    I work in the health field myself. No Healthcare worker should work over 17 hours at a time. That should be illegal. That's when something can go wrong and lawsuits etc etc. Healthcare system has to change in general. Overworking people and when something goes wrong then its a problem.

    I kinda laughed at the “120 day on call” comment, but even 120 hours of being on call is crazy. You are such a trooper and still find the energy to go to the gym after your long hours and still answering work messages. You’re awesome!

    Great video, you make the hospital look so much less scary. If I ever needed surgery, I would prefer a happy positive doctor over a grumpy one any day!

    Absolutely incredible. To think about all in time, energy, long hours sleepless nights etc just to have the knowledge and ability you and Drs. alike have is unreal. To have the knowledge of how to use machines, medicines, tools the list goes on and on is unfathomable. The schooling and staying up to date on all the current medicines and procedures as well as all the paperwork, phone call, emails is something else. I complain about my 8 hour day at work quite often. And you drive an SRT.

    The other was in OP registration where a mystery liquid dripped down on my lip 🤮 Then noodles (??) came pouring down (cafeteria was above). Thank God no patients were around!

    I am a bit confused about this 120-hour on-call situation. I know of the 80-hour work limit, yet you seem to have to come in on your days off too for the conference post call on top of all of this? How do you sleep on this 5 day 24 hour call? How do you study? Does only this program make you come in post 80 or is this pretty much the norm for general surgery residency??

    Found you on TikTok and as a fellow 3rd year gen surgery resident (in an European country) your videos have been really interesting to watch! I was wondering - during the time on call do you perform all the surgeries yourself (with or without an attending) or do you mainly assist? Do you have a set of rules as to which procedures a 3rd/4th/5th year can perform themselves? We don't even have robotic surgery here so that seems reallt advanced to me already 😄

    • @thedaisysanchez
      @thedaisysanchez  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! Honestly - it varies quite a bit from rotation to rotation. Some rotations we do more and others less. I definitely have done cases from start to finish but when the cases are more complex I am first assisting! There are no definitive rules but there are cases we have to have logged prior to completing residency!

    Hi Daisy, I have a question with you working all those hours is that healthy and is it safe being that you will performing surgery and you need well alert and rested. It reminds me when truck drivers would drive long period of time and not its against the law and that also goes for pilots. I wouldn't want any surgeon to operate on me without a good night rest. Isn't that a safety issue?

    I’m a PA and actually in my family med job (which I left last November) we had call as well. About 4 times a year. It would switch between PAs and NPs and the physicians would be on there only if we needed them. Otherwise we got all of the calls. This was a week straight, while we were working and those weeks we were on call we also worked half day Saturday so 5.5 work days plus 7 days of call. The call did not start until clinic was over so 5pm-7am was call. So stressful and I was bringing my laptop everywhere (including the gym). It was actual patients so we would have to call the patients back, figure out what’s going on, and then give them our advise, or prescribe meds, sometimes order labs if it was a Covid concern, etc.
    Now I’m looking to switch into gen surg.. and a job for a PA was just posted two days ago. Just hoping I get my new state licensing number before they find someone 😂 hoping this week. I started my application in April when we knew we were moving.
