    Your small station has better fire engine than almost any major fire station in my country (Bulgaria) - I am impressed how your government cares about wildland fires.

      ***** wood = money and they know it, the difference is that the government still owns most of the wood where he is, and im guessing that in Bulgaria its privately owned?

      Fire services provide more than just firefighting, they are an integral part of a community's Civil Defense - active in fire of course, but also in storm and flood, car accidents, cliff rescue...and in many cases, paramedic trained crew who can save a life.

      Stefan Wolf it's because america is a nation that revolves around a zionist ideology of "central bank = survival" (which is a lie) but they want money america does nothing for free and wood is money......etc

  • @rleslie845

    What a great engine. Should sure kick-ass at a fire scene. Cracked tank is a major issue. Hopefully it's repairable.
    I've got an '84 class A engine. Have a lot of fun working on it. It's always ready to go. My class A foam is laundry detergent mixed with phosphate (poor man's Phos-Chek.) Neighbor never had much interest in my engine until her sisters' house burned down. Now a lot of interest. Amazes me more people don't have their own fire truck.
    Thanks for the tour.

  • @mndew620

    First of all not sure who told you it was ok to put your bunker gear and fuel in the same compartment. Good luck with that. 26 years in fire service and a state fire instructor makes it hard for me to believe that this station is maintained just for one person. If there are others that run out of this station I would like to think that you would show a little brotherhood spirit and mention them.

    Man, you seem to have such an incredibly diverse set of skills. Perhaps you've talked about it in a previous video but if not, you should do a video on how you came to acquire them all. I'd love to hear some of the back story on your fire fighting days, where you learned to run big excavating equipment, how you learned your forestry skills, general tool and wood working knowledge, etc. It's very impressive!

    • @84953
      @84953 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah, I missed that one. I'll add two things to that. First, oxygen bottles should not be stored anywhere near grease, oil, or fuel (gas or diesel). Your compressed gas tanks on a vehicle need to be secured in brackets. Most tanks like oxygen are filled to 2000 psi, and SCBA compressed air tanks I believe to 3000 psi. You break that valve off the tank, you'll launch a missile. Remember that the gas is coming out through a 1/4 " hole. Like I said, a missile.

      Nathan .Vanderslice it’s almost never pure oxygen. It’s compressed air like an air compressor in your garage. Not flammable.

    • @kalebjohnson750

      Josh T medical oxygen is pure oxygen. Scbas are compressed air

    • @josht8011
      @josht8011 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kaleb Johnson kinda what I was saying. Most people don’t run around with pure medical oxygen. Mostly bag valve masks and the like. An ambulance might have a tank but I doubt his personal fire truck has that. Kinda assumed it would be an air tank “scba”. At least that’s what we carry on our trucks.

    Just a thought Cody, how about parking the water tanker next to the shed and catching rainwater off that huge roof to fill it? Standard practice in Australia to catch as much rainwater as possible.

  • @RebelCowboySnB
    @RebelCowboySnB 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nicely built truck, right color too. Some of those old pumpers like that had a pto driven after the transition an not before.. Know which one it is before you need to use it. If it is after it can change gears randomly while pumping an spike the pressure. Those trucks you cant walk away from like the others. Someone has to always have their hand on the controls or someone could get hurt. Learned that the hard way many years ago. An that was a truck I had been running my whole career. I got complacent an took my hand off the controls. 3 seconds later 600+ pounds of men were launched across a parking lot.

    • @FiremanCH87
      @FiremanCH87 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's what the relief valve is for

    • @RebelCowboySnB
      @RebelCowboySnB 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On paper it is. Complacency though.... That is a valve you have to remember to set every time. In the rush to get water to my crew, I did not. I had men down hill from me spraying down in a hole. The person that pumped that truck last had it set high. It spiked from 75 to 300 at the truck. 100% my fault. But even if that valve had saved me/them, I should not have let it happen in the first place.

    On my volunteer fire department we have a 3000 gallon tender on a Peterbuilt chassis and it looks to be about half the size of that military unit. I would bet that tank holds 5-6 thousand gallons.

    So are you actually certified as a firefighter or did you just by some surplus toys?? 'Cause any real firefighter knows you DON'T carry your fire gear in the same compartment as the gas cans. That's just basic common sense...

  • @waynep343
    @waynep343 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    by the way.. this is a few years old.. were you able to fix the other truck water tank.. must prevent freezing.. setting up a thermostat switch that turns on at 32F and off a few degrees warmer.. you will also need a circulation pump that fix into the water tank so the slightly warmed water is circulated to avoid cold spots.. some tanks have a threaded drain or bung so a water heater element can be screwed in. again.. circulating pump and a thermostat as you don't need it above 32F. .
    that army water trailer is probably over 4000 gallons.. i don't know if the yellow rig has a pintle hook if so you could scrounge a 5th wheel dolly like is used for pulling double trailers to drag the big tank around if you have not been supplied a tractor to pull it..

    Those Draeger Panorama systems are the Cadillac of SCBA's. As a HAZMAT tech I've worked with MSA, Scott and Draeger and given the choice I'll take Draeger every time. You're fortunate. I would recommend you move the O2 bottle into a different compartment than your fuel. If that bottle leaks at all it will increase the oxygen in that compartment and therefore decrease the flash point of the fuel vapors. Something as simple as a spark from the latch on the door could ignite the right mixture. Also, not sure how well turnouts resist breakdown from the fuel vapors. Now I'm curious if they're suggested to be kept away from VOC's while in storage.

    • @stumblemonkey303
      @stumblemonkey303 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Correction. I used the wrong term. Flashpoint is not decreased, the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) would decrease. Apologies.

    Nice engine . I like old school pumps , same as you that is what I learned on . How many GPM for the pump ? I notice you stack your hose bed , we went to the flat/lay-down method , hose butts don't get hung up as much , at least that was what I was told . it's funny how some FD things are the same all over the country and some things are VERY regional . If you are not using the foam tank , can you pipe it over to the other water tank , give you a little more water . Just use a induction appliance for your foam . be safe brother , hope you never have to take it out of the barn ! LOL , bob k

On station we had a Scania with a Darley pump and an old International fitted with a Rosenbauer pump. Long since retired I think was the truck I believe was built in 1979.

    My truck at work has 4x4 and I am by no mean mudding or off roading, yet the truck still gets stuck all the time. Why... Because it's heavy, 20,000 pounds. This truck has to weigh three times that. 4x4 does not guarantee off road capabilities. Non the less sweet rig.

    • @fuegofyter4952
      @fuegofyter4952 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      GrizzlyBear Warrior In the USA we have made an effort to standardize specific terminology for our "resource typing" in order to avoid confusion. According to NIMS, NWCG fireline handbook, IRPG, , Firescope FOG manuals, etc.....a tanker is a fixed wing firefighting aircraft, they are then further classified into types based on capacity. I know they are often still used interchangeably with tenders in some areas but they really shouldn't be. If I order up a couple of tankers for my division or branch, it's gonna be a problem if two water tenders show up...

  • @timberjackthompson4602

    Your water tanker looks like the US Army M131A4C but you would have to look inside the door on the data plate. 5000 gal over blacktop and 3800 gal over dirt roads. Made for fuel but covered to water.

    The green brings back memories. Once upon a time was a volunteer in a mining town .Fire and Rescue for the town and mine site. First appliance in green in Western Australia .Isuzu forward cab (Turbo charged) with extended frame . Rosenbauer round the pump high pressure proportioning. Twin hose reels plus 4 x 2 1/2" outlets. Foam tank plus water.$ BA sets plus spares.Have a high respect for tree/bush fires, as much as wind swept spinnafex (sharp spined bush grass that burns very fast and when seed heads are still up ,fire runs like hot alcohol) . Great clips and thanks for the memories.Originally started with a 'Green Goddess" Bedford fire truck from England painted red . Timber built and the pump was as solid as they come. Now retired to Western Australian Fire Brigade Museum minus the brass bell which stayed in the station with a priviso it was handed to successive chiefs to look after. ref: /en.wikipidia/wiki/Auxiliary_Fire_Service . Great appliance and great times.
    Love all the other stuff you do with Mrs W and son. cool ideas.Keep it up as not many city kids would have a clue how to survive in the wild.

    That front axle says heavy duty. Thanks for the tour Cody, nice to have seeing how you live in the woods and fires do happen.

    I like that truck man!! Darley, waterous, or hale??? Shoot, at our vfd that's all we've known is the old analog gauges and valves. We were still using the old Scott donkey (u know what) air Paks up until the time I left almost 3 years ago. No question about it the stuff works and was made to last. Same with our old engines. We still have a 71 ford pumper in service. I'd like to look you up and tour your station sometime! We even had an old Chevy the electric pump engage switch went out and no one ever fixed it. we always had to use the levers underneath to engage the pump every time. Your videos are awesome man! Take care!!

      ryanburbridge No that is a loose plug! Did you not see the puddle under it! Maybe he over filled it,and just didn't wipe it off! But it sure looks like a lose plug

      Probably checked it, those don't put on many miles and many have the factory diffs which are filled well above the fill plug, so when you check them it spills everywheres. I had to remove a twisted PTO shaft, pump, and trans out of a forestry truck , all were the originals from 1986

    wranglerstar Am I wrong or did I just not notice, are there any forcible entry tools for a structure fore on your rig? I saw a halligan but axes, pike polls, large pry bars etc. Also, what sized hose is that in the hose bed on the passenger side of the truck? Just wonderung if it was structure or not. Otherwise, beutiful rig and a great video

    I knew it had to be either a deuce and a half or a GMC from seeing that leaky front axle, then when you said Allison transmission it just confirmed what I was thinking

    Bunker gear and ems gear should not be stored near gas, oil. For one it will ruin your seals on your o2 bottle and Also eat the rubber tubing. Fuel near bunker gear is obvious even though it is in its own gear, fumes can contaminate it and make it super flammable. Other then that, nice all around engine. Would love a video of the rescue tools.

    We have very similar signs for buses at my job. Every now and then someone yanks the air line, regulator, and concrete anchors off the wall.

      Sgt. Awesome From experience on my fire department I have seen 1 firefighter try to rope rescue a civilian and both ended up injured. That is probably why he doesn't or maybe his first due response area doesn't need rope rescue or its provided by a different department.

    Did the county provide the Fire equipment and you have to maintain and operate them or did you purchase the equipment for your own fire needs or neighbors. How does that work?

  • @lockedin60
    @lockedin60 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have a lot of respect for firefighters. My Dad worked for the Greensboro Fire Department for 30 years. Dad dealt will structure fires but you are dealing with the weather elements and that can pose a much greater challenge. Thank you for your service.
