There are a ton of amazing board games out there, and they don't all have to be beautiful. But some of them definitely still are. Rina and I go through 5 games each to talk about some of our favorite artwork in games we enjoy. Some old, some new, all beautiful.

I believe Scythe deserves a spot in this list. Gorgeous map and artwork on event cards.
I love to see Manny get shout outs. His art is just so so good! That is the reason I first checked out Dice Throne (which is now one of my all-time favs), and also backed Wonderland's War.

Such a fun video and excellent choices! I've only played and known of the gorgeous artwork of Everdell, Canvas and Parks. Now, I need to check out the rest.
Beautiful art draws me deep into a game. Since I play adventure games I like the feeling to live inside the world. It's an enjoyment to see you both presenting the games, how you interact with each other.
I like the Canvas, Golem and Parks picks. Those are all top art games for me. I would also include Abyss, Giants and Sagrada as some top choices
"I don't like actual art, I like board game art". That explains a lot 😆. You literally have one of the most beautiful board games ever made just behind you and it's not on your list. Though Brass and Parks are indeed beautiful.

Hi Alex. Another cool video. Like always. I had the chance to meet David and Lina ; Mr Cuddington, those responsible for the art behind BRASS, amazing people and big inspiration for our team. We also believe they are one of the best visual artist in the industry, recently, they have just finished Tidal Blades. Yeah, it's them too. :o
They also done Santorini, steampunk rally, charterstone and grimm forest

This list misses Kyle Ferrin, the illustrator behind ROOT, Oath, FORT and VAST. I really love his art style.
His stuff is gorgeous

I totally guessed your number one choice. I'm going to get it next pay period. Super excited!
Really feeling the pull of Parks for a game with my wife or a party of three. We have loved visiting national parks, so it might be the best choice. I know Cascadia is also pretty (and a highly-rated game), but it must not quite be in the class of these in this video.
Dice Throne (Manny Tremblay) is at the top of my list. Small World and Pillars of the Earth get honorable mentions. And Netrunner was in a special class of its own.
Everytime I watch a video with you and your wife I'm struck by how on point y'alls glasses game is. They are AMAZING
Tainted Grail and Etherfields - are you asleep again Alex ? Have bought sleeves specifically to protect all the cards and map tiles.
Trickerion, Hanamikoji, Everdell, Brass, Dice Throne, Lisboa, Pax Pamir 2e (more the components than just the art)...those are all ones that spring to mind. Also, Dice Throne is just lovely! Battle Yahtzee is fun 🙂
I highly recommend The Gallerist! It's great at 2 🙂
Nice segment... this my cup of tea... always focused on artwork. What is beautiful? Is with 'the eye of the beholder'.

It's probably the first reason I checked out the game, and it's probably the game I played the most these last two years. Love it !
Brass is really pretty as well. And well, Everdell is oviously a nobrainer in this category :)

Dude, I'm so with your wife on the back of the box thing. I go crazy if the back and front box art is not aligned. I still can't tell if my wife finds it annoying or amusing, but I imagine it's a combination of both.
I like the title and the content. As soon as see it I said one of choices would be Valaria card kingdom and Everdell. Cheerssss

Game are getting more bling and beautiful artwork today. I would add Wingspan ( over Everdell 🤣) Rococo - Trickerion/Anachrony - Abyss - Shem Phillips games, Ian O'Toole, Ryan Lauket...etc so so many beautiful games that pop on the table.
The Shem Philips games have the same artist as Valeria:Card Kingdoms.
I love playing with dice while talking too! So relatable
Fun video. Of the games that I own and enjoy playing, I would pick Empires of the North, Scythe and Santorini (and my daughter has Canvas which is also gorgeous.)
Love this idea since some time ago, being so overwhelmed w/ games I wanted, thought maybe I should get games just based on what art I liked the best. I sometimes still think that, and art definitely does play a factor.

No Oceans, No Evolution Climate, no Rococo. Everdell makes sense. I am also missing Inis on this list. I know you own and like the game and I know the box itself is a piece of art in and by itself. The same can be said from Climate and Oceans. The boxes of those games are stunning. Also no Lost Ruins of Arnak? I would argue that the art and immersion it creates plays a big part in its appeal.
Just remove this video and make a new one :P.

Great vid! Brass’ artwork is amazing! Not in a theme genre my gaming group likes (so always overlooked it), but amazing nonetheless! So impressed, stopped your video, and watched SUSD and NPI’s reviews on the game! As great a game it might be, it would just sit on my shelf ☹️😩😢😭
I’d be curious you two making a top 10 most common game mechanics from our top 10 or 20 favorite games, but weighted by how often that mechanic comes up in your top 10 list.
So , your #1 game may have powers and abilities (P&A) - if 4 games have P&A, P&A has a score of 4- if grading by frequency and not further weighted by rank. If 5 of your games have Polyominos, it ranks higher than P&A. If your #2 game is the only game with card drafting, card drafting might not even make the top 10 mechanics list, etc…
I think knowing your favorite mechanics help people choose games whether it’s to get more games with it or to recognize where mechanics-holes are in their collection then to find a game to fill that hole…
Brass artist is Mr. Cuddington of other Roxley and Druid City games like Grimm Forest! Also Gavin Brown worked on Dice Throne. Good Choices, I would have added Seasons, Tapestry, 51st State, Tang Garden, and Court of the Dead!
I really agree with a lot of the picks you both had. I must admit I am thinking strongly about the new Pandasaurus Game BREW. The arts is very eye catching and was wondering if you will be covering your thoughts even though it is a pre-sale and not a Kickstarter/GameFound title. Great video you two!! Cheers

As for me, Unmatched is just on another level. Each card is an art piece :D Second place goes to Tainted Grail, 3rd to Dice Throne(definitely with Adventures), 4th Root and 5th ISS Vanguard (Based on a art book :P)

I would totally put ROOT with various boards, cards, meeples...
The recent Glow (Lueur in French) has very very unique design but beautiful B&W drawings and lovely color touches (dice, icons). Even the dark back of the cards is amazing.
...As well as Kanban EV where Ian O'Toole did such a good job... Looks great even if purposely industrial.

Scythe, Wingspan, Honeybuzz, and Rising Sun all have great art. Everdell would have made my list for sure. I also like the art in Fort because it suits the feel of the game.
Wingspan & Photosynthesis both look pretty.

I think I'd have to include Inis and Etherfields somewhere in this list and maybe Empires of the Void or Sleeping Gods. Also like Vindication and looking forward to seeing Unsettled, Endless Winter, and ISS Vanguard.
I am glad Iwari was an honorable mention! I specifically bought that game because of the art.
Iwari isn't a game that would go over well with my gaming group but I really want to get it if only for the art, it is stunning.
I agree with Everdell being #1. I contemplated buying or not buying this game for months because Worker Placement was not one of my favorite types of boardgame. It was ultimately the artwork that did get me to buy it.
Can't wait for Mistwood and Newleaf. 🤩
The artists of the Roxley Brass games is Mr. Cuddington, a husband (David Forest) and wife (Lina Cossette) duo in Quebec.
Love their work.

Brass board is beautifull, but nothing compared to rising sun board!
We almost need to exclude Everdell from these types of lists because it’s to obvious and then we could get ten other games. At least you mentioned a few extra. I’m looking into that Valeria game.
This is what you get for watching "how to play" videos on games... Just learned that Canvas cards have protective films that can and are recommended to be removed :D And here I am having complained that some of the cards would have gotten ripped during shuffling, all the time it being the removable protective film that was ripped.... *hides in shame*

Everdell is by far the most beautiful games on the market in my opinion.
Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: What art there is, is stunning.
Okko Chronicles: Same artist as the source material.
Arkham Horror LCG: So much art and keeps the standard very high.
A Touch of Evil: Kinda cheating as is mostly photographs but really great.
Argonauts: The Medea card in particular is jaw-dropping.
Solomon Kane: Amazing vistas.
Dice Throne/Adventures is my wife's favorite game it gets a lot of play.

Some yes, some not. It was personal preference.
Nice choices - but I still can never decide whether I prefer full on art extravaganzas like Parks, or the minimalist simplicity of Yinsh.
That bit of extra effort made on the aesthetics of a game - doesn’t have to be extra deluxe components - makes a real difference for me in the buying decision.
Would have been nice to feature the actual artwork more clearly.

I was surprised not to see Adrian Smith on the list. I guess his art is not always exactly pretty, but it does definitely pull you in.
Abyss, Tidal Blades, Etherfields, Atlantis Rising 2e, Everdell, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Inis (cards) and Scythe.
As I was watching this, I was going through my game collection and thinking about what is the most beautiful game there. I have Parks and I agree that it is gorgeous, but I would still pick a small game called Strife: Legacy of the Eternals as my most beautiful game.
Does anyone know a game with similar art/theme with everdell?(everdell is just slightly out of my budget) I kinda want to go with fantasy, greens, trees, and nature

Woah! No Ian O'toole love. Do you think it's because you haven't played the Lacerda titles yet? His artwork is not only beautiful but very functional.

I know that feeling well that if it doesn't look pretty then I'm not likely buying it. Of course I'm assuming these games don't correlate to your overall top 10 games so there is a lesson I'm unwilling to learn here 😂
One game with excellent artwork that _noone even looks at while playing_ is *Gizmos* - everyone only looks at the action icon, the effect icon(s), the cost and the frame color. It's too bad because those gizmos are cool.
My list includes Kemet. The first edition I'm sure they made no money on as it's outrageously 80s Ameritrash piles of cards and miniatures over the top in production value.
I'm surprised you went with Valeria over a/multiple West Kingdom games.
I could pick any, Valeria is the series that made me fall in love with his art in the first place.

I prefer board games with artwork that is a little less juvenile. My favorites are a bunch of Ian OToole gems like Pipeline and Vinhos, and Lisboa.

Top ten board games with beautiful artwork FOR CHILDREN
Public forums attract all kinds of people. And when you invite comments you invite comments from a spectrum of people. Some are nice, some are mean. People WILL do things that are wrong. People WILL say mean things. People can be jerks. Troll will come into others spaces and harrass them. That is the unfortunate reality of being human.
I'm understanding more why you have the viewpoints you do ;)
@@BoardGameCo I'm not trolling. I mean I'm joking a little but consider the games on that list. And consider how many you can/do play with children. The list excludes more adult games and more adult artwork (maybe by coincidence).
Consider the weight and maturity of things like say Troyes or Bruges.
Both would easily be more beautiful than anything on your list. But ofcourse its appeal would be for the boring euro gamer as opposed to the family friendly one.
Even To a lesser degree, On Mars, Rococo Deluxe.. etc
I comment on alot of your videos and well before you had say, 3k subscribers. So to be considered ba troll coming into another's space to harass them is, well disingenuous.
Sometimes what I say is positive and supportive, and sometimes it's a little snarky.
