- Winter arrived overnight in Alaska and transformed the scenery around us into a snowy wonderland. Although we were prepared, there is always more work to be done around the cabin.

Great video as usual gang ❤
When I was a kid our local chemist made Creosote cough mixture. It worked because after mum gave you a dose you dare not cough again otherwise she would would give you more. It was horrible tasting 😂
Yay🎉🎉 I've been waiting on this 2024 calendar!!! I'm so happy that you guys have bought and moved to the new cabin and loving it!
Amazing as usual! Still my favorite You Tubers! Another great video!
Getting one now!
OH hooray! I have been eagerly waiting. Thank you!
I know it sounds strange but I had a stroke 1 year ago. God blessed me to almost fully recover. I had no memory of who I was or where I was. The PT set a computer laptop in front of me. I could envision your beautiful site and I typed it in Though she said it took a long time but it worked !! Here I could not remember any thing but I could remember you. I then was able to type in others that I remembered during the coming weeks. You really helped me regain most of my memory. You make a big impact on people's lives.
That is very kind of you and we both wish you well :)
A retired Fireman gave us a woodstove hint that has saved us so much time and work and possibly a fall off our steep roof: He advised us to throw a large scoop ( we use an old cereal bowl full) of barn lime on top of red hot coals in your stove, about once a week or so. It reacts with the creosote and makes it flake off and our chimney is always clean and we haven't had to brush it in over 40 years. The flakes fall down the chimney and you just periodically clean them out. No brushing, no falls and NO CHIMNEY FIRES. We've never burned pine, which has a lot more creosote but I would think it would work on that as well. It's a very inexpensive safeguard. We love watching you two. You remind us of ourselves when we were younger.
My mom is 77 years young. She taught my daughter when she was eight years old what sun dogs were. To this day, my daughter, who just turned 27, will text grandma “SUNDOG” every time she see one. And my daughter gets a thrill out of teaching others to look for them and telling people that they mean a change in weather is coming. A MEMORY SHE WILL ALWAYS HAVE OF GRANDMA ❤️
Thank you young lady. Most of my fondest memories are of my Grandmother.
So sweet! ❤
My kids and I always look for them and are excited every time to find them.
First good snow seems to motivate a bit more? Did the stove draw and heat better after the clean out? Thankz for sharing!
What is a sun dog
@@slowethan1415 it is a rainbow that doesn't touch the ground
Home sick in bed and your comfy videos are just what I need
I just love when you include the date, sunrise, sunset and temperature information! Your photography is stunning. The season change seems so drastic.
Same! I like to read that info as well!
Eric better get busy filling the woodshed with dry wood. From the angle that I could see into your woodshed, I don't think you have enough in there to last until the end of November! I couldn't help but think that was some really nice logs you were tossing onto the burn pile. Rotten wood burns fast, doesn't last very long and it doesn't put out a great amount of heat, but it burns infinitely better than no wood at all in the middle of a raging snow storm! Can't wait to watch a video of you two just sitting back by the wood stove and just relaxing in your cozy cabin. Make a pot of coffee, warm your hands on a steaming cup and stare out of windows on a winter wonderland. BTW, if there was a contest to vote for the coolest cat on the internet, your cat would have my vote. He's kind of a cross between a house cat and a long haired bobcat that just allows us to live in his world because we know how to open a can of cat food and he doesn't!
My goodness, that scenery is breathtaking. You guys are so blessed to be happy in Alaska. Thanks for including us on your journey.
And I watch for the content, not for pictures and scenery… so I get frustrated and fast forward through all of it. 🤷♀️🙂
@@lindashively2530 slow down. The journey is beautiful. Blessings🌏🌎🌍💗
I always look forward to your videos love the scenery and love watching your journey. Thank you for sharing with us.
I miss read your opening line as
My Pokemon !
Im like, yep, there would definatley be lot of Pokemon in Alaska !
🤣🤣🤣🤣
To someone who ve never seen snow and changing seasons like fall , this seem magical
I've seen change many times and it never fails to seem magical (to me).
Yes it is, a transition, but always quite beautiful.
Snow is beautiful but definitely overrated and a hassle after awhile.
Magical is the perfect word to describe Winter. Snow quiets everything, so it's so peaceful. The nights are bright because the snow refracts the light of the moon, and the skies are so clear the stars are amazing. Out here in the countryside, we can look up see the Milky Way. I love it!
@@jaebee9308 wow. that sounds really amazing. I wish I get to experience all at some point. Out here we just have harsh summer and rain , winter is negligible
You guys should do an arctic entrance on the deck, keeping the cold wet out on the porch, before going in!! Save the floors -keep the cabin warmer ❤❤ if you have to relocate the stairs to make it work!!
I agree! Good Call👍🏻
I agree with the listing above, use your overhang to create a entryway. That will support your overhang and protect your door from the wind. That will cut down on the cold air rushing in.
Loved the washing machine with the ringer. I grew up with it and loved how you could customize the water levels and soap according to type of clothes. Do several rinses as needed. Wring out clothes folded then hang to dry. Even before perma press clothes they came out pretty wrinkle free and easy to fold. It was very satisfying. Todays units are efficient but impersonal. I enjoy watching your program and admire your creativity, tenacity and sense of adventure and humour.
I loved that too.
My Nan had one ❤️
The scenery is absolutely gorgeous.....God's artwork at his finiest!!!!
Your production values improves with each episode now. Lots of work; greatly appreciated. Stay warm being cool!
I live in Wisconsin and was glad to hear you had the calendar made there. Love the front cover. Looks like you'll be ready for the winter. It came fast up there. We have 50's and 60's here daytime and 40's and 30's at night. There's already been a hard freeze in northern Wisconsin, but not in my area, near Green Bay along the shores of Lake Michigan. The Lake keeps us (somewhat) warm in winter, cool in summer. Always enjoy your videos and how you both make the most of the land foraging, hunting and using the bountiful wood supply that the land provides. It's a joy to see you working together. Take care.
Cleaning up the woods around your place is always a good use of time. It can mean the difference between surviving fire season or being a victim of it.
Good Morning on this Tuesday morning. I am watching both of you on You Tube Channel on TV.
Your photography in this segment is spectacular. It is normally great, but it seems that this time the combination of drone footage and stills are balanced and very artistically put together. Great channel. Love your work.
Yes the colors are beautiful you have done so much this year on your new property I love it! Can't wait to see what you tackle next!!😊
Best Brushpile starter to use is half oil at diesel and a large tire so tire with decent wheel and set it in the middle of the fresh pile and add everything else on it just keep piling the pile wait till the snow is underground
It doesn’t matter how big or small your property is, there’s always something that needs doing. Keep warm guys
Just a thought guys, you said you plan on supporting the porch overhang, have you thought about a Arctic entrance? You could add one, that would really help support the roof at the same time! You 2 are a hard working team and get a lot accomplished, great job guys. Absolutely beautiful scenery in Alaska and always wanted to see it! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
Can't think of a better way to enjoy my first cup of Coffee.
The scenery is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.
Just beautiful. Why do I always feel like a kid in a candy store when your new video comes on? ❤
same!!!
Me too and im 70!
We are still weeks away from any snow and watching this makes me grateful. Haha.
I absolutely LOVE the reflective/meditative intros you guys have been doing on your videos. Thank you for sharing your beautiful scenery
I come through the new yes channel. All the best, I am Portuguese living in England for the last 25 yrs.
If you have a wood chipper you can use the chips for the chicken coop, then to mulch the garden. Of course a few more steps than just throwing on the burn pile, but so good for the garden to feed the soil and keep the weeds under control. So much work completed this week!
The cold is here!! Lol....crazy how fast it sneaks up on us.
It might be good to put an airlock on the cabin and the coop to keep some of the heat in when you open the front doors. I also watched some videos from nordic countries where they use that little room for other things like storing certain foods in the winter. Your place is charming and I love watching the seasons transition.
The drone photography in your opening segment was gorgeous. The wild geese on the pond also beautiful. I love your photographic selections. The cabin looks really nice with fresh oil.
Maybe you guys already do this, but I think it'd be wise to keep check lists for the months and seasons that you could refer to so that important things don't get overlooked. I love and look forward to your videos each week. Keep up the good work.
I have a feeling she is extremely organized. They know their seasons and what needs to be done. I've lived in Alaska and it's hard to be lazy and survive.
I hope you have the mountain of firewood you'll need for the winter! I used to live next to the Canadian border in the hills above the Okanogan valley. It's where they grow all the Wa. State apples. 40 years ago it used to get 20 degrees below 0! In the winter around Jan. There would be three or four feet of snow for four months. We could ski straight from our door! Telemark ski that is! I had a one horse open sleigh that I would hook up to my horse and go to the local general store and give visitors rides up the mountain in the moonlight. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Now I am living in Bali where it's 72 at night and 90 in the day. I love both places. You have to be prepared and strong to live in the snow country. So for now I'll enjoy my Mango juice and booze from the palm tree, by the ocean waves, and watch you enjoy the snow! Nice calendar too,
I,m so glad to see you have so many long time followers and all appreciate the time you take to let us share in your activities,I am 91 Now and still mobile but a virtual shut in. I look forward to your videos.
Already winter ❄️☃️ WOW
L♡ve the drone, nature footage and background music.... I could watch for hours... it's its own kind of meditation 🧘♀️ ❤😌
Been watching your videos off and on the past two years, binging the past three days (retired, resident of the Lower 48, living in Thailand). Watched the entire move process and relocation. We are really impressed with what you two accomplish from laying concrete, to electric, to plumping and construction, use of various power tools - you know no fear. You two are basically what most folk were back in 40's, 50's, etc. when there was NO money for contractors and families got together to build barns, homes, fix cars, etc.
Question: What could possibly have prepared you both for all you do, from bees to chickens, hunting, fishing, and all the home construction, WOW! Thanks for incredibly beautiful vistas.
I love your videos. Love seeing the boys and of course you guys. Eric’s comment about keeping the animals happy is one reason I love you guys so much! So seriously what are our chances of you all posting more often 😂.
lt' S beautiful !! and amazing adveture. Thank you for Sharing this wonderful vidéo ! Pozz svima ot sefer I marija. Francija
It's like visiting old friends
That aerial shot of your compound really showed how much you've developed the place. Happy to see you getting all snug for the winter.
Just a home in the beautiful wilderness. I think when people say "compound" takes away some of the beauty.
@@ryaneschweiler5179 i don't
@@ryaneschweiler5179I don't personally feel that the word compound is negative. To me, it means a place that is off-grid, self-contained and self-sufficient, with different buildings.
Wow you guys THE BEST INTRO EVER, The music is soo right with the increible images!!!!!!! Amazing intro!
It's a good time of year to clean-up the woods....no bugs! 😅 Always nice to tag along with all your projects.
Those ashes are good for the garden. It is also good that you are reducing the amount of fuel around your property. If there is ever a forest fire, you have a space around the property that will hopefully go down on the ground rather than blowing thru the canopy.
Autumn is the most hectic time of the year and with a house there is always things to do. We have got cold degrees again (3,5 this morning) and it seems they are here to stay. Also got a couple of snowfalls but the ground is still warm and it has not stayed. I need to prepare the garlic beds and clean the chicken coop for the winter and also have to take care of a lot of potatoes and leeks. Hopefully all will be done this week and then I can start to organize our daughters rooms, now adults, and making them into an office and a guestroom. One have to be painted so I will use that room to renovate some furniture during the winter. To many ideas, to little energy! Loved the sequence with kitty looking at her cat door, looking like "what the heck...this weather AGAIN!" 😄 Love the hen house and the tunnel, just perfect!
I love watching you guys. I’ve always wanted to go travel to Alaska.
I stayed up to watch this video! My, my, y’all never ever disappoint. I love the videography at the beginning and I’m captivated throughout. The chickens are thriving and kitty looking outside was so precious. Y’all think of every little detail- from oiling the outside of the cabin, cleaning the oven’s creosote, and managing forestry! You’re amazing. I really appreciate your work ethic and the love you have for our last great frontier. I can’t wait to order the calendar. Every time I look at it I’ll think about your beautiful Alaska adventure. You make Alaska come alive again in my memories and in my heart. Thank you both so much. Sending love and blessings ❤️🙏🏼
always love when a new video is posted. you truly relax my hectic life when i watch your videos. blood pressure totally goes down and so inspired by the lifestyle.
There was something so satisfying about watching the clothes being washed & put through the wringer!!! Well, actually it was all satisfying. Y'all are amazing. 🤩
Hello you two, what a beautiful place you got, very well rigged up for the winter, animals well taken cared of.All set for winter. That grate Eric installed is awesome.Have a great and safe day .Greetings from Canada
You should pour a small concrete pad for a laundry station. You could hang the clothes line over the pad to keep everything out of the mud, and make it large enough for the hoses and the washer etc. ❤
Very beautiful scenery 😊😊😊😊
Even small improvements can make a huge difference! Y'all always get so much accomplished in such a short amount of time, kudos to you both!!!🎉❤
My husband and I are in Fairbanks right now for our honeymoon and we're absolutely loving it! Such an amazing state with so many beautiful places!
When i was younger....i used to love playing in snow.Playing on my ATV....plowing our driveway with it.But now at 65.......I HATE WINTER.......SNOW....COLD.You have a great spread there.I just subbed and so far very enjoyable content. Thanks for your sharing.
Awesome episode as always! Michigan's cold weather is creeping in slowly. Thanks for sharing!
Don't batteries off gas
Congratulation!!!! Cheminey sweeping with a garbage bag, it is exactly the way I clean mine every year! Glad that I am not alone that thought about this trick that works very well!
Absolutely stunning photography. I love watching your channel.
Thx for sharing your life & chores as all interesting & beautiful scenery
Opening drone shots were breathtaking. I work in film & TV and your camera work is better than a lot of drone operators in the business! I bought my calendar and I’m ready for 2024-another reason this year can’t end soon enough.
Make that porch covered all the way out, that would be nice. Watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸🦅 No Snow Just Breeze !
Watching this Saturday 9:30 pm central, 62* F.
Great filming!
My house barely survived a creosote fire in a chimney. It is a very frightening experience. The chimney started to make the weirdest whoop whoop sounds as if it was breathing…and glowed red in spots. After that, the annual chimney sweeping was never forgotten!
I'm enjoying your home! I have a wood burner here in Omaha NE, and I found a way to clean the glass in minutes with water! No chemicals! You crumble up about half a page of newspaper, dip the paper in the water (don't soak it, just a quick dip), then dab the wet paper in the ashes from the wood burner. Doesn't take much so not too messy. Then you wipe the glass with the newspaper and the soot comes off in seconds, like magic! If it's really dirty it might take a few runs. I found it on a youtube video from England, but don't have the video now.
Amazing photography, great accomplishments & happy animals that are settled right in! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to everyone 🤗💕🇨🇦
What do Boy Scouts know about lighting a fire??? Everyone should have a blow-torch to start a fire! I love it!
I live in Texas but have ties to Alaska through some family friends that lived there. I spent 2 weeks there as a young man and loved it. I think your forestry management is fantastic, some people do not understand it and do not realize how healthy and beautiful you can make your forest. Arielle, I have commented before, your photography and cinematography are amazing! I love your channel and watching you homestead! Keep up the good work!
I am 44 and I still remember those washing machines. Speed Queen and White Westinghouse were the brands we had on my island of Curaçao 🇨🇼. We still have the bottom shell of the Speed Quueb
Greetings from Denali Park, Alaska! You guys are a HUGE reason why I finally made the decision to move to Alaska this past spring. I'm in love with your videos; from how you both appreciate the simple things in life, to your passion for the wilderness and self-sufficiency. Your channel has taught me to appreciate the beauty in everyday life. I was SO GIDDY when I noticed I was harvesting the same fall goodies (lingonberries, hawks wing, etc) as you both in one of your previous videos.
Great video as always, and happy shoveling!
When your burn 🔥 pile cools off shovel some of that white ash into a couple of 5 gallon buckets and add to garden soil next spring,,good for vegetables,,great for potatoes 🥔 😀
Another epic video...from breathtaking landscape shots, to daily life around the cabin, which I find so interesting... this video was super fun to watch...never wanted it to end. Love love love your channel! ❤❤❤
Another beautiful video from my favorite couple. Thank You for making my evening special.
Easiest Christmas gift of my life.
Excited to see that your new calendar is out. For the last couple of years, I have put the calendar in my office in the rehab hospital that I work at in northern Ontario, Canada. As an Occupational therapist, I see lots of clients/patients that see your calendar and always comment how beautiful the pictures are. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you guy's for another excellent video.
The grit foot mat is genius ideal, thank you guys for sharing your lifestyle in Alaska, you guys are awesome, always enjoying watching vlogs.
I had to laugh about the cat looking out the cat door. I couldn't see it's face but the position of it's ears showed that he wasn't to thrilled about that white stuff! I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing your adventures and life with me. (everyone)
There's just so many hours in a day to try and get everything done. You guys really capitalize on what time you have. The winter(ish) drone footage🛰 is spectacular👍🏻All the best to you Eric & Arielle .... take care 🚜🌲🔥🪵🔥🪵🔥🏡✌🏻
I haven't seen one of those types of washing machines since I was a child. 😂 I got my arm caught in the wringer one time, it's a good thing my mother was there to rescue me. I was just trying to help... 😅 I feel sorry for anyone that has use one of these machines... Brings back a flood of memories... Growing up on a farm, far from neighbors... Street lights, etc ... Y'all rock!!! ❤❤❤
pepper looking annoyed at the snow out the catdoor is so relateable
OH GOSH!! I remember as a kid, about 4 years old, getting my arm run through that roller on the washing machine. That would make it back in 1950. My biggest memory is the scream that came with the squashing of the arm. No damage done thought but I was sure scared.
I love your calendars!! They make great Christmas gifts, everyone. Your photographs are stunning. Thank you for taking the time to create this gorgeous collection of Alaska for everyone. 🥰
The arial views are fantastic…please do more…so nice to see such beauty that we’d never would get to see ourselves.
I admire your fortitude in the cold weather….as we get older it’s less appealing to us. No one can say living in Alaska is easy….I enjoy Modern Day Alaska videos also…..
If you attach a piece of rubber over your lock in the chicken coop it’d keep it from freezing….
Whoo Hoo! Ordered your calendar! We love these! Thanks for sharing a bit of your lives with us all! You and your pet menagerie are the best!!!!!! Stay warm!
Nice big burn pile like that, if you wait until the fire has burned down to a pile of hot coals, then douse them with water, instead of letting it burn to ash, you could make a lot of biochar for the garden. That would be an awesome video.
What a GREAT Job you guys have done!! Love the quick “fixes” with the grate and primitive cat box under the deck!! Nice Work!!!
a little tip. take a paper towel spray it 2 times with window cleaner then dip that into some cold gray fine ash that is in the fire box. try that to clean your glass.
How you guys are able to get calendars, videography, etc.,done and still film your daily adventures just blows my mind! Thank you so much! Watching the opening scenes brings down my stress level so quickly! So peaceful, so stunning! I never knew those little rainbow spots were called sun dogs! I have a new wrinkle in my brain! Love this channel! (Hint, hint, how about a coffee table book of your photographs?)
That would be a dream!! I don't know if I could make time for that 😄
I’d buy one!
That's very so cool to have!!😊
On the stove pipe, I have cleaned mine the same way- from the bottom- but it pushes a lot of creosote into the chimney cap. Went out there at night and the cap was glowing with embers of creosote. Always remove the chimney cap and clean from the top.
Thanks for the info!
You two are amazing! My favorite TH-camrs by far!!
The homestead is beautiful from the air. You have done sooo much!
I love to see you, Eric, using the Branson (your favorite toy). It's amazing how skillful you have become in a very short time!
What a team you two are!
Thank you for the wonderful videos. I feel like I am there with you! Love you both!❤️
A little baking soda paste and a damp coffee filter we works wonders to clean the glass on your woodburner door.
Thank You for sharing your piece of Alaska with us . We are so blessed to have you making this great content
You take awesome pictures love you both
A beautiful piece of work - your faming of shots and editing is so good now. Loved the simple fire time lapse work! You both put in so much effort, and I just want to say I appreciate your art!
Thank you very much!
My mother had one of those washers. Amazed to see they still exist. Lovely video
Alaska is truly beautiful and you guys show it off so well !!
WowI remember those old washing machines bring me back 😊

Beautiful intro again!! I like the idea of the grate in the deck. See you next video.
I just want to say thank you, my brother absolutely loved living in Alaska and he would send me postcards of the beautiful places he seen while living there. He moved back to Oklahoma in his early thirties when he was diagnosed with cancer to be closer to family unfortunately we lost him when he was 35. Everytime I watch your videos I'm in awe of the beautiful places and the pictures you take of nature and it warms my heart to think he saw the same types of breathtaking views and that is why he fell in love with living there. So thank you I feel like you have given me back a part of him. It will be 20 years in January that we lost him and I miss him dearly every day.
