I usually don't comment videos. I started Cubase and music composing with a DAW about 1 year ago and I've been watching plenty of tutorials. Most of them was by you and this one is the best. Wow ! Not only you master the technique, but you managed to give us the most of the artistic knowledge/passion you have... Many thanks. By the way, I agree with you : melody is underestimated. Also, nice work for this movie, now I'll have the lullaby in my head for days. Thanks again Dom.

This is a brilliant video, Dom. LOVED IT!!
Firstly, I thought the film was genius - much respect to Zennis for his conception and direction.
Secondly, I thought the story-telling you did with your music was powerful and really helped to lift the whole film. Two days, huh?! WOW!
Finally, I really appreciated and learned so much from the way you shared the creative process. It can be so easy to get sucked into the technical stuff but, at the end of the day, all the technical skills and tools are just enablers for our creative endeavours.
So, in response to your questions during the video, YES would absolutely love more videos like this. YES would absolutely love a video (or three!) on the art of crafting and using thematic melodies to drive the emotional direction of a score. YES you did a superb job - absolutely nailed it! Thanks, bro!!

Hi Dom, i just had to come back here and comment again!!!! You mentioned about your love of a good melody and how it can be the whole essence of a piece. Well, i am, at this very moment of adding this comment, listening on Spotify, to your album entitled "Film Collection" and i have to say that with a melody in mind, i am totally BLOWN AWAY by the opening piece "REVE NOIR" The melody in this piece is just mind blowing!!!!! It is fantastic!!!!!! It is so good that i have not got to the other tracks yet, i have been playing this track back to back!!! It is an awesome and i would love to get better to be able to produce this sort of piece. Thanks Dom for not only creating this but for sharing it with us mortals, in the hope of doing something like this ourselves? I think i better try to listen to the rest now!! Cheers Dom, you're the best !!

And rightly so, it lovely to have people enjoy your work, but nothing beats that moment when the crushing selfdoubt of life melts away and you know you did it right. Beautiful to see. This is absolutely awesome!!! What a great job you did with this composition. The way you develop those two simple but beautiful melodies just perfectly catch the essence of the images. And that's the hardest thing to do, expecially with a silent movie. It's so easy to overdo things when you have nothing more than the images to relay on. Those changes of colors, emotions, lights...lovely!!! And it's an incredible film too. Great direction and stunning photography. The actress, she is fenomenal!!! Thank you for this video Dom!!! We really need more of this, for sure!!! Greatings from Italy!!!! P.s. You can't imagine how much I regreat that I missed the prèmiere of this video!!!

Hi Dom, I really enjoyed the way you break it down for us in narrative to make us understand the parts of the film and composing music to it. I really enjoyed the musical score arrangement that perfectly captured the emotions of the on screen characters. and I would like to see more videos like this along with a music theory in scoring like keys, time signatures, harmonies etc that will help a lot for the beginners. Thank you for taking your time and sharing your knowledge with us :)

I resonated with what you said about melodies, lately when I get a brief, a creative director will tell me they are more concerned with interesting textures, and vibe, and not melody. I naturally gravitate toward creating a melody, so it's been a challenge, but if the trend goes back to melodies, I'll be very happy

    Great, dear Dom! Really!
You're right: seems that melody is no more interesting for the audience. Still, let me tell you that, as a piano player I was lucky enough to play the piano together with the great composer Umberto Bindi, who was a True Master in writing wonderful melodies. I learned a lot from him.
Instead, apparently even the Eurovision does no longer give importance to the melody. So it is. Will change, I'm sure.
Anyway THANK YOU one more time from a medical doctor, piano player and 32-year long Cubase user. Since it was still called "Pro-24"
I've been following you for some time and I'm always learning new (Cubase and not only) stuff from you!... ";^)
    Best,
    Marco

Thank you for opening your thought process to us. It's easy to see that you put an incredible amount of passion into this project, and how you did it 2 days is fantastic! I really enjoyed how you explained your use of the two themes, and how each was developed differently throughout the film to teach us the importance or repetition and embellishment to get us to the crucial point. I also liked and agreed that melody is the heart of a passionate piece, and I am not sure where the melody went these days either. Please make a post about this topic some day! It seems to be passé these days to write something that makes the viewer feel any emotion, but your composition evoked fond memories of Moricone and Felini films in which the interplay of music and the cinematic action wasn't just an afterthought - it was integral to the film. I don't think that many film compositions these days have the depth of understanding of the material like you took the time to do with this - it's more like "we have a deadline, so get something out the door!". What are your thoughts? I watch all your posts with the excitement that I will learn something very important in my music creation journey. Thank you!

Hey Dom! I am a film composer too! You did a great job explaining how we make this music. Still you'd better explain how to write those melodies with advanced harmony because it would be a bit hard for some people to make melodies like these especially if they are beginners. I also think the humming in the girl lullaby theme could be better... Still you did a great job and I'm glad the movie director chose you. If you made any other film compositions I'd love to listen to them and please make more videos on this topic!!!

Thank you so much my friend! Yes, I had to do everything in one night but still, in the context of the film it kind of worked. But we film composers tend to be perfectionists so I always felt that the melody deserved a real recording :) I will definitely do more- my album "The Film Collection" has quite a few tracks that I was allowed to release with permission from the production house ;)

Was surprised to see that notification today, originally subscribe to learn how to handle cubase, which i got mainly to make music for a movie director friend, so after all the DAW tutorial, this just arrived on perfect timing! Note taken on marker and tempo tracks ;) And really nice how you explain your composition at the service of the movie ( by the way, i totally agree on your melody comment...). Thank you 🙏

Dear Dom, I love your film score, it is very, VERY, Beautiful. You share your knowledge, your insights, and your heart, in a lovely way, such a lovely guy you are.
I have seen many of your helpful videos now, thank you for making them, great!
I have very poor eyesight so it would help me if you ZOOM IN on Cubase when you show us things, I know this IS MORE WORK in your video editor but I know it will help many people if you can do it, because it is difficult to see anyway.
(In this video I wanted to see how you setup your tempo track and your marker track)
Please keep doing what you do.... :-)

Hey Dom, great insight here! I’d love to know more about how you find your tempo and warp it throughout the scenes to keep the music right in the pocket with the picture. It’s Definitely a challenge that I face with my scoring

Great video, thank you very much!
It is very interesting to hear your train of thought for this composition. But please! Many more videos of the technical handling of the great Cubase to correct the beats and measures in which a new theme or melodic line should begin in the video. I work with Time Warp, but it takes many hours to learn how to handle those time changes in a varied composition. It would be very interesting if you could help to learn how to handle these "tricks", so that the music falls right where it needs to fall. Big hug! ❤👍
