    Did you get feedback if you were passed over for promotion?

    • @patluvsvettes
      @patluvsvettes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No, not any at all. Really questioning if I want to stay with my current employer much longer. I was passed over for promotion in favor of a guy who has been with the organization for one year (I've been there 7 1/2 years) and has ZERO experience in what I do (I have a degree in the field and 17 years of experience). Not sure what to do at this point, but going to give it some time and ask for a promotion/pay raise in 6 months. If I'm turned down then, I will be moving on.

      I had similar experiences as yours twice … when i was working for an Alaska owned moving co for 16 years and I was his right hand person in warehouse operations and when he retired , I was hoping that my 16 yrs experience would promote me to manager but I wasn’t and I was shocked that I was passed over to a guy that has been working with company for 2 yrs as manager so I didn’t say a word at all but to keep on working . I don’t work for them anymore anyway and am happy . I have a great role I have now at other moving company that I love doing and have been in moving business close to 30 years

    I have come to a realization that companies and the people who you work for do not care about your outstanding work ethic, years of experience or productivity. They rather have someone who is talkative, approachable and lacks productivity. Those who are good at what they do will be stuck doing just that. While the one who talks, joke around and do nothing gets promotions. That is why you have to just say F it and be that guy as well or you have to begin to think outside the box and be your own boss. Good luck to everyone.

    Don't quit, work for just a few months just to save some money for your bills..electricity, household bin disposals, and a few money to survive till you get another job,,, when you have put all these money aside, now use your weapon to disrupt the flow of work, take as much local leaves, sick leaves, holidays, get short training professional courses that you may use for another job. Then quit.

      Excellent point Tor! Having the right relationships and establishing an effective network of advocates is so essential to getting promoted - when you have a solid network of advocates you don't even need to apply the opportunity is created for you.
      Let me know if you're interested in video about building a network of advocates.

      Sometime it’s not always the case … management may have their favorite employee that they want to promote over an experienced ones and the experienced ones that are being passed over had to show the ropes to that new manager with no experience at all of how to do the job the right way in which I find disturbed and annoying at times

    I’m a consultant and have been on my account the longest. Managers are constantly praising me and requesting only I handle their projects, yet the other managers that I directly work for have passed me over for at least 3 promotions. This last time was the last straw. 5 mins after they send out an email stating the new team lead (someone inexperienced with a bad attitude) I got a call telling me I got another job, and it pays twice as much. Giving my notice on Friday!

    I got passed over because of my age, I wasn't given the news i found out by accident, it was all done behind my back, collegues were threatened with their job if they told me. They all thought i'd leave. I didn't, my manager couldn't look me in the eye, i wasn't pulled into the office for a chat/explanation, and i didn't go seek one or any feedback, there was no point as he would've just lied to me again.

      It's nice when you're on the benefiting side :) Sometimes there is more to the decision than the obvious... and sadly sometimes it's that the most qualified person wasn't doing the right things to land the promotion - which is where tip #5 really comes in.

    I have been passed over for 2 times, and i decided to move on to another opportunity after 7 months. I have tried to work with the new manager, but he is too new and not capable of handling issues and the subordinate. I am determine to do my best in the new position and make sure the last manager regret on his decision. I don't know what is coming in the new position, but it would be instead better than stay still without making any changes. Any encourage comments and words?
