honestly I always considered myself average but i guess you're right cause the amount of shorter people I see through the day pretty high. my 12 year old is already 5' 6" I'm hoping he passes he old d man lol
If you look closely and if you pause the video when Michelle Carter from USA threw the ball. You can see that the referee measured all wrong!!! And I think they did the same thing with Chinese girl.
I asked a few of my fellow throwers a possible reason for why there were no rotation based throws here- and almost all of us came up with similar things. Not only are all of these athletes big - they are also for the most part quite tall; their centers of gravity are very different. When I was throwing, I was all of 5'5" and 160 pounds - quite often the smallest putter in whatever field I was in. I found that with my lower center of gravity, rotation technique was a.) Something my body picked up and adapted to quickly and b.) It was much easier to keep the rotations nice and tight, which resulted in generating more power, while maintaining speed throughout the throw. For some reason, a lot of my taller colleagues found it harder to control their body through the speed rotations generate - more to account for, and a higher center of gravity. I used the O'Brien technique my first year throwing - at my height, it was actually harder for me; I had to generate more power just to get it up in the air at a good release angle; my taller colleagues by nature could conserve more of that power because they did not have the same worry. They could apply their advantages much better moving in a straight line, where I found it easier to compete (and maximize my advantages) with them by learning and using discus style rotations.
@DASO MILITIA that is not at all what the og comment meant. Smaller and shorter throwers have to start lower preferably doing the glide or spin to throw better. She wa just explaining her experience and why these women don’t have to rotate their bodies as much as smaller throwers. I know all of this since I’ve been throwing since 8th grade and I’m now a senior and I’m only 5’2. It’s definitely harder to throw at my height but it doesn’t mean I’m too small to play the sport effectively. There have been many times where I have thrown farther than bigger and taller girls during meets. Shorter throwers just have to work on their technique more and be able to use a lot of force when pushing off and turning without losing their momentum.
They measure at the beginning of the hole, not in the middle or the end. The put come in with speed so it doesn't leave a round hole but a rather an ovale one, because its speed makes it go a little bit further when creating the hole. So you have a "longer" oval shaped hole rather than a round hole. But the measurement is taken at the begining of that hole. That's why you think that they are mistaken.
@@JaneW45 it does look like it is well passed the line. Ya just gotta think a little deeper. That girl has thrown that ball a few times, pretty sure if they marker her that short she wouldn't turn and wave at the crowd. 😊
@daAnder71 my statement was referring to first impact of three shot. As an official I understand the criteria for the measurement of field events. So your comment is moot.
I rewatched that shot at 1130 everyone is talking about at .25 speed. It was a few inches reduced not 2 whole feet. It looks off because of the camera movement but the call was only slightly off
I was one of the best athelete in our school 😬 and shot put javelin throw and discuss throw is my sport and damn i miss playing during municipality competition 😪
Did anyone else see the spotters shorten the American' throw every time?? None of them were past 19, but it's pretty easy to see it landed beyond where they marked.
So I watched the men's shot put. And they do a spin before launching the shot. I'm not seeing that here. Is there something different between the men's and women's launching style?
Shameful how the german did a victory lap after clearly losing badly and Amazing how the Newzealander still threw strong and still did a great celebration as the real winner.
The German was on homegrown and threw a PB. Valerie had the win in the bag. She may have celebrated too early but i guess performing an all time best at home would make anyone excited
Why is that shameful? She knew that she wasn't going to win and still "threw" she didn't even try and you could clearly tell. It's still funny. She was having fun. And I'm pretty sure she retired after this
Am I the only one to notice the marking person is not doing exactly?? See for example clearly the USA woman had thrown extra distance but it was marked a lot inside.. i think in cms.

Yeah I have learnt this technique and its really improved my performance ....i was able to throw 10 metres . initially i was in 8 metres
Just watch again at 11:39 referee reduced the distance. Watch it again carefully.
same with 5:57?
Not only short but in the wrong spot to one side.
