A Single Step. Part 10. Venture visits Idaho

  • Another Spoiler! This video is identical to "Venture to Idaho" already uploaded onto TH-cam. I don't intend to make a habit of this. In fact, with a couple of videos to go, this will be the last that is not a re-package of previously short segments. However, this trip up the Columbia and Snake rivers is unique and takes us well inland to places we never knew were accessible in a cruising boat.

    Gorgeous video of the most gorgeous part of the continental US - Pacific Northwest.
    And to think, only a few decades ago documentaries this good were only produced by the likes of National Geographic. Outstanding work! Considering the quality, FlemingYachts don't get even a small fraction of the fame they deserve

    I was stationed in Astoria between 2011 and 2016, and rode my motorcycle along the Columbia between there and Walla Walla Washington many times, on both the Washington and Oregon sides, while courting my wife (who lived in Walla Walla at the time). It was quite the trip down memory lane to see so many of the places I remember well from the saddle of a bike, just from the water's perspective! Early in the video, while filming the Astoria Sunday Market, I actually saw my wife walk through the shot!
    Great channel!

    THIS IS THE MOST WONDERFUL AND AMAZING TRAVEL DOCUMENTARY I HAVE EVER SEEN!. THANK YOU. - I watch all your Venture Boats trips (Aleutians, Alaska, British Columbia, Europe, Ireland, England, California, Idaho, New York). All videos are properly edited and perfectly presented. All landscapes, scenes, nature, blue sky, grey sky, deep blue sea make me feel so good. I enjoy watching all your videos (on my 72" flat screen TV - SONY) all time, every weekend from my home in Los Angeles. Even though I am not fortunate like you to circumnavigate the globe and travel on own boat, your sea journey and wonderful voyage videos have brought many delights and good feeling to me. Beautiful and relaxing video, as always. At 3:27, you mention the expedition of Lewis and Clark, which would not have been successful had it not been for the invaluable help received from the Native American tribes encountered throughout its journey, you point out.
    True, but as always in American comments about the history of the United States, the presence and help of french speaking Canadians is continually forgotten or ignored. However, the success of Lewis and Clark’s expedition was based primarily on the fact that it was French Canadians and French-speaking mixed-race who guided it from St-Louis to the Pacific, because they had known the territory for decades. Their names were Georges Drouillard, Toussaint Charbonneau, Pierre Cruzatte, François Labiche and Jean-Baptiste Lepage, to name but a few. Drouillard, in particular, played a leading role in the survival of the group, proving to be an outstanding hunter and the one who, by far, brought the most game to feed the hungry bellies of the explorers.
    I would like to correct this very important oversight of your audio comments.

    The NW is such a wonderful place to explore, I love living in Oregon. Upon first moving here I met a woman who informed me that Clark had a Slave named York who accompanied them across the continent. At that time Indians had no patience for white man but were curious about this big black man who it turns out was very entertaining. Why this is hidden in history is strange, took some research. I would say York led this group, because without him they would not have gone far. You can see York on the Astoria Tower and at the State Building Mural in Salem.

    • @FlemingYachts
      @FlemingYachts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We run at 9.5 to 10 knots.. There is almost no current above Bonneville there is very little current because the river between the dams is virtually a series of lakes. We took on fuel near Portland and had sufficient to make the return trip without taking on more. There is fuel available along the route.

      Thank you so very much! My wife and I are riveted to your series of videos. We absolutely love them. As a math geek, might I compare numbers. Running at 9.5 to 10 knots, I have you using somewhere around 13 gph with a cruising range around 1100 NM. Is that close to reality? This is why we are so impressed with the Fleming 65. Its passage capabilities both handling wise and fuel efficiency wise are unparalleled. Awesome boat! Safe Travels!

      If you're referring to the change in rainfall at a little past 16 minutes, that's due the rain shadow east of the Cascade Mountains. It's a geological effect seen in Oregon and Washington. It's very abrupt in both states.
      If you are referring to something else, my apologies, I misunderstood.
