I just bought a VOS Reissue ‘54 Gibson les Paul gold top custom shop w/ p90s. Gets here in a couple days. And this video was one of the ones that helped me pull the trigger. Great sound man!!!!

Overall how would you compare to a Special? Seems like more high end, deeper bass and more compression on the 54. Is it much brighter? More sustain?

I think it’s all pretty negligible..but yeah that’s about right.
But there’s variations within them all. So a specific guitar from one type may be bright or full figured.
But usually if they aren’t sounding as full or bright as I want I’ll use the amp EQ or the tone knob to make it right.
So…in a world where I couldn’t do any of that…yeah the observations you make are kinda typical.
To me it’s more of a feeling of gravitas, a seriousness about the instrument itself. Not a toy/beginners model but something quite fine and luxurious. More heft both in the form factor and tone.
But either way they all have a soft spot in my heart.
Here’s another vid with 3 juniors
      and a special…same amp

Sounds amazing. I have a gibson 50s goldtop but doesn't sound anything like that. Think it's the new pickups. Does that 54 have original vintage pickups? Thinking of getting lollar 50s wind p90, have no clue , but i want your sound!!!!

      100% vintage
Maybe it’s my amp or my hands/pick attack….either way thanks for the kind words!

@@jacksnax4guitar460 just watched your video, great playing and great tones. Then realised I already watched it a month ago and commented above. I switched my pickups to the lollars and put treble bleeds on. Now I'm enjoying all the great tones like you clearly did making this vid. 😊

Where did the upper frets go? We need a commission to investigate this.

    • @jacksnax4guitar460
      @jacksnax4guitar460  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think the frets were buzzing because the board was a rough warped so rather than mod the fret board (for collectibility sake) the frets were removed and are in the case.

@@jacksnax4guitar460 Oh. Aren't they kind of hard to play since they are in the case? And, how do you know which is the 21st and which is the 22nd fret?

Sick guitar! Just found your channel. Love it. Can you do a breakdown of the vocal melody line of fire on the mountain. You begin to play it in your b mixo intro lesson. Thanks!

So tell me why Gibson felt the need to invent the humbucker?
