One of the best daiwa reels made, super smooth and powerful . The duralumin gears are durable and very smooth, no need for brass here.

jacob I actually like the spool choice they used, but spools are an easy swap. There's no 7:1-ish brass gears available to swap in (at least for RH fisherman. For some reason, daiwa uses brass gears for certain ratios only in left hand models in the steez lineup 😏). This is touted as a 'tough' steez, it should have brass gears. If I had to guess, they used aluminum gears to save weight- it's only 0.2oz lighter than a zillion, and brass gears would've made it the same weight. (Not that anyone actually cares about 0.2oz in real world use, but in 2017 people/companies are into listed specs.
