On 9/11/2018 I rode the California Zephyr almost the entire length (from Martinez, CA.) I had a roomette all to myself. It was cozy, comfortable, private, and a "good choice." I can't imagine sharing this small room with another person...even though it had an overhead fold down bunk for a 2nd person to sleep. Overall...it was fun and I'm glad I had my own room!
My only little pet peeve with the Reno stop is it's pretty much unload/load. Would be nice if it were scheduled so there was a nice little layover. The station is right downtown, within walking distance to casinos, etc. Great video. Thank you!
Nice video!!! I like that feeling I get when I see my train coming around and there is a heritage unit or Dash 8 on it! That happened to me on my last day of my trip
nanajodi201 you’re correct. It’s better than the capital Corredor train. I love that train because you can put your feet up, and they give you those cheap pillows which I didn’t care for so I used one of mine. And, just like the airplane you can lay your seat back and fall asleep. Honestly, my grandmother and my brother hates that train because it takes so long. But as long as I had things of mine to entertain myself, there was no problem.
Darn RIGHT the Phase III Heritage Engines are better looking!!! Cheers!!! And writing a bit of time...uears...after this was taken and the View liner II baggage cars have been delivered in Phase III, well, I wish they would make up their mind already. Aka, wish they'd convert the entire fleet over to Phase III. However, we do indeed have quite serious problems on our hands now, circa 2019, under CEO Delta DICK. And I'm losing FRIENDS...that I've know for 30 years, who have entrusted themselves over to his leadership. Enough said!!!
I took that train on my way to Elko, Nevada in September. My first train ride. I should say those little toys at the parks do not count. As a kid I used to ride on boxcars, which is totally illegal and dangerous.
It was leading a business train in Virginia but hit a truck on the tracks it happened almost a year ago now it’s sitting in beech grove they haven’t started to fix it since they got enough P42s
Why can’t you actually show what being on the train is like? I don’t want to just be staring out the window. I want to see the inside of the cars and rooms, the bedrooms, the dining car. This was so boring!
Excellent, top-drawer...video!!! Thanks!!!
We're booked for Chicago to Sacramento in September. Even with the virus, we're still planning on it! Fingers crossed!
Awesome video ! 👍🏼

Isn't it the best when the train comes around the corner in Emeryville and you know your journey is about to begin?
It really is
I went from Los Angeles to Seattle and it was amazing. Don’t know where I want go next time

Nice! You're lucky to have gotten AMTK 145 and a P40DC on your train! The scenery on this route is just beautiful!!
AMTK 145 was involved in the 2018 Crozet, Virginia train crash!
AS Aviation I agree!
I'm riding the cardinal from Cincinnati to Chicago, and then the zephyr to Emeryville in a few days.

I have taken that train before. I rode the train from Oakland California all the way down to Los Angeles. It was pretty sweet.
Oakland to Los Angeles is the Coast Starlight, usually.

You don't get the views you got on the Vista Dome cars on the original California Zephyr.
How's that train ride? & you have Amtrak heretic 66
The ride is very nice. And heritage 66 is the one unit I have not seen. The one in this video is 145.
I took that train on my way to Elko, Nevada in September. My first train ride. I should say those little toys at the parks do not count. As a kid I used to ride on boxcars, which is totally illegal and dangerous.
Zeffers716 66 crashed and is ongoing repair
Late comment, but 66 is long-gone, it was totaled and is too damaged to undergo repair at the moment, it would cost too much money
66 is being rebuilt!!
Too bad 145 is damaged now
Meeper5 what happened to it?
It was leading a business train in Virginia but hit a truck on the tracks it happened almost a year ago now it’s sitting in beech grove they haven’t started to fix it since they got enough P42s
Meeper5 oh yes that was Republicans on it. They went to the retreat.
Looks Like DOTX 216 Car

In my last video I showed what it was like to ride the Amtrak train (inside and out!!) from Boston, Massachusetts to St. Louis, Missouri!!
