  • Ramzan Kadyrov, the warlord leader of Chechnya, has mounted a machine gun on a Tesla Cybertruck, which he claims he plans to send to Russian forces fighting in Ukraine. Kadyrov shared a video on Saturday, where he is seen driving the vehicle, asserting that it was sent to him by "the strongest genius of our time," Elon Musk.
However, Musk later denied gifting the vehicle to Kadyrov. “Are you seriously so retarded that you think I donated a Cybertruck to a Russian general?” Musk responded on X, the social media platform he owns.
In the professionally produced video, a smiling Kadyrov is shown driving the Cybertruck through an empty square in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. He then exits the vehicle, positions himself behind the machine gun, and displays an ammunition belt around his neck.
“We received a Tesla Cybertruck from the respected Elon Musk. I was happy to test the new equipment and personally saw that there’s a reason it is called the ‘Cyberbeast,’” Kadyrov wrote on Telegram. He expressed his admiration for the vehicle, calling it “invulnerable,” “fast,” “comfortable,” and “maneuverable.”
Kadyrov announced that the Cybertruck would soon be deployed to the special military operation zone in Ukraine, using the Russian term for the invasion. He expressed confidence that the vehicle would be highly beneficial to Russian fighters.
Kadyrov also invited Musk to visit Grozny, promising to receive him as a "most dear guest."
Musk denied sending Kadyrov the vehicle, calling the story "yet another example of how much the legacy media lies."
Kadyrov has a controversial history, having been installed by Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia crushed Chechen separatist uprisings. He has been criticized for human rights violations, including torture and extrajudicial killings. In 2020, the US State Department sanctioned Kadyrov, citing "extensive credible information" of his involvement in gross human rights violations. The United Kingdom and European Union have also sanctioned him.
The Tesla Cybertruck, which runs on an electric battery, was unveiled by Musk in 2019 in Los Angeles. During the launch event, Musk famously asked a Tesla employee to throw a rock at the vehicle’s windows, which were touted as virtually “unbreakable.” Both windows shattered. The Cybertruck retails for around $90,000 in the United States.
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Musk provided Starlink satellite internet service to Ukraine, aiding its military operations by replacing damaged communication systems.
