand blaster for my future tools.

Green exterior with a tan interior is awsome
7:18 + absolutely on point with your assessments.
The spray bottle first person cam was crazy, but then a BRUSH first person cam? Next level bro.
Love this series, can’t wait to se the end result.

Thats a lot of media blasting. Nice work so far guys!!

The best cleaner you can use is pure mineral spirits. Dries clean! Great car!!!
Tj I promise you I’ve been wantin you to do a nsx for years. Ik your gonna put a crazy touch on it and it’s gonna be fun through the whole thing
Are we not gonna acknowledge Dillon’s shooting form love it!!
Thank you guys, I really want to say your friendship and antics remind my wife and I of Grant Imahara (RIP Legend) and Tori Belleci from Mythbusters. 😂😢
