The Damned DOn't Cry will forever be my most favourite Visage track. Glorious, Timeless with feelings of Longing, Romanticism, Sadness, Wonder, Mystery and Intense BEAUTY
Traveling with no destination No place to go Nameless towns with faceless people No place I know Time to close my mind and drift off To other scenes Lose myself in glossy pages Dull magazines Moments pass by, oh so slowly Makes me lonely too Twisting street light, in the darkness Makes me lonely too Ah The Damned Don't Cry No The Damned Don't Cry Climbing smoke climbs upward slowly Past my trembling face I see myself in rain soaked windows In a different place Single heartbeats in the dim light Makes me lonely too Hearing sounds of celebrations Makes me lonely too
It couldn't be truer, the damned don't cry, the damned are the best ones: the artists, the rebels, the introspective, the ones who suffer and think... And about the melody, it takes you to other places, just with a look at your face, RIP Steve Strange, melody composed by Ultravox. Heroes from the new romantics!
Oh My GOSH !!! I not heard this, Since the 1980s. Forgot how good it was. So Beautiful, Sureal, Robotic, Romantic, music , from. VIsage. Undeniably the best Song ever. Loveeeeee..............😀❤️🌠🌻
loved steve strange and visage since I was 10. This vid is great and you see him in action with plenty of lip gloss...yes I could see why this sort of performance would be better suited in Europe, ha ha ha...x
He had so many different looks in his time. This was a good one. Very underrated tune too. I’m not gay but he was a good looking dude and makeup suited him somehow. Shame his life was cut so short. RIP Mr Strange.
I miss the woman on the right, because she was my former charity shop manager and she moved to a different job in her hometown. Things had changed a lot during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It's so interesting to see how new wave/new romantic'ish performances were done in that era. Maybe it was a European thing, but performance art seemed to be prevalent for a bit in that genre and its related styles. The visual appeal is astonishing at times. Lady Gaga perhaps is the closest performance artist we have today ('cause Nicki Minaj and the others certainly are not, lol)...
the only thing lady gaga does is steal from Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons and leaders of NYC nightlife and gets supplied with expensive clothes. Bare minimum (if anything) is her while these people made and did everything bc they didn't have a lot of money to work with.

***** very true, though Madonna and Bowie are just as bad. But at least they and Lady G. brought interest to performance again; the others today bore me to tears...
L. Crosby García In America before MJ they don't care a lot about videos. My personal opinion is that even Michael Jackson' s Thriller in 1982 was influenced by the New Romantic scene... OK I don't mean musically...*:-)*

No, you are right. When MTV launched, they had to look to the Europeans (well, the Brits in particular) because those acts were the ones that had music videos, not the American ones; hence, this brought about the Second British Invasion in the States...
+L Crosby García Just saw this vid, and just now noticed that the other two people in the stylish suits wee women--duh! I like the fashion in this video, though. I came up in the '80's, so seeing weird stuff like this on, say, MTV, or any other channel that showed videos was the norm. I don't recall this group Visage---in fact, I don't think they were ever big in the U.S., unlike a lot of other New Wave groups, such as Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, and The Human League, who wee huge here. Too bad they weren't, because they probably could have blown up with the catchy "Fade To Grey" or this song--very typical of early '80s pop music.
She was steves girlfriend for a while, some countess, not sure of her name but her parents didn't like steve much as he wasn't blue blood even though he was incredibly famous at the time. She's mentioned a lot in his biography.
