    My conure was a rescue . I've had him since February. He let's me pet him thru the cage bars mostly. Hopefully he will become more cuddly. He will preen me here and there. I've taught him how to forage, sit on my shoulder if I give him treats. He is so sweet. I hope some day he will cuddle into my neck but he's still a nervous little guy. I love him with all my heart ❤️

      Starting with through the cage bars is such a good way to begin allowing petting/contact. He likely will be!

    I just got a 3yo female who had her top beak completely bitten off by bigger bird when she was 7months old, she's malnourished so I'm feeding her pureed baby food bc she has struggled to just survive on seed!!! Incredible really that she did.

      Hey there,
      That’s such a harsh thing to happen to her :(
      It’s really good you’re helping her out! But one thing, I would not recommend the baby food.
      If you have to do that puree fresh veggies and proper nutritional boosting food. It may be worth talking to an avian vet on the topic!

    When green cheeks knock on the cage, is that hormonal? My two turkeys respond when I knock back; sometimes the exchange is reciprocated many times. I try to change the tempo with the knocking, but they give me the puzzled look.

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not sure I’d call it a hormonal behaviour per say. It’s normally excitement, territorial or overstimulated!

  • @elizabethwilliams746
    @elizabethwilliams746 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have 2 green cheeks (one cinnamon mutation, one 'high red') that are totally bonded with each other. They both display all these behaviors with me yet the high red cuddles and the cinnamon bites (my right arm looks horrible with all the scars from her bites)! The cinnamon will chat, beak grind, fluff up, even fall asleep sitting on me but will randomly lunge at my face or hand ( hand sitting still, not actively reaching) and I'm so confused! Have had experience with multiple breeds of birds as my mother was the owner of a sanctuary, never have I met a bird that bites like this!

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there,
      It’s not uncommon for conures to bite for lots of different reasons even when they are happy or even bonded to us!
      The solutions to biting usually come from working out why it’s happening and adjusting factors such as diet/ doing lots of training!
      I have lots of other videos that may be worth exploring!

  • @sethnaugle984

    My conure always flies onto my shoulder and does a belly crawl under my left jawline as soon as I get home and let them out of the cage but he never goes to under the right side and then he will cuddle for ten whole minutes until he gets his food fresh fruits and veggies.

    I got a conure from a lady. Hes 12 . He finally has warmed up I think . He will come up to the cage and talk to me and he will allow me to pet him but he’s a little nippy at first but when I pet him he sinks down on his perch and won’t step up so I guess he’s
    Not ready to do that with me ?

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s tough to read from your description. Conures can be nippy sometimes. But if he’s nipping when you go to pet him then he may be telling you “I’m not too comfortable with this yet”

    Hi! I love your videos and information. My green cheek conure’s enclosure is next to a window. Lately, a wild dove has been coming by the window and communicating vocally and by flying while chirping. I was wondering if you have any information about what this relationship might be. My bird seems to enjoy the interaction, but I’m unsure if it’s stressing him out. He gets excited, vocalizes, and pulls on his toys when the dove comes around. Any thoughts? Thank you!

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like he could be stressed by it! I know our flock don’t like the doves much.
      Some parrots will be ok with wild birds approaching and curious, most will be stressed by it!

    My conure sorta gives me love bites on my face when cuddled up❤ but he absolutely hates my husband and attacks him on a regular basis. Should I stop cuddles and just let him sit with his fellow conures to prevent those attacks?

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s two issues there! It’s ok to cuddle your conures a bit but I would discourage beaking as it can lead to biting.
      The attacks on your husband could be due to hormones, possessiveness or the little guy may just need more training and time with him!
      I have further videos that explore some of those topics!

    I love my conure and loves playing with him. l let him fly and enjoy outside and he learnt to come back home sometimes he come home the next morning. he is doing this for a year now. But last Friday afternoon he wants to go outside and a man with a dog saw him and kept following him. My bird disoriented and loss his way home around 8pm. So the next morning i tried to call my bird sadly no sign of him. I talked to man what place he followed my bird and what time. All information i got from him is enough that my bird is totally disoriented. Not even hundred meters away from home he tried to catch my bird 😢 i knew my pet is scared that is why he flew away. I have a 2-month-old pineapple conure, he/she is still on hand feed, and has all the happy signs but it screams every 1-2 seconds constantly till the time I don't put him back into the brooder. Even if the crop is full or half, the scream won't stop. Is it because he wants to have another bird with its surroundings? how to stop the constant scream. As long as its inside the box its all fine, the moment it feels im in the room the scream starts. I mean very playful n all but everything comes with this scream lol..is it okay to raise a single conure?

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s likely because it wants feeding and attention. They are flock animals so will cry out for other members of the flock or you if they consider you a provider.
      It’s a tough call. We always say that a bird is better off with another of its own species but it depends if you can accommodate that!
